I dont see the problem, this isnt like other MMORPGs where you are forced to camp in a spot to gain exp. All skill exp is on a timer, being able to utilize the most of your skill advancement wont ruin the game like it would in other games.
Skilling up a lvl 5 over the course of days wont be sped up much by a script.

So the solution to being able to change skills is to buy extra hardware that has nothing to do with the game? While your solution is apparently true, to allow updates via PDA without allowing them via desktop is crazy.
Please CCP pay attention to this and don't implement the PDA updates without a similar desktop feature.
As far as writing a script to do skill changes via a queue-Why can't CCP use an encrypted, random code generated login thingy? I am not a dev and know jack about writing code, but I do know that when I log into certain sites e.g. Ticketmaster.com, and certain eBay features, I need my own login name and password as well as a site-generated code to ensure that I am a real user and not a script or a bot of some kind. CCP has to be able to do this as well-problem solved.
Either that or just give us a limited skill queue in-game.

A lot of sites now have randomly generated codes for users to type in.
The problem with it? Once you have a sample it is easy enough to train the bot to read the image.
Ultimately the people who are begging for a skill queue are the ones that have poor organisational skills. It isn't that hard to organise your skills around your life, I've been doing it for the last 2 years....

I don't want to start flamage over simple details, but most sites that use the system we're talking about have a nearly infinite number of backgrounds, watermarks, letter skews, etc. to make most bots not worth the time if it's even possible to write one that well. That being said, I'm sure that Eve could conceviably have users capable of writing that bot, but it still doesn't change the fact that a portable client that can access contracts, change skills, and some other things appears to be in the works so why is it a priority to have something available for a handheld and expressly barred from the desktop space?
Secondly, it's unfair to say that people who would like a skill queue are poorly organized. That's quite a leap. I currently switch to long skills when I'll be gone for a day or two and always make sure that a skill will not finish while I sleep, but that doesn't make me a taskmaster or somebody who doesn't do that poorly organized.
Thirdly, on a real level, it is already possible to write an application to log into your account, make a couple of cursor movements, and log back out. I certainly can't do such a thing, but it's possible.
I guess I don't see the reason why it's such a hangup for people. If well thought out and limited in scope (e.g. you can't set a six month skill queue and have an 8 million sp pilot come out next February) I personally would see that as an enhancement and not a detriment to the game.

I've been gone from home for 6 weeks, and haven't had time to access EVE. Why can't I just log in and change my skills? Perhaps because I dont have access to a computer that I own, and therefore cannot log into EVE and say hello to my corp mates or change my skills. So I put cruiser 5 to train..and that ended a week ago. Now what am I supposed to do? I dont get home for 2 weeks.
I support the web based skilling.

I use PC Anywhere to alter skills while at work, if I need to. Now, it takes some getting used to, since PC Anywhere can't deal with the amount of graphics data in the game, so it won't remotely update more than what is under your mouse cursor at anyone time in the game. However you can successfully use the mouse to "paint" the screen if you know where things are in the GUI and operate the skills screen.
It looks extremely ugly, but it works just fine. I wouldn't use that for 1 hr skills, but for say 4-6H skills, or skills that I really, really want to use when I get home, it's great. Turn on the skill when you leave for work and then, log in once or twice a day and make an adjustment. Its really useful for skills too short to turn on just before bed, but too long to actually train while in-game.

Being in the forces, i often have to go away for up to 4 months at a time, there is no way that I can log into eve while i'm away and no way I can connect my own machine to the internet, so I have to rely on the hardware that is supported by the military, which allows use of internet explorer and that's about it.
To be able to change skills when I am deployed out of area would be fantastic, I have yet to find a skill that I wanted to train that would take 120 days to train while I am away from home. I know there is the option of getting somebody else to change skills for me, but as people have had great pleasure in pointing out in the past, this is account sharing and goes against the EULA. For somebody in my position, which is hardly a unique position, a web based skill change would be perfect.

Hello?!? Always some "person" who finds it necessary to characterize a difference of purely subjective opinion into a character defect on the part of those who disagree.
I should think those who request a web-based method seek *convenience*. You know, like a dishwasher. Or being able to bank online. Or being able to purchase a book online. Or having a riding lawnmower.
Wouldn't you say?

I have internet access at work but can not run the client. However I do have access to my home computer from work thru gotomypc.com. I can not play the game because it lags terribly but I can get on and change training. I use this program for other reasons so wouldn't justify the cost simply to change skill training but it is handy for that.

I posted this on a simliar thread, i can play eve over logmein.com. You need a pc on at home and a pc with a web browser that you can install active x stuff on. " I donĘt use VNC at all but logmein.com is not a normal remote desktop program. It mounts a virtual mirrored video driver and physicaly sends a copy of your primary display over the web, which gets re interoperated as an active x webpage. Now how many of you have played a video in windows media player, connected a 2nd monitor to your pc or laptop, but when you moved the video to the other screen (extended desktop) the video does not display but when you drag it back its still playing but for some reason its just not being renderedą well itĘs the same problem with eve.
Solution: My work around, I found by chance, I connected a 2nd monitor (my tv in fact) via the S video port on my laptops gfx card and I extended the desktop to this window using that check box under the Display properties (Settings TAB) When I finished I did not un check this box I simply shut the computer down and removed the cable. I now can still drag windows or move the mouse over to this extended desktop, tho it is not visable as there is no monitor connected. Now, for some reason, when I use www.logmein.com I can load eve and play it with the window refreshing. Un tick extend my desktop, it does not refresh, weird?
So I deduce that when I use logmein.com I am seeing a mirrored secondary display of my pripary display and for what ever reason windows is choosing not to render graphcs on this 2nd monitor?
I have an 128mb ATI mobility Radion 9700/9800, this also works on my old desktop which as an 128mb ATI Radion 9200.
Let me know if this is a fix or a fluke for me?

QFE.
People would make an auto-update program so they can level up characters without doing anything, and then sell them off on 3rd party markets or game sites.

Logmein.com works fine for me. I found it wouldn't run properly in full screen mode, probably something to do with the mirroring, but it works acceptably in windowed mode.(like playing with a lot of lag, but changing skills is a piece of cake)

I don't agree with this at all. Just because EVE is different from other MMOs in the sense that you don't have to grind out your next level doesn't mean that you should be given free skill points for doing nothing. Why should you be allowed to advance your skill training while doing absolutely nothing, not even logging in? It's already easy enough to train skills in the game and if you can't be bothered to even log in, you shouldn't be rewarded with skill points. Taking 6 weeks off the game is just like taking 6 weeks off any other game.
I think some of you people need to be playing this game -> Progress Quest.

I don't see dual training as a problem really.
Back in EverQuest 1 they added something called Alternate Experience. You could set sliders in a menu, where you decided how much, in 10% increments, of your xp gained should go to alternate experience, and how much should go to your main (Leveling) exp bar.
Dual training in EVE would, or should at least, work similarly. You pick 2 skills you want to train, then split the gained skillpoints you get between the two, either 50-50, 60-40 or 90-10, all depending.
Bottom line is, you don't train any faster. The amount of skill gained is the same. In fact, you'll be getting both the skills later than you usually would, but you can time them so you get both at the same time, or one before the other.
That is, while you are training a skill that takes 30 days you can train a skill that only takes a few hours at the same time.

I have read these topics as well, but to be honest its like the carrot on a stick method to keep us playing for something that will never ever be implimented into this game not in our lifetimes. I feel its just a big CON from CCP's point of view.

Watch the fanfest dev q&a panel video, this gets asked.
The simple reason is that the website isn't allowed write access to the game database, only to the forum part. Granting the website this access which it would need to change skills opens a can of worms you don't want to have. -- [17:47] <Mephysto> its dead, jim |

I'm currently in the US Navy, so when I'm not on 6 month deployments I'm doing 1-3 week patrol and training stuff. It's not bad when I have level V's to work on, but kind of annoying loosing two days here, a day there a week here or my last deployment which over a 6 month period I was only able to complete Cruiser V in two races. So a web based interface would be great. [PS: Eve is blocked in all Starbucks Wifi Areas in Dubai, UAE] I had to wait to pull into Hong Kong and Singapore to change skills...
As for character farming, who cares, CCP endorses Character Selling anyway, and if someone wants to farm a couple characters they'll still do it, regardless of whether they can queue or change via a web interface. I like the web interface because it allows those of us who are away from home for extended periods of time to switch our skills when on completes.
I do believe to cut down on char farming a queue is not a good idea, but a web interface to change skills would only allow for people who can't get into the client to continue their skills. It isn't going to change much about how it works now.
