By the time CCP gets sold,EVE will already be on it's way to the grave and selling will be Hillmar trying to get some of his eggs out of the falling basket. If EA buys it, it will be for 2 reason. 1- Get the IP for potential future games. 2- Try to pull it out of the hole with investment few company beside EA are able to dump in a game. Most likely number 1. |

Honestly, I don't think CCP will be bought by EA anytime soon or ever. Frankly Westwood was absorbed because EA wanted Command and conquer. Once they had that they killed EnB. The only IP that could maybe entice EA is WoD. I doubt eve has the traction to base other games on if eve and the like was killed. Until you see valk and legion launched and how they fair that's when you should worry. OMG Comet Mining idea!!! https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=331766 |

The biggest obstacle for CCP to overcome during its 'second decade' will be CCP itself and its lack of focus (EVE, Dust 514, Legion, Valkyrie, WoD) or willpower to finish what they start (ambulation, PI, relevant interaction between Dust and EVE, again WoD).
CCP needs decisive leadership, a unified vision for the future, goals that can be achieved with the skills they have at their disposal, an awareness of skills they don't possess, a strict time schedule in which to achieve milestones, competent responsible managers that know how to motivate a team, ...
All of the aforementioned will be prerequisites for EVE to make it into its third decade. Carebear Extraordinaire |

And you show why the internet makes people stupid.
All that shows is less people logging in at the same time, that proves nothing about subscriptions and the like. For example, I can easily set a month skill on my three accounts, and either hardly touch eve or not log on at all and still pay a sub during that time. eve-offline will show -3 people for the month. Does that mean my account is unsubbed? no it doesn't.
In addition, ccp released there finances for the first 6 months, if you ignore the issue about WoD closing, ccp lost around 200k (off the top of my head) if you break that down to its simplest form 200k/6 month = ~$33333.33 / 15 = 2,222 so they are down 2,222 subscriptions. 500k(last year)-2k is nothing.
The issue however, is it could be more. As we do not know what % of the total game revenue is subscription and what % is dust/plex/whatever. Nor do we know if sony pays CCP on the back end. I.e. at the end of the year they get a lump sum from sony for all the AUR sales.
Plus, you had this thing going on in dust after the Rouge Wedding where people were demanding refunds. So depending on if and how much sony refunded that also could of impacted that as well. Based on raw numbers, CCP has barley lost anyone.
Granted they could be down on TQ but way up in plex and other sales, or way up in china. But as I can only prove ccp lost about 2k players in 6 months... shrugs OMG Comet Mining idea!!! https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=331766 |

One more piece to note, while the average players online are down to 2008 levels, if you look at the daily numbers they are hitting near 40k every day, and some, on the 24th for example topped out at 42k, which is 12k more then the average. Daily numbers are not hitting near 40k everyday, and the graph shows the numbers are not at a strong level. Daily numbers hit over 40k on Sundays on occasion. This is not unusual for summer but even so there is a slowdown. But that's not unique to Eve; MMOs are having a bad year according to online sources. Not going to trouble to find links but you can google and see. The last couple of weekends have been better, probably due to Alliance Tournament. You don't have to guess about the numbers, just bookmark this site, which is run by Chribba.
2.5 accounts per player is the figure I have read, so 36k accounts online means roughly 14-15k actual players; though the average number of accounts per player may be lower by now, since recent game changes have lowered the need for multiple accounts. |

Sigh, clearly you did not read or understand what i wrote. As i pretty much said, base doff the info we have, ccp has lost about 2k subscribers. But thats just raw info, not broken down. A good % of that could be AUR/Dust?plex sales/something other then subscriptions. And the daily numbers peak well above average. I'm saying, simply put, if you ignore the write off of WoD, and look at CCP's revenues for the 1/2 a year, its only down 200k. The scary thing though, is that it is prolly telling that Dust doesn;t pull in a ton of money, because the samer period last year had dust 'live' for about a month before the 1/2 year figures were written. Looking at that, CCP is fine. Now if we had subscriber numbers then we could paint a full picture, but we don;t. Eve-offline doesn;t tell you anything about subscriber numbers, just how many accounts are online. And there could be a ton of accounts that are just skill trianing and paid up for months, OR there could be a ton unsubscribed/ At this point, with the data we have currently, we can;t tell for sure what it is. Just that ccp is down form last year 1.8%, which honestly is not a huge deal. OMG Comet Mining idea!!! https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=331766 |

Multiple Character Training. People no longer need additional accounts to train short-time alts that do not need to be logged on concurrently. (PI, market, manufacturing, etc.) People who train and sell characters no longer necessarily need additional accounts to do so. This does result in fewer concurrent logins and in some cases fewer subs. "i advice you to go spit on the back of someone else because you are fall on the wrong horse." - Meio Rayliegh |

He's not wasting his time, i listen to decent arguments. The fact's however, prove that he and the people flipping out over eve-offlines numbers and pulling conclusions out of there ass. If you can give me a fact, like oh idk, an artificial that says eve is down a lot of subscriber then fine. But i look at the same data you are, as well as take into account the financial report, and the picture that is painted for me, is no where close to what is painted for you. Mainly because the 'losses' are not really losses. and when you compare CCP's operational budget of 28m with there revenue stream of 36.5m or whatever it is (i forget what the . is off the top of my head) then you see CCP is making money. The loss would not be a loss if they had not canceled WoD, thus it is more then likly on the books to write off taxes. Also people posting glassdoor.com, where as it is fully admitted that ccp was not sure what to do with WoD and eve was there baby, means that people posting there form the Atlanta office ofc are going to be biased as that was the way it was. WoD was a secondary project and not important. and no, they can;t just post whatever they want to make themselves look rosey. They have to report income and stuff correctly to the Iceland equivalent of the IRS or be audited and shut down if they are cooking the books. If they lie in public statements, it can bite them in the ass later. They can however, omit the raw data, as in what % of revenue is Dust and what % is eve and what % is other.
Now, could i be analyzing the data before me incorrectly? Sure i could. Does it mater? Nope. I'll play eve till the lights go off or they pry the keyboard form my cold dead hands. If you don;t like eve, or don;t want to play then why are you here? And if you like eve, then why worry about how well ccp is doing? if you are that worried get more accounts or spend more money. Otherwise, who cares. OMG Comet Mining idea!!! https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=331766 |

since recent game changes have lowered the need for multiple accounts.
I'm curious.. what do you think these changes are? Multiple Character Training. People no longer need additional accounts to train short-time alts that do not need to be logged on concurrently. (PI, market, manufacturing, etc.) People who train and sell characters no longer necessarily need additional accounts to do so. This does result in fewer concurrent logins and in some cases fewer subs.
Also the changes in invention mean that several additional characters that do nothing but copy blueprints all day long are no longer mandatory. I welcome these changes, but I am afraid they may lead to less subscribed accounts.
I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

People come and go from a company, so yet another high profile name leaving is not in and of itself news. The key is to look at the trends. Is CCP shedding more quality people than they are hiring, even with the WoD and Dust disasters factored in?
First half 2014 financials were released. Income was essentially flat from the previous year (down I think 200,000 dollars) compared to the same 2013 period. And looking at the summer login numbers, things look grim for the 2nd half numbers, which we will see in Feb 2015. I think that set of financials will be far more telling as to what the fate of Eve and CCP is.
But hey, in the meantime, the propagandists and ISD can, and will, shut down any conversation about this, because "it is non-constructive". |

Thanks Dom, Zim.. I did not realize Multiple Character Training is less than a year old.
I've always taken it for granted, having started in Feb, and I assumed that it was a legacy feature. ~ Please support a yellow jumpsuit for me (and everyone else). Thank you! ~ |
