However, its contents are slightly boring, and, to me, very saddening. I'd like to explain why. Please note that the following rant is not meant as a criticism of the people in RnK: They know their game mechanics well, and it is not surprising that they use everything at their disposal to their advantage.
What this video does, in my eyes, is shed light on the severe problems with game mechanics we have in Eve today, favouring larger numbers at every point. As someone who values a GF above all else in this game, and as someone who believes that no fight is a GF if the enemy can not fight back, I naturally dislike the idea of pipebombing. So what does it say about this game if pipebombing is the only remaining option if you want to have some actual impact with less than 500 people?
In Matari Exodus, we of course have the same problems RnK has. We, too, like to fight outnumbered, and, increasingly often, find ourselves confronted with amounts of repping that we simply cannot break. We, too, have found ourselves in an arms race where, at some time in the future, no more options will be left to us, because all our enemies can endlessly outtank and out-escalate us and there are simply no upgrades available to us any more because we're already in the most powerful ships.
Now RnK have taken the arms race one step further and showed us the usage of a weapon of mass destruction. And while it honors them that they chose not to use it against random NPSI fleets, there is no going back from such a thing. All of us are already feeling the consequences: Many alliances have stopped using gates altogether because they're scared of being pipebombed, eliminating chances of a fight that isn't a hotdrop or a docking game almost completely. Every step further in the race makes it less and less likely for people to find a fight where both sides can have fun. This arms race is good for no one, but, of course, there is no way out either. What will be next?
So I thank Lord Maldoror for making this video, in the hope that other people will watch it and feel like I do. Maybe some of the guys at CCP will see it too and start thinking about how this game could be made better for people who like to win fights because they played better, not because they had a larger amount of even simpler-to-pilot ships.
Well written. You hit the bullseye.

Very well said, the only option i see is to slow down immediate reinforements aka Titan bridges one way or the other.

Good video however I do not agree with you in some things like:
-Small alliances are no longer able to fight big coalitions. That's the most idiotic thing ever. Null coalitions are getting stomped by smaller higher skill groups on a daily basis. You are good at picking fights and you should know that you just have to undock more and scout more.
Plz start doing normal pvp again with guns and stuff so that Clarion call 5 will be interesting again.

Another great video. Even though the pace of this vid was slower, it's stil great to watch. You showed once again how awesome EvE, from a graphical standpoint, is. One big negative though: I do prefer PA doing the talking, get her back into this business |

37:10 in the video.
Pilot A: Why don't we ******* go kill Rooks and Kings?
Pilot B: They're really good, but we can blob.
Pretty sure this is the best exchange ever captured on video. Could not have scripted null mentality so concisely had I tried.
As always great work Rook and Kings.

This is precisely what I suggested in a lengthy post and shorter follow up on the thread about sov and stagnation in F&I. The added benefit of slowing movement via jump drives and bridges is that it drastically lowers the value of blues who are not close by. Like the Roman said "I want to shoot", well who set everything blue?
I started playing in 2007 and null was much more dynamic then but super cap proliferation had yet to take effect and BoB, the alliance with access to the most bridges controlled the most space. Movement across space, fleet size and stagnation are all closely linked but I will not derail this thread with my entire write up here, check Fozzie's thread in F&I if you want to read the rest if you're interested.

- Only negative aspect of the video is that the actions shown in it and the release are so far apart.
- Other than that I can only say that lot of 0.0 entities provide half way intelligent small gang players with quite some killmails.
- Kinda sad so see that few SOV holders have enslaved to many grunts that they can waste fleets of any ship type.

I too haveto voice myself with some concerns.
The video (technically), narration and editing was brilliant. As someone already said propably one of the best eve videos ever.
However, excellent quality on technicalities does not fix the problem with lack of content. I propably would have enjoyed this way more, if it had been a 20 minute video. I found myself trying to watch the vid over and over again, but couldn't, as I was bored out by the content.
I do realize, that the vid was on purpose just pipebombing, but as already said, 20 minutes would have been better. I also realize, that content is increasingly difficult to find to 20 duders in fleet. |
