Edited by: Prometheus Wrong on 24/07/2006 19:16:16 Rather than make it something that renders a ship unable to target (which is just obnoxious, and overpowered), why not make Electronic Warfare something more comprehesive than simply blasting a ship's sensors enough to keep them from locking? Ewar could include bits like wireless network intrusion attempts; viruses and such that cause debilitating ship effects like cap recharge reduction, reduced speed, decreased agility, modules going offline, or simply becomming unresponsive (flash orange, maybe?) lowered shield/armor resistences, temporary loss of warp capability...it could cause certain systems to overload and expload doing some ammount of damage direct to structure, or cause certain systems to misbehave and leak emmisions that increase effective sig radius. Change "sensor strength" to "EWar resistence," and relate the severity and number of these effects to the difference between EW intensity and the EW resistence of the target ship.
EW as it is now is something few are happy with; there are a variety of more interesting possibilities out there.

despite this being the least-thought-out idea I have ever seen I can't help but like it. Parts of it atleast... I'd like to see more thought put into this.
PS: you are talking about ECM, right?

I can't wait for this to go through. Gonna make a full on hacker character. I'll rollerblade to work and brag about how I hacked the Gibson.

I love the idea behind this although the explanation of the idea require a little work... maybe if the moduals you selected for EW had set effects so you could chose to disable drone control (only an example, stop panicing Gallente) but your skill would be a factor with no real assurance it would work or for how long....
... nah, sucky idea. I see why you didnt try and work it out more. Nice idea, a real pain to try and implement

You wanted me to spell it all out for you? You want math? <grins> What if I did come up with a whole system? The Devs probably wouldn't use it. ;) I'm just trying to get across a general idea for a different direction to go with EW. More of that ought to involve disrupting computer systems which control various parts of the ship.
Having numerous potential combinations of effects (Just some of which occured to me in the original post -- they're not neccesarily all good ideas) on various sub systems would be a lot more interesting than simply making your target unable to lock anything. You could even go so far as to have each race be more susceptible to certain kinds of intrusion due to their Racial ECM module "package" being designed to go after systems more important to them.
Perhaps have the "primary" effect of ECM be the disabling (again, have certain modules flash orange) of mods. A character with reasonably high skills in non-speced ECM BS using a multispec-ECM on another BS would, with each cycle, have a chance to to temporarily disable, 1, at most 2 "active" type mods (ones that can be clicked on to do stuff) and cause a couple of other minor secondary effects. A highly specialized character in an ECM boat (rook) with racial specced ECMs might be able to shut down half or better an oposing ships mods, with several other secondary effects of varrying sevarity. To keep things from being too retarded, severly nerf stacked ECM effects such that a ship is never entirely out of the fight.
Each cycle, the systems affected would change in a random fashion so that, say, the target ship would not be completely unable to use his webber or repper (primary effect), or suffer from degraded cap recharge (secondary effect) for an entire fight.

I was hoping for a Matrix: Online reference. Set me up and then let me down. --------- Want to purchase a T2 Ice Mining Barge, the Mackinaw? Contact me ingame via EVEmail or check out the Heimatar market. |
