Hello all,
Im starting an Amarr character geared mainly towards pvp. Probably dabbling in the art of piracy
Im gonna start by specializing in small lasers for frigs and inties. My question is do i wanna lean towards Beam or pulse? Im NOT new to the game, but i have never played with lasers so i assume they are something similar to say (for example) Hybrid and blasters???
Could somebody give me a breakdown, also perhaps a little advise on what i should concentrate on for an amarr pvp oriented toon.
Im spending the next 2 months working on the learning skills before i even start anything else.

I just started playing, but everything I've read thusfar leads me to believe that beam lasers are better for PvE while pulse are more PvP oriented.

Edited by: Benjamin Olson on 24/07/2006 20:18:14 Yeah, beams are better for PvE (against the computer) and Pulses are the damage dealing close range weapons. Heres a fairly inexpensive fix for PvP that im testing.
Get and Omen (about 4mil) and train/buy T2 Focused Medium Pulse Lasers. It deals a fair amount of damage and the cruiser itself doesnt take long to get. The guns on the other hand will take a few weeks.
And if your Amarr then youll want to train Mechanic skills and skills youll need to use an armor tank. (Like armor repairers and resistance hardeners.)
After youve got A T2 fitted Omen and good armor tanking skills youll be set for pvp. Once your done with that just move up the line to Battlecruisers and Battleships.

Pulse lasers do more DPS(Damage Per Second) but beams have more range, it's not a simple choice but for solo pvp pulse lasers are better.
Amarr are basically medium-range fighters with either high damage or high tanking, rarely both. Amarr are vulnerable to NOS and electronic warfare.
As an amarr character you will need good gunnery skills... that should be your primary focus. Also having good spaceship command, engineering and mechanic skills help with cap usage and tanking on most amarr ships.
Just don't, whatever you do, listen to flavour of the month whiners that tell you to scrap amarr and train caldari... they are evil

Well I favor pulse in a big way but my wife seriously favors Beams. Be warned that if you have friends that are starting to play at the same time that they may seem to be better than you for a while... Amarr ships take quite a few skill points before they start to shine.
Beam lasers work well for long range setups, pulse work well for those times you have speed on your side. You will need both eventualy but I would vote for pulse first.
thats just my opinion tho
Boost Amarr or nerf the rest, give us this 'balance' that you keep talking about. |

Another route you might want to consider is the arbi -> curse/pilgrim one. Basically a nosdomi in cruiser size. Especially the pilgrim is one of the best solo pirating ships. If you want to go that route you'll need to focus on your drone instead gunenry skills.

Another vote for that route - its great :)
If you're just starting out the ship you want is the Punisher. Very tough very versatile frigate. ---- EVE-Central.com - Cross-region market view and trade finder |

Well, you don't have to choose when training T1 weapons - and for PvE you'll likely find beams are better.
But when it comes to PvP and especially T2, you'll find pulses excel.
For pure DPS pulses with conflag crystals are nice.
For a compromise between damage, tracking and range (and nice fitting) pulses and scorch are nice.
I only use beams for PvP if it was a sniper geddon fit, and then it's Tachyons and aurora.

Also, the cap affecting enegeering skills are important.
