Edited by: Taurequis on 24/07/2006 16:10:16 Hi,
I tried to grab a response from another post mentioning EVE Mobiles but it dropped off the front page before it got picked up.
My Mobile contract is up and Orange keep bugging me to give me a new phone. I'm planning on playing my usual "i'm going to quit if you don't give me X new model for free" line.
So my questions are...
- What is the release date (hopefully) on EVE Mobile
- What will be the spec requirements on Mobiles to run it?
- What current mobile models are able too run EVE Mobile (peeps at the E3 show may know)?
- Is there any plans to have Mobile Phone companies tie in their package options for EVE Gamers (ie set price cheap data rates to access EVE Mobile)?
I don't get another free upgrade for another year so I'd rather get this sorted now.
I WANT TO PLAY EVE AT WORK!!!!
Best Regards,
Taurequis

My understanding was that eve mobile wasn't actually for a phone... but rather a PDA.

You could go for the SPV M5000 like i have, currently the best phone/pda combo out. And the specs beat all pda's i know of.
So the 520mhz cpu should handle anythign u could throw at it and 640 x 480 screen res is very pretty, making browing the net a pleasure to surf , and eve mobile should definately work on it.
now for the downside, its a lil on the heavy side as a phone :( but with wireless even built in u could sit at work and not even have to use gprs , but connect to the wireless lan of ur company etc, i know ebil, but what can i say
btw CCP WEN THE F**K IS THE MOBILE VERION COMING OUT GODDAMMIT

Wa-wa-WAIT A SECOND!
Is there a mobile version planned? Will this mean I can use my PDA for more than RSS feeds and ebooks?
Tell me more!

There is not a full EVE client coming for mobile phones, but instead an "EVE Lite" client for Windows Mobile 5 Devices. Here's the latest details from Oveur's E3 Dev Blog. (Emphasis mine.)

EVE Classic, EVE Vista, EVE Mobile?
Yes, that's right. A client strategy is being molded, where we will be able to have different interfaces to the universe of EVE. "EVE Mobile" is probably a misnomer for the client shown at E3. "EVE Lite" would perhaps be more appropriate, since the E3 client is only a PDA client, for Windows Mobile 5 and has nothing to do with mobile phones.
EVE Lite is our way of providing a simplified client with a core set of functionality which does not necessarily require a 3D interface to use. Think EVE mail, Chat, Market, Assets, upcoming Contracts, Corporation Management and so forth. You'll be able to do a lot of things without having to have a laptop.
The reason we started with Windows Mobile 5 as a platform is because it was very similar to what we do inhouse, it's quite easy to work with and Microsoft helps us out a lot. However, the server-side groundwork opens up possibilities for other clients to be written.
Which ones? I don't know. Personally, I'd like to be able to check my contracts and train a skill on my Xbox 360 between playing Oblivion and PGR. Or on my smartphone. My PSP? DS? At work on my EVE Lite PC client? ("Uhm, this is the newest MSN messenger ... it has a market ... and stuff ..."). Let your imagination go wild. I know mine is. I'm thinking voice chat with my Directors in-game via my EVE PC Lite. :)

You need a WinMob 5 thingy. You have to wait. It is meant maybe for accessing the chat and market and maybe your skills ... If you're lucky you can activate clone-jumping. --*=*=*--

So...
I've been fishing about on the microsoft site for mobiles that run windows mobile 5.0.
I've found two types -
Smartphones Pocket PC Phones
Most seem to run Windows Mobile 5.0 some seem to run Windows Mobile 2003 second edition. Is the 2003 second edition the newer software?

I seriously considered the Orange mini-PDA's (SPV1000, SPV5000) as I currently own a SPV C500, but the size of them is a little unweildly.
The serious alternative is to make sure your phone supports bluetooth. Get the cheapest phone you can find, but bluetooth is fairly important.
Then, get a PDA which supports bluetooth (hell, if your office has WiFi, get a PDA that uses that instead). Then use your mobile as a modem for the PDA. A word of warning though, you will _seriously_ chew through your monthly data allowance. Cost me a tenner last time I changed skills via my mobile.
PDA software. I have to recommend the excellent UltraVNC for your PC, and whatever the equivalent is for your PDA. Windows CS 2005 has various clones, so it shouldn't be an issue. I imagine anything of a decent spec these days will run Eve Mobile.

Hi,
I'm really not wanting the PDA option. Phone/Camera/EVE play would be what i want it to do....
I thought i heard a thing on the news back about Nokia tieing in with Microsoft to make new phone ranges.
Anyone know anything about their new models? I could delay my new phone contract blag for a bit if there are some tastey models coming out.
I'm looking at the SPV stuff now....

Hi again,
Found these which look hopeful so far....
SPV C600
SPV M5000
SPV M600
Now the M600 seems to be the bomb....Wi-Fi would mean no silly data transfer charges...
I'll keep researching before I try the blag...

They had HL2 running on it, so I don't see why Eve wouldn't.
My SPV C500 run's VNC, and have barely managed to change skills via that. I seriously considered the SPV M600 before I went down the PDA route instead.

Wow nice I googled up the HL2 video as well as one of someone running WoW on one. Have to think though that a tablet pc or some sort would be better than an Origami pc. I don't plan on doing it anytime soon but I think my next 'laptop' though will probably be a mac book with bootcamp. I dig the small laptops but I like my power and I'm not a tiny guy anyway so lugging around a normal sized laptop isn't an issue for me.
This is not to say however that Eve lite running on PDA's and cellphones would not be hot. Being able to whip out a PDA and swap skills anywhere would be sweet (more so for those short skills and maybe some trading).

Edited by: Nightly on 25/07/2006 17:55:04 Try the M5000 which is (I beleive) the Orange version of the HTC Universal (or Jasjar). It's a Windows Mobile 2005 device and has outlook, voice commander etc on it - handles all my multiple emails really well. You need a bluetooth headset for it though (it's quite bulky and you would look a real ***** holding it to your ear to make a call). I use a cheapo ú10 BT headset (btw-5018) which seems to work fine.
Actually the ickle thing is my first PDA and I have become really attahed to it - I can sync it to outlook at home and now keep all my appointments in it. How did I ever do without one?
And most of all.... when Eve Mobile arrives I think it will be for Windows Mobile OS initially, so it's perfect
EDIT: It has a camera too. I notice you said you don't like it but I know you will fall in love with it if you read some reviews

Yeah the M500 looks good but the contract looks the poorest from the lot and remember i'm going for a "i'm going to leave your if you dont give me this phone" blag...
I especially like the screen size.
I'll check the phone shops and see if they have a model i can take a look at.
Anyone know of any non Orange phones from the makes i've mentioned that run the windows OS?

I was looking at the M3100 after a colleague mentioned they weren't on Orange and wanted one.
Can you let me know how you get on? I like the idea of wireless, but I know I'll put a key or something through the screen.

I have an M600 with a 1GB card. It's a nice phone and not too massive/heavy. It's still slightly larger than the C500/C600 range but then there is so much more functionality.
I do hope EvE lite runs on it :)
