The slots say shield tanker 6/7/5, but the stats say armor tanker, 50000 base armor vs 47500 base shield. Coupled with the fact Crystal Implants do not work with Capital Shield Boosters and I wonder if even a 5 slot armor tank with Slaves is better.
I'll ponder this some more, what do you think?
Note: Nidhoggur has equal base armor and shield with 5/6/5 slot arrangement.

I'd say it doesn't really matter, because
1. noone is going to build one - ever. I wonder if anybody was stupid enough to buy the bpo yet ;).
2. Motherships aren't frontline ships, so if a Hel actually exists, probably spawned out of an event, it will have a cloak or sit at a POS, and not bother doing much apart from assigning fighters and doing logistic work.
3. as soon as the first "how do I tank my HEL to do L4 MISSIONS against GURISTAS???" thread pops up I'm going to cancel my account anyway ;).

You put a faction/officer shield tank on it. It works really well. You could ofc put a sustainable dual capital armor repair system on it but I really, really don't think you will ever have to worry about loosing a mothership unless you are really negligant.

You could go either way this ship depending on what its trying to do. Capital shield tanks take an enourmous amount of cap and generally are pretty laggy in big battles. Dual armor repairers with officer hardners is fully capable of being sustainable on this ship if you dedicate mids to it.

The OP knows matari ships pretty well infact... but hasn't used a carrier or mothership. I have done both and have no problems answering someones question aimed at people who have used them. Have you used a mothership before? Its not so clear cut until you fly one and try to invent or unravel the uses they are good for.

How bout some reading on capital ships? There seems to be guides and .pdf documents to everything in EVE but capital ships.....or maybe I'm Ray --->

Yes, I do not know much about the practical fittings for a Capital ship. This was a question of...pre planning more than anything.

aye - because there are so many experienced HEL pilot (and mothership pilot) out there... sheesh... isn't there a sticky for some 'tower shield pyramid HEL [experimental]' design even that is like 2 years old...
