I would say it's reasonable to expect that you could possibly be shot at in a warzone, even if you are neutral. Even blue people get fired on sometimes. Bottom line - if you aren't sure you can get your purchases home safely, don't buy them in the first place.
As for shuttles being harmless - anything with a pilot inside can be used for spying.

Apologies if we all sound a little harsh. From the point of view of a lot of alliance/corp people, it seems incredible that someone doesn't understand the harsh realities of 0.0 space. Having said that, from the point of view of a lot of Empire dwellers, the 0.0 alliances are mad, insular and psychopathic. Don't let the comments get you down.

That's pretty much true, in two ways.
Firstly, at the moment it's a war zone and so industry in the area pretty much shuts down. The people fighting will get their supplies from outside the area in most cases.
Secondly, a lot of alliances and corps can be self-sustaining in terms of ISK and raw materials. They do interact with the rest of the galaxy to trade but, at least in the short term, they don't have to.

I even renamed my ship to courier mission in hope that anything might help. If someone had left a secure can warning of the battleground I would have tried to contact someone then put escrow in their name so they could meet me at a safer location to have traded items to me I would have paid them for the inconvenience and their time. Undoubtedly making any type of sale in that area for any crafter would seem impossible unless they prefer to keep isk flowing within their Alliance and brother corporations only.
Open your map and see that big red zit when you choose to view "ships destroyed in the last xxx hours"?
Yup, you walked in there didn't you? You'd walk on the beach in Normandy in WWII shouting "STOP! zomg, I'm just collecting seashells!"
"Griefers!......splat"
Seriously, get some common sense. Complaining about getting ganked in the second hottest system in EvE at the moment is pretty dumb.

BoB was not known for be shy on numbers when it came to fighting even before the Goons entered EVE.
Heading anywhere in LowSec/NulSec without even looking at the map rarely pays off, regardless of the offer. It is just a bit strange that they didn't get you on the way in. --*=*=*--

This is not WoW, Everquest or some pansy greenrobed wizardy game where your stupidity does not turn round and smack you in the face. If you want reward, prepare for risk.

Try to put yourself into their shoes/cockpit/pod for a minute.
Now I'm not familiar with that region of space but as I understand it from posters here it's a system under the control of an enemy of BoB? You want to sit in this system and take out yer enemies, you don't do it in "shuttle-killing" ships, you want to be fairly well equipped to deal with the nastiest stuff that can come through the gate, correct?
Now taking into consideration the NBSI policy, and the fact that it's not unheard of for people to us neutral alts for a variety of roles, including spying etc, a neutral player will get shot at by the aforementioned campers (or as I like to call them, "Temporary Gate Guardians").
Naming ships is always a fuzzy area, as is the intentions of anyone who approaches you. You could name your ship "Full of baby orphans" if the character limit allowed, and this wouldn't make much if any difference than if your ship was called "Mistrell Dustrunner's Shuttle".
Stepping back into the pods of the TGG's again, you're in a hostile system, you've been told NBSI, and a neutral shuttle comes at you/tries to get away from the gate. For all they know it's an alt of their enemies, and they are in 0.0 space, well within their rights to shoot it. Shuttles are nippy little buggers and as such need to be killed quick to prevent the target escaping, so utilising your full firepower isn't all that bad.
In their eyes, a potential threat has been eliminated, and effectively, quickly, minimal fuss.
The escrow seller was probably acting in good faith and trying to get a sale, relying on frequent or permament 0.0 dwellers to understand the nuances of low sec protocols and what to check on the map beforehand, and as far as I know might be bummed out that you lost a ship, bp's and a clone to what could be their enemy. If you had an up to date clone then you lose ISK, which can be replaced more easily than skill points, and you've learnt a lesson about 0.0 space you won't soon forget, albeit one that it would have been better to do the theory on before jumping ahead to practical tasks.
If you want to acquire more items from 0.0, I suggest you contact the nearest friendly alliance/corp/character with good experience of that space and get some advice.
Best of luck in the future.

No, more to do with the fact we'd been in the area 24 hours in combat ships and would not be carrying those goods for sale.

That wasn't even a scam. He shopped, docked and left the station ... Maybe a bit expensive, 0 BPO for a shuttle and probably a new clone. You renewed your clone, right? --*=*=*--
