Long story short: I went and got my interceptor all blowded - up last night... And I loved that little bugger. But what irks me is not my unimpressive end, it is that with my platinum insurance, it paid-out all of like 2.5 million, when I paid around 8 million for the ship.
When I got the insurance I figured it would scale to the average price in the region or some such. Of course I didn't pay any attention when I got the insurance, since I've always had it pay the full amount and I always get platinum.
Does the insurance not scale since Tech II ships are always well above the base price listed here on the site?

Insurance gets ship value from the base price or the price of the minerals or something like that. You will never get close to purchase price for insuring a tech 2 ship.

I appreciate the knowledge. Thanks  In that case, for the time being I think I will stick to one of my Tech I ships then for my low sec ventures.

if you think thats bad you should see the discrepancy between the Hulks cost & insurance payout. platinum only gives about 30mill & the ship costs 300-500mill!!!
