Collecting ones own bounty happens all the time. Simply get an alt or a friend to pod you to collect the bounty. Bounties are basically useless at the moment.

What happens to your bounty if you self-destruct your pod? Do you collect it, does it vanish, or does it remain there? Just curious...

I doubt it does stay there, your best bet is to add a small bounty to a alt and test this rather the loose the huge bounty placed on your pirate main to the void.

I sometimes put bountys on ppl i know and keep a eye on em to see if thay have been poded...... then send them a mail to lol at them, im nice like that

The only think I like about bounties is the skull n crossbones you get on the overview, it just looks SO RIGHT when allied to the flashing red bar
I've found that no-one really places bounties anymore (may be a different case elsewhere)

b4 jumpclones and when i was 2 poor to afford implants for my alt i would pod myself 2-3x a day to travel around

i put a 5k bounty on a few people to flag them as frequent negative to possitive
i also put one on a pirate wont say who though since he is well known cause he asked so he could get the status of a high bounty
i put one on a random person cause i felt like it

The ingame bounty system is worthless - too easy for a friend of the target to scam it. There are mercs/bounty hunters who will take direct contracts on people and that is the best way to go at the moment.
As for who I put bounties on - I've only put a bounty like that out on one person, they annoyed me enough and attempted to extort money from me after stealing mission loot....it wasn't a big enough deal to waste my time trying to hunt them down an get even myself..so I put the money he wanted to extort from me plus a lot as a bounty on him.

I killed a guys catalyst, he got rather mad and put 82m on my head, the other 4 is just random people.
The bounty system needs some serious work though..

I recieved 360m, petitioned it and was told it was because of the corp tax and that was normal :(
