I was traveling to a far away place to buy some equipment. As I approached the stargate, 2 NPC pirates attacked me. I returned fire with my heavy lasers and destroyed them. Seconds later, the sentry guns opened fire on me and destroyed my ship. Again, I did not use weapons that could cause splash damage so I have no idea why the guns opened fire on me.
Immediately after, I had a corp mate come gather my debris. After filling his cargo hold with my stuff, he jumped out of the system safely (none of the sentries in that system bothered him at all). As he approached the stargate in the next system, the sentry guns opened fire on him and destroyed him. By this time, I picked up a new ship so I raced out to pick up his and my debris. When I arrived, the sentry gun destroyed me too.
What the hell is going on here? Both of our faction ratings are good with regard to Concord, etc. Why would sentries open fire like that without provocation? Why were they inconsistant in that the first one blew me up and left him alone, but the next one he ran into destroyed him? and why did all of the gate sentries ignore me as I returned with my new ship until I got to the system where I needed to pick up the debris?
We lost 2 battleships and a heavy cruiser. Go figure.

For the original poster, what sovereignty's space were you in? There was a Blood Raider faction bug a while back that did something similiar.

Also, most sentry guns are Empire controlled, so if your faction with that empire is too low the guns will fire

I have a -4.37 standing with Amarr due to mission running. If Amarr sentry guns were attacking me due to my faction, I'd have cancelled my account by now. The sentry guns have no business interacting with faction status so long as they're tuned to their current level. And there are Amarr stargates with Amarr sentry guns all over the place, including inside Heimatar and other Minmatar regions, which would make travelling a very painful thing even for a battleship.

Yes, there was a bug. It could either be that the sentry guns are mislabelled as Concord instead of Blood Raider. Or there is a bug in the agression systems still.
I'd suggest petitioning it (don't ask me under what category). Your corpmate, if he trully didn't take any hostile action against anything, really shouldn't have been affected as corp standing towards factions was specifically disabled 2 patches ago for sentry guns.

You shot Blood Raiders at a gate with Blood Raider controlled sentry guns... I don't really know if that's classified as a bug.

Yes, I was in Blood Raider space, but the pirates did attack me first. I assume we are allowed to defend ourselves. I dont recall sentries opening fire like this in any other instance I've ever heard about.

... Just curious; were you, by chance, still sitting near that gate in your pod while your friend was collecting your stuff?
The guns shooting both you and your friend sound like aggression due to your corporation being on wrong terms with the faction which controls the guns, but i thought it's currently disabled because this particular standing cannot be viewed anywhere, and as such could be really confusing.... o.O

It's possible those other sentry guns belong to another faction, with which your corporation has positive or neutral standing.

The same thing has happened to me. Unfortunately, CCP will not refund you ISK, or at least they did not to me. They claim their logs are not complete enough to verify....which makes sense. But I would still send a petition so they realize how common it is and needs to be addressed. It is a bug that floats around from patch to patch.

Same here. I already posted my saga, but I'll bump this because apparently the sentry gun operators are on c_r_a_c_k.
I petitioned, naturally, and agreed I might have done something wrong the first ship that was destroyed... but not the second. Sentry guns apparently "remember" for a period of time.
Since more and more people are talking about this phenomenon, I wonder if I will actually get my reimbursement now that it is not "something I did wrong"? LOL. Right.

for the record, my faction was non-existant prior to the attack, just after it was -0.10 with the Federation Navy, and today it's back to being non-existant. I'm tellin ya, something is WRONG. :)

Just another example of why people *****ing and complaining about stuff gets people killed unnecessarily.
Sentry guns have no business being as powerful as they are. It's just stupid, and this is what happens because of it.

Honestly. I've had it. I'm in Playboy Enterprises and not only have we not heard squat about our missing BPs, I have yet to hear about this issue. Why do we even file petitions? They may get answered (not in this case), but they never get solved. I give up.
