This message is mainly directed at OP. I am not leaving this thread yet (at least another 10 minutes). No you cannot agree to disagree.
Every now and then you hear the Doomsayers saying "shiptoasting is dying". Shiptoasting is not dying, it has been growing in quantity, but I fear for it's future. I have been reading the forums since 2006 or so and one thing is for sure, shiptoasting is not the same game it used to be. I recently started following the mmorpg.com EVE forums more in depth and even got a basic account package; it's everything I wanted the EVE forums to be.
I started reading this thread five minutes ago. I came across this thread by searching for 'eve is dying' and 'will kill eve', and this thread was the only thread which was somewhat what I was looking for. This is not to say I don't like this thread, but there are just so many problems with it.
1. Lock and F1 works fine in 99% of cases so this is obviously not an issue 2. The server racks are bolted to the floor, so despite being a bit topheavy, balance has never been an issue for EVE 3. How can something be good and disgusting that doesn't even make any sense 4. "EVE is static". A second ago EVE wasn't the same game it used to be. 5. Your mother is old, that doesn't mean you put her down and find a new one. 6. "Void in the space genre". Ha ha, I get it. 7. Six items is not "so many problems".
Defending EVE can be fun, but for the most part all it is is one liner responses to mindless posts. There is a lot of skillful posting out there I have seen, but there is more of mindless nonsense. This is undeniably dull.
The most obvious problems in this thread are the content and grammar. There are entire books on this so I won't even name a few.
I think the second problem with this thread is this paragraph. The OP may be one of the smartest people out there, but counting is not his strong suit. If you name six problems, a further one problem is not the second. I can guarantee without editing this post that none of the first reponses spotted this. There is just a culture of generalising, without even reading the OP in detail (not to be confused with non-consensual walls-of-text). This is actually good and efficient for the community because every thread like this is the same anyway.
Being confused, you are talking about procedural generation for missions, to make the game less static. However, EVE has quite possibly the most free, meaningful and consequential interaction between players in any MMOG. If you actually want dynamic content, there is no substiture for other human beings. So it sounds like you are actually looking for a dynamic single player game.
EVE is old. Players have been able to accumulate more wealth than you. Players have done everything before you: taking sov, losing it, ganking, lowsec, militia, everything. Thus you think something is wrong with the game because you are not the richest and first in everything. Again, you are looking for a single player game. This also somehow has something to do with the code being ancient, which it isn't necessarily because it is constantly being worked on, and how it is getting more inefficient, as if code becomes old and forgetful and has its hair turn white as it ages. None of this has anything to do with anything or makes any sense. Honestly, I would look into making Thread 2.
With a plethora of hangar simulators coming out, you have found that EVE is not actually the game you are looking for. Thus you fear for it's future because while you aren't leaving yet, eventually you will. You realise other people will stay, as EVE is the game they are looking for, yet somehow the fact that it has lost it's shine in your eyes makes you believe that CCP need to develop something new rather than just patching EVE.
The reality is, CCP's attempts to expand EVE or move beyond it have met with... limited success (see: Incarna, DUST, WoD). 'Just patching EVE' has in fact been demonstrated to be the best option for CCP for now. EVE will be fine, and I hope that when it does eventually die, it will be a graceful decline wherein it stays true to its roots and still has a dedicated core of fans present to see it off, rather flailing and thrashing in a pointless attempt to reinvent itself back into relevance achieving nothing but to alienate those who once cared for it.
Good luck with whatever game you end up playing, and wait what the **** this was supposed to be a joke post what happened. [witty image] - Stream |
