First off I think the art work in this game is outstanding. However I got one question. Why is it that on the majority of the ship in eve the weapons systems (the guns) always seem to be placed in a single line vice staggered for max effiency (prob butcherd that word< webster ran off to another office). with them in a row the ships shouldnt be able to use athe majority of their guns if that are fired on the foward firing plane or aft plane. However a broadside on most of the ships could be devistating. If this game takes into account "true" firing dynamics to mach the positiong of the guns the damage would either be significantly reduced or when fired the majority of the guns would be shot off their ships lol. out of couriosity does this game take that into effect. example, when the ship if shooting from a head on target facing, then only the forward most guns or guns that have a clear shot of the target should fire.

If you have the skill for large turrets of any kind, then fit them on your favourite frig.
You can't put them online, but the frig looks excellent flying about

How a battleship turret should look
As for placement of the ship, realy does help if you cut out the tracking element at close range, not exactly your point... but it kinda relates to what your saying. ______ Long ago one gorgeous night, we let the stars grow free. We let Zhuge do that once, he came back carrying a traffic cone, a forsale sign and three empty bottles of dutch lager. He also lost his Zimmer Frame... - Imaran

I have to disagree with the OP. At the ranges battles occur and the size of the weapons in relation to the ship the chance of a firing plane actually passing through another weapon on the ship is virtually zero.
What you talk about would be likely to occur if we were talking about surface battles. That is why main guns on older ships were generally staggered one above another. In Eve, however, combat is 3-dimensional. This means that the planes of fire virtually never extend directly out from the ship, but rather, it extends at an angle relative to the direction of the ship which allows the plane to extend above other weapons mounted to the hull. It is also the reason there are always pairs of a given weapon instead of a single weapon.

Edited by: Glengrant on 04/08/2006 00:41:20 Unlike a battleship on sea a spaceship can easily roll on its axis and bring all weapons to bear within a short time frame (combat round /rate-of-fire interval).
And while we're at it - realisticaly neither projectile nor hybrid guns would have any chance at all of hitting a target. It would be just too easy for the target ship to not be where the projectices/charges fly.
The only weapons that would work at all would be beam weapons (can't be scanned before they hit - as nothing is faster than the light of the beam and beam also fast enough to hit a ship doing evasive maneouvers) and missiles - as they can simply follow the target and adjust their trajectory.
Any kind of sub-c projectile would only damage a target at very short range (a few km at most) and very low speed (almost standing still).

actually Glengrant they could hit at long range..
have you ever watched Skeet/Trap shooting at the olympics or even fired a real firearm at a moving target??
The trick is to "Lead" you target. What this means is instead of aiming at the target you aim in front of it along the path of movement to allow for the travel time of the projectile.

Projectiles would likely be the space weapons of the future.
Why? Fire them to create a cluster of things for a ship that's moving in a straight line to run into. In space without an atmosphere, most ships actually travel in a straight line, there's no swooping like you see in Star Wars. Laser type weapons just require immense power to fire... far easier to take advantage of the Kinetic Energy and Momentum of your target who's flying at hundres of meters per second and put some nice dense slugs in his or her path.

In the real world, hybrid weaponry would be more effective then beam weapons.
The reason is because they can be accelerated quick easily to near light speeds and suffer very little velocity decreases due to the fact that space is virtually friction free. Getting projectiles to this speed should be no problem because the only limiting factor is energy (and were flying spaceships so this has obviously been corrected).
I would even guess that the kinetic energy would provide more of a punch then the heat delivered by a laser. Since effective beam weapons don't exist. I can't comment on that.
