Why can't we adjust which skill is being trained through the web interface? Be really really nice for those of us who end up having to be away from the ability to log into EVE for a while....

Skill training is a central part of EVE, just as central as combat and industry etc.
Allowing it to be accessed from the web makes it seem as if it is seperate in some fashion, and that is what the Devs want to avoid.
Or at least, that is what they say (Or something along those lines).
Either way, suggestions have their own forum for a reason  .

I thought they were going to implement it in the PDA client. If so, get a PDA and wireless card. Problem solved.

For the person who said log on to the game.... I guess you didn't read the second sentence of my original post.
As far as wanting to keep it in game.... If that were the case, I don't see why they'd be developing a PDA client to do such things....
And speaking of the PDA client.... It doesn't exist yet, or you can bet I'd be using it right now. ;)

Because it would be easy for anyone to write a auto update / skill queue tool then.

be really nice for those of us who work alot... All my long skills are good... its the 50+ 15 minute skills I cant train due to my current work schedule hehe

a feature like that would help me out so much...
i have no computer that can run eve online, but i do have web access. how annoying is that.

Oh, you will be able to. Probably more soon than SOONÖ.
Buy a windows mob5 thingy, buy the mobile EVE client that's in testing right now and make MS bigger and fatter.
A client that'd work indepently from an extra MS tax must be really hard to think up.
In the past ccp denied access to the training because they feared opening more ways to get hacked. But MS software is so much more secure than anything else these days ... The devs have shown the beta client at the E3, and the E3-blog have a couple of lines about it too.
For the more tech pilots among us, Chribba had a nice project running on a mobile phone, using a normal computer as a proxy.

They won't make it web thing becuase they could make more money of a PDA app.
Probably charge you extra for it too.
Has nothing to do with you loging on as that just means bandwitdh saved.

I really know nothing about programming and such. But wouldn't changing skillls via web make it easier for hackers to gain account details? As i said i don't know much about it

Set a BS V to train?
Right now I have Caldari BS V, BC V, or Cruiser V to train if need be.
And EVE on a USB drive on a keychain.

Actually, if you check out "In Development" under the Patch Notes button on the left:
Skill Training - Queue or Dual training
Enabling players to either queue so that training takes the next skill level or starts training another skill up another level. Dual training enables you to have a primary long-term skill in training with a secondary short-term skill sharing the training time. After the secondary skill level has trained, the primary skill trains at 100% again.

I will be happy when I can set consecutive skills. Most of my character's skills now take between 3 and 8 hours. Since I play 2-3 nights a week for about 2 hours, each such a skill takes me between 2 and 4 weeks to do.
I'm left with training for Cruiser5 and similar skills while I have many support skills only trained to lvl2. It's pretty annoying...

Dont you know that training times are real time. So set a long skill before logging off, next time you log on it s finished.
One of the major advantages of the system imo.

That seems to essentially fix the "there isn't a skill long enough for my absence" problem. Good stuff.

Skill queueing is planned, it's happening. The web interface - not quite, but the mini-client is one step away from it. I wonder if you can emulate a smart phone on a PC and run the client?

agree with the original poster
ive been a player in eve since beta and i plan on playing till the servers drop
unfortunatly i cant always be home to train on my desktop and my laptop will not handle eve's client as its mostly for buis applications
also my home comp just took a crap on me froma nasty trojan
so unless im willing to trust a friend to train my account
im stuck till i can replace my home computer
even tho i still have web acess through my laptop
and all that would be needed to counter a remote skill que
script is a visual confirmation of a random posted word like when you sign up for a forum or such

My internet connection took a dump, which is why I can't access it. So all the things of VNC, etc won't work. My laptop is a mac, and so no eve for it. I don't see how web skill training makes things so much easier than logging in (other than the fact that you can do it from computers that eve won't run on). You'd still have to log into the game to go buy skills and put them in in the first place. Seems the skill "queue" would do a lot more towards making it easier for character farmers and such than just letting us adjust training through the web.

which not all companies allow, alot will be locked down and will require changing firewall access which I highly doubt any company's IT would do. VNC is also very much depedant on a correctly setup network/IP assignment. Which not everyone can do, me being one of those, my home one is fudged =P.
As an easier but def non playable one, take a look at www.logmein.com. They have a free version which is more then suff to change skills etc.. It just utilizes your web browser, just like surfing a website so if you have internet access u can use it.
