More importantly: Frig, Cruiser, or BC, which is better to go with?

Actually, that IS ore theft... Ninja Mining is basicaly low sec mining, in quick passes, attempting to ignore the big rats in the belt. get in, load up on some ore, and get out, fast enough to not take signifigant damage form the rats. Risky, but about the most 'adventure' you're gonna get from mining... As for the best ships for it, I would suggest one of the mining cruisers. Something like the Osprey, with the mining bonus. Gonna get more yield than a battlecruiser, and a lot cheaper to replace.

actually, when you get down to it, it's not "ore theft" at all unless you’re taking it out of another miner’s can, in which case you didn’t mine it and thus it isn’t “ninja mining”.
if the rock is there, it's up for grabs no matter who's sovereignty it is. Ore isn’t exactly picky about who mines it.
Even if the area is "yours" ninja mining is merely mining on the fly, you chip as much as you can just as fast as you can and get back to base, lather-rinse-repeat.

Ninja Mining (I did this over 2 years ago as a noob...)

Warp to BIG belt. Belt must be over 150km across. Smaller belts are no good.
Pick a rock that has other rocks at least 150+ km away.
Start minung, line up for other rock.
Wait for Rats to spawn near you.
When Rats spawn, warp to other rock 150+ km away, and start mining. Wait for rats to warp to you.

The basic idea is mining without a tank by warping between roids. It worked, but not well for the time invested vs profit.
Then there is the other form of Ninja Mining that I much prefer. First, you need to find roids that have rich concentrations of Ninjas in them. These can usually be found near the uber secrets bases of Asian B-movie villians.......
