ok so now that I've relocated all my industry stuffs (RF is awesome!), I thought that this would be a good time to rearrange it all in a more efficient way.
the way I was doing it before, I had a containers - one for components, one for planetary stuff, one for ores/mins, etc. you get the idea (also a container for each category of BPO, plus one for it's relevant T2 BP, and one for its BP copies ready to be invetnted). I had like 50 or more different containers all designated for specific parts categories and then another 50 or more for the BPs. when i went to build something I would look for the parts in their relevant container. It struck me as kind of confusing as different builds have some of the same components and I would be always taking parts for one build that I'd earmarked to save for some other build. Plus it took time to look up what category a certin part would be in so I could go to the right container.
Now however, I'm thinking that maybe I should have a container for each item I build rather than each component category. I would put all the parts to build however many of the item I'd want into the container and build from there.
does this sound like a good way to keep track of everything?
My operation is peanuts compared to most -- what methods do you mega-industrialists use to keep track and stay sane with all the parts? |

Your new plan sounds reasonable. But figure out whatever works for you.
My blueprints are sorted into cans similar to how you described.
However, I just let all my raw materials intermingle on the hangar floor. I have a shopping list page on my spreadsheet. I tell it that this week I want to build 3 units of X, and 200 Y, and 1000 Z. The spreadsheet adds up all the raw materials and tells me that I need so many tritanium and so many fullerides, and so many robotics, etc. Buy it all. Haul it all. Dump it all together. Start the jobs. Then again, I always look for the laziest way to do things. |

I have all my indy items in the same station, all the rest in another where my corp is based ( and hangars ).
If you do it this way you don't need a gazillion containers to sort stuff.
When you mine and reprocess or buy minerals you just drop them at the indy station ready to manufacture.
All your bp's are sorted alphabetically anyway, so just scroll. |

I've my BPOs in POS facilities, so, the bpos i need to research are in res lab, the ones i'm inventing in design array and so on, i keep all minerals in hangar array and transfer them when needed, this works for me, but i think that this can work only with lillte production lines |

I keep my raw materials in the item hanger so I won't have to move them when I'm ready to use them.
I sort through the materials by using combinations of 'my filters', word filter and the list icons in the upper right of the item hanger.
I also use jEveAsset to keep track of what I have on hand using Saved Filters - this is how I keep track of the component categories you mentioned.
I use a handful of containers to separate BP's - such as Researched BPO's, BPO's needing research, BPC's ready for Invention, T2 BPC's, etc. This makes it easier to bring up subsets of BP's in the Industry UI. |

lots of good ideas! I have a feeling that keeping all the parts loose on the hangar floor will be less of a headache in the long run. |

I wouldn' t go that far. I use 1 container.
Minerals and components needed for a particular job get pulled out and dropped on the floor along with the relevant blueprint. After the job is started the remainder is dumped back in the container.
Jobs go to hanger. I can see when things are done (blueprints on floor, completed modules on floor, etc).
Everything else is done with my filters and 3rd party programs. |

Hi My suggestion...
There are 2 things to keep track of and 3 to care about (according to me...)
We had containers and names and what not Before the new UI.
It ofcourse depends if u work from a station/several station or a pos/several poses. You can have a much "coarser aproach" (mix stuff upp more) with the search function in the new UI. Just keep things in seperate hangars "all battle ships in one, all missiles in one..." whatever suits your mind" and use the filter by location and then by name.
The UI loads ALL BPO/BPC when you open it so you dont have to keep the same Control as Before (must ofcourse be in some kind of hangar "i Think").
The only reason to realy split BPC's up are to know how many you have (and ofcourse if you have realy many you must since it isnt supported but dont Think you have that problem yet...), for that reason we put all Tech 2 BPC's in seperate hangars (the one we are working with at the moment not "all") to keep track of how many we need to invent for future runs SINCE THERE ARE NO "COUNT OF RECORDS" when you filter in the UI. Ought to be...
I this case you have to open that specific hangar and there you get a record Count, this is ofcourse only a problem if you have large amounts of BPO/BPC's.
Mixing BPO/BPC is not a problem either since you can filter on that aswell and with different attributes you just use the sorting since all jobs starts thru the ui.
Many people complain about the "grey ones" meaning installed jobs still being present in the list, there are pro's and con's about this and you should be able to filter them out BUT I*M CONVINCED THAT IF PEOPLE FILTERED ON THEIR BPC's (invention) or BPO's (propably Construction Components) ON THE TYPE THE "GREY ONES DOESNT BOTHER THAT MUCH (just a tip)
