Keep it fairly short and actually be helpful, yeah I know asking a lot from the GD crowd but Ill give it a go.
Strength isnt measured in numbers but in force of will. For if one motived willful individual stands many will fall around him that are weak.

Don't go into wormhole space in your little T1 exploration frigate. Bad things will happen... as I discovered to my cost.
These are the most common questions I see in rookie chat:
How do I copy names into the chat? How do I find asteroids to mine? My overview disappeared, how do I get it back? How do I find agents? I'm stuck in the solar system map, how do I exit/view the star map? What is high sec/low sec? My ship blew up, can I get it back? Where is Jita? How do I sell my ore? How do I split stacks? Is it possible to afford a PLEX before my trial runs out? Where are Sisters of EVE?
CCP needs to mail the answers to these questions to every new player when they log in for the first time |

As in Real Life, anyone who tells you "I enjoy doing XXXX, therefore you will ONLY have fun if you do XXXX as well" is wrong.
EVE is a sandbox, not a linear game. Yes, there are goals you can set for yourself:
- Be a Titan pilot.
- Have a Billion ISK in your wallet.
- Blow up 100 ships.
- Be in the team that wins a Tournament
- Destroy a big Corp from the inside
but these are your goals. If you don't enjoy mining or mission running or manufacturing or PvP then don't do them! |

eve is a game of diminishing returns, especially when it comes to the size and cost of .. stuff
This is something I need to quote.
I have seen people who run help channels telling new players that you should wait until your skills are maxed. To quote one perticular case.
"You should setup a Skillplan for 6 month and then go and play something else while you train the skills". (That advise was given out be the person who created the help channel)
If you somehow get invited into a private help channel where you are given advice like that: Just close it and never come back, those people have absolutly no clue what they are talking about.
That being said, never let people discourage you to try out things in Eve.
Other than that:
- EvE is not a single player game.
- Do not be afraid of getting blown up in PvP. Learn from your mistakes and you will slowly get better and will definetly at some point become successfull.
- Do not grind ISK all day just for the sake of being able to plex your accounts - use your ISK to go out and have some fun -> If you make enough ISK to be able to afford plex and still have enough left over to be able to grab some ships and have fun, it is fine to plex your accounts, but playing Eve just to be able to keep your accounts active is a pointless activity which you will get bored of after a few month and you will end up leaving Eve without ever having seen the fun aspects of the game.
- Do not start your own corporation until you are familiar with the game mechanics and when you have no idea what it means to run a corporation in Eve -> Corporations in Eve are totally different from guilds (shared chatrooms) in other games and to be successfull with a corporation it means you will have to invest a lot of time, especially in the early stages. |

Do what you find fun, not what's "most effective." There'll be plenty of time for that later on.
A fair few newbies seem to be so focused on PLEXing their account from trial to the Titan they inevitably want that they flame out and leave EVE fairly soon. It's a shame. I took a long break from EVE when I had the same mentality. Now I just do what I want to do in the game without worrying about PLEX, and it's much more fun. I know that may seem obvious, but the PLEX goal can blind many newbies to it.
Note that I'm not saying you can't PLEX from trial with very limited skills, you can. It's just really not a good goal to have as a newbie, I think. |

Find what you like to do and have fun doing, and do it, regardless of whether someone calls you a carebear, scrub, noob or whatever. This isn't the kind of game where you start at A, move on to B, then C, then you sit back and lord over the noobs. The most incredible and notorious eve events and personalities are not in the tutorials.
There's a ton of ways to play and enjoy new eden - find out what you enjoy and keeps you logging in, and ignore the haters, because no matter what you're doing in this game, there's plenty of other capsuleers who think you're doing it wrong.

Almost as toxic a lie as "Low sec space=instadeath"
Sure, if you wander into a gatecamp it's instadeath, but there are vast, VAST areas of Low Sec that are practically uninhabited.
Going into Wormhole space in your little T1 frigate is awesome. As long as you have a cloak, probe, and remember to bookmark your damn entrance.

This a couple times over. Way too many SP and hours wasted mining, even after it stopped being fun... which was pretty quickly. It's a means of generating some early isk, but had I known then what I do now I would have made an alt for that alone and gone into pew with my main firstly. |
