How incredibly annoying it is. You go to sleep but forget to set a skill that will take more than 1-2 hours to complete. You wake up, log in, realize that your current skill completed 6 hours ago. SH!T!!! Even going to dinner, coming back to the game an hour later and realizing that your skill completed 23 minutes ago - that sucks, too. What's worse, you go on a week long vacation and suddenly remember while on the airplane that you forgot to set your skills. And there's always the dreaded ISP failure that lasts 6 hours when your skills finish in 1.
So, how much skill training have you lost? I've been playing for about 6 months now and figure that I've lost about ~24 or so hours of skill training time. I would imagine there's probably worse, so lets hear your tales.

I have no clue what was the longest period, but I remember while I had very little time to play the game during finals one semester, I memorized the day of the week the skill finish (Sunday), but thought that it finished a week after it did
There went a weeks worth instantly, although I think that probably accounts for ~50% of my lost time (Not including the 6 months I left the game, where I finished a skill 1 day after my account was suspended)

I dunno something about "lost skill training time" just doesn't strike me as a huge disaster. I mean, think about all the time you spend in your life doing absolutely nothing. Would you call your early childhood, and your future retirement "lost EVE skill training time"? Just being a pre-professional MtG player where one mistake can cost thousands of dollars... losing a bit of skill time just doesn't seem so bad.

My 8 month char is down over three months in training . It hurts like hell to think about it, but it couldnĘt be helped. Work commitments meant I was working overseas and unable to login to set skills for training. It wouldnĘt have hurt so much had I known in advance I would be away that long, as I could of set the skill with the longest training time going before I left. Oh well I now have a full rack of +4's and am closing out learning skills (adv level 4)to claw back as many sp's as possible

I recently wasted a day. But I lose time quite regularly unless I have one of those character planning tools running to alert me to finished skills.

My worst period of non skilling was when i travelled to India last year, i was gone for over 5 months and had forgotten to start a skill before i left. Just thinking of what i could have achieved during that time hurts my brain!
Having said that i had an excellent time.

I count on losing about 3 hours per month. I consider that "to be expected." So when it happens, I'm not that bummed about it.

About a week total over a year's period. I got distracted by DDO and have done what you did 5 times. /*----------------------------------------------------------------------------------*/ My opinion in no way represents that of my corp or anyone I am associated with, and is probably entirely wrong. |

Worst single time period (that i remember) was 22 hours during the RMR upgrade downtime. In total maybe a whole weeks worth out of the ~9 months of playtime.

I've easily lost a month of training time.
Fact of the matter is I forgot or I choose to keep training the skill knowing I'd lose time by not being able to swap when it was done.
Such is the way of Eve. Deal with it and move on.

I have a idear, sometimes I have to go away for long amounts of time with no chance to change my skill training. I surgest CCP puts in a mod which lets you start training a skill at its first level and if you dont change it the skill just keeps going till level five.
Its a pain to be away knowing your skill has ended but cant do a thing about it. Sometime theres never a 35 day skill training when you need it

Next time your skill is due to end, wait a few minutes. Put your head down or go get a drink or just plain don't do anything. You'll soon feel better about the whole realtime skill thing.
Just now I lost about 20 minutes skilling because I didn't want to pause BSG to go change it. Starbuck's cool :)

Edited by: Niccolado Starwalker on 13/09/2006 07:40:58 If the game started up in May 2003, I have lost aproximately 2 years and 7 months, in which time I instead wasted playing SWG before my eyes where opened for this wonder.
After that, I have taken care not to waste more time. Think its only a few of hours gone in the bin, mostly due to family dinners.

I lost about 3.5 weeks in one go - I had no internet.
Lost a few days a while back when I thought i had a 2 week skill going, but it was a 9 hour one. So yeah..
Thats why I am about 10 mil sps below where I should be --- I'm going through sigs fast these days. |

I've lost maybe a week or so in the last year and it used to really bug me. Then I saw a post like someone has mentioned above and realised that I lost over 2 years of skill training before I discovered EVE and when you think about that, it kinda puts my lost week in perspective. Either that or its this new medication which has chilled me out!
Also having high Charisma (seemed like a good idea at the time ) means that I've probably lost more SP to the average player than my week of having no skill training.

I would contend that it in fact took a week.
I've probably lost less than a day on this character, but I did kind of lose 3 months between when I first got to play Eve and when I got broadband where I was living. ----------

3 weeks lost in a single act of stupidity. 'bout a million sps at the time.
Ho hum. Means the pain of overrunning an hour or two is vastly lessened these days. I tend to run skills down to an 'hour or two' and let 'em finish at a point where I know I'm going to be online these days.

I'd say that in 2 1/2 years of playing EVE, I've lost about 6 months training time. That includes one or two long inactive periods, and a general apathy toward SP in general :) ----------------------------------------------

Edited by: ReaperOfSly on 14/09/2006 16:55:44 Yeah I lost 20 days due to an unfortunate podding once. The station my clone was at had no medical facility, so it's not like I just forgot to update
Oh and other than that, I think I've lost about a couple of weeks due to forgetting skill switches.

I have adopted the "train short skills while you're online, and long skills when you sleep and work" philosophy.
However, recently I lost 8 hours on each of my two accounts because I went to sleep without changing skills. DAMN! But on the other hand, all it really means is that I will finish my skilling 8 hours later and that's not a bit deal to me.
How seriously can any one of us say, "Now that I didn't switch my skill training, my ficticious character in a video game will have to wait another 8 hours before his shields have 5% more capacity!"? If you said that in a supermarket, you'd be carried out in a white coat with long sleeves that buckle in the back.

No, this happens when you say, "****! I knew I shouldn't have went to sleep... Now it's gonna be 8 more hours before my shield have 5% more capacity!" And I should know, I just got out of the loony bin...

Heh, I lose a solid 9-10 hours every day that I set a skill to end the next morning so I can change up before I go to work...
Then the g'damn server takes longer than expected to get back online, and I have to head to work without setting a new one to train. Full work day's worth of SP lost. =(
