Hello all, I travel for work sometimes and want to get a cheap laptop for the weeks I'm away. I'm trying to spend as little as possible but maybe up to $300. I understand I won't have the highest graphics but that's okay. I'll be only using one client as mos likely it will melt with more than that!
So my question is - would an integrated Intel chipset be okay for what intending it for? I did find some with a discrete card in m Yves price range but I don't know about them |

at that price range, you are looking at refurbished or the lowest end you can get.

Average price range for a "standard" business laptop is about $850 with a bulk discount. |

If you can find a model with Intel HD 4000 integrated graphics it should work fine, but of course it depends on the processor specs too. All current generation Intel i-series processors should be equipped with it.
I'm pretty sure Core 2 Duo is old old tech. I wouldn't expect great results though you might be able to run on the lowest settings. |

My desktop is a core 2quad and can run two clients on low lol. What about discrete cards? Are they better? Remember this isn't my primary it's just to get myve |

My laptop is 3 years old, has a quad core intel i3 with integrated graphics and it runs eve ok with graphics at low-medium (Except for an occasional crashing when i jump a gate). "Your security status has been lowered." - Hell yeah it was! |

I have a 2007 Macbook Pro with integrated graphics. It can run several clients.

Eve runs on my 8" tablet (albeit 30fps with all low settings) so just about anything will do for temporary use :D |

Per Wikipedia: "Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT with 128 MB or 256 MB of GDDR3 SDRAM"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacBook_Pro#First_generation It's the mid-2007 model.
Seriously, EVE is an easy game to run in all aspects (People have gotten it working on dial-up, since the bandwidth requirements are so small). "It's easy to speak for the silent majority. So in theory I can check the graphics card and make sure it can run the right DX and call it good? |

You can get EVE to work by only spending $75. I have IBM lappy, Intel Centrino Duo with ATI graphics. Manages pretty well on the lowest graphics settings (just don't do any small fleet PVP roams) Elite PVP - The use of huge blobs, capital ships, and metagaming to defeat a target you already significantly outnumbered. -masternerdguy |

decent advice here, eve isnt taxing at low settings.
If you plan on using a non discrete graphics option, you certainly want to go with something HD3000 or higher, HD4000 is a better bet.
The core 2 chips in some regards are still decent processors, one of my desktops at home still run the old powerhouse QX9650 (775 master race:] )
unfortunately the on-chip graphics with these processors is the old Intel GMA stuff, which rarely has the power to push a 3d environment, without a discrete vid card. Tell you what I do like though: A killer. A dyed-in-the-wool killer. Cold-blooded, clean, methodical and thorough.
