This is inspired by a reply in another thread I read, and here goes.
Why do ships rotate around a central point rather than from the thruster's point of exit? It doesn't make any sense. The ships turn so funny that it's very bothersome and looks odd. Why can't we fix this? Large battleships and such slow-moving ships would look so awe-inspiring if they had a correct turn axis. Megathrons should not be able to turn on a dime.

i agree, but that would mean they turn slower and thats kinda a nerf to bigger ships. But it does sometimes look very funny

Because its easier to deal with objects where their pivot point is centered in the model
And its realistic too. Just imagine your ship has small movement thrusters scattered all about it. You just can't see them. ---- EVE-Central.com - Cross-region market view and trade finder |

Because, presumably, they're turning using auxillary turning thrusters mounted on the fore and aft of the ship, not by use of the primary thrusters- just like the space shuttle. -----------------------------------------------------------

Presumably is not accurate enough. I want to see little thrusters poofing out of the ship in the correct spots.

Fighters have those.
Remember that most of what we see was doen very long ago, and is very impressive from that point of reference, and only begins to look dated today when compared with modern graphics.
After the big graphics engine update we might see eve making headlines over her graphics once more.

They have them on sentry drones, I don't see why not battleships. --------

No real point in asking for realism, not going to happen. Much of what demands realism requires a reasonable physics model. And trust me, being a physicist myself, that won't happen.. CCP would lose 50% of their subscribers within 3 months. -Cammulos was here. |

forget the megathron turning odd ever see a Raven turning?
the axis isnt even on the center of the ship its a little bit towards the right, because of those arms
if anything realistic physics and the palcement of the engines should shift that axis even further to the left --------------------- Carebear, Until i get my missile skill training done |

I agree with the sentiments of the original post. Ship movement seriously needs looking into, and have been saying this for a long time.

I never really notice a problem normally as I potter about in slow things but when I jump in my 7 X nano typhoon I cry, it looks horrible as it turns.
