I have just got a new widescreen laptop. I have set eve to run in widescreen but nothing seems to happen. The image is still very much 4:3 squashed into a 16:9 ratio. Does this widescreen option work/is it broken/is it even implented properly in the game ? Thanks

I wouldn't use the widescreen option.
To get the widescreen resolution, simply change the video mode to one of the widescreen ones (i.e., 1680x1050 works fine here).
If those aren't visible, try switching in and out of full screen mode. ---- EVE-Central.com - Cross-region market view and trade finder |

like the poster before me said, i'm not sure that the 'widescreen' mode has to do with ratio so much as having the black lines at the top and bottom - change the aspect ratio to get it into true widescreen (and i have a widescreen laptop too, it runs great)

I think it would more adequately be named letterbox. Anyway, it does have the potential to reduce a bit of lag.

Have you tried changing the resolution? EVE can use any resolution that Windows detects. However, the default resolution is always 1024x768. On a widescreen display, this will look distorted.

Try to, if possible, set the in-game resolution to match the native resolution of your laptops LCD display. Unfortunately, some of the laptops have some funky native resolutions. I play Eve @ 1680x1050 on my Gateway 21" widescreen just fine, and I haven't touched the widescreen option in the settings, just set the resolution to 1680x1050.
If your native resolution isn't available, select a resolution that matches your aspect ratio, or close to it, and things should look appropriately proportioned. 16:9 and 16:10 are close enough that stretching will be minimal. Try to get the resolution as close to yours as possible as well (or as high as your computer can handle). Don't go with something higher than your native res though, cause then you're just wasting processing time rendering a scene that's greater than your LCD can display.
