Edited by: Emily Spankratchet on 06/08/2006 14:20:57 I hope the Goons haven't gone. They brought something new and interesting to EvE. Then BoB decided to steamroller them, and managed to get all sanctimonious about it as a little bonus. It'll be a sad day if BoB's avowed aim of removing them from the game entirely is realised.
As for the movie, I get a rather mixed message from it. I guess we'll have to wait and see. If their future mirrors their recent past, what actually happens will be completely obscured by smack and pointless argument on all sides.
Edit: I can't type, dammit.

If the guys in goonswarm like the game they'll stay, if they don't adios...
The great thing about eve is that for the most part another player can hold you accountable for your actions. Goony leadership made some very big mistakes, ****ed off the wrong people and got owned it happens and you deal with it.

I hope not. Goons have been a breath of fresh air to the EVE community. They've certainly rallied the forum warriors.
EDIT: where did my post go? Ah, there it is.

Why is BoB stupid? As someone already said .. ruling empty space is kinda boring, won't you say that? Having noone around to push and torture - what kind of kingdom is that?

If they left, then they left, how they came. They are a big community and I suppose it's not that everyone of them was really 'addicted' to the game.
Swarm seems to be the right word. A few people started it on the SA forum and many followed their 'mates' and now it got troublesome and the swarm moves on except the people, who like EVE so much that they want to stay.

Actually, we quit because we got bored, like when lightning strikes as you're saving a game at just before the final boss on "random Jrpg #201" and rather than play through everything again you just decide it's time to move on. See also: Urban Dead and Warring Factions, except the people in Nexus war didn't cheat to my knowledge, whereas we had people cheating out the wazoo to destroy DARIS and "Whatever Tubesock had decided to name our empire that day". I dunno, I didn't play it that much, so they might have cheated in nexus war.

Right so if im correct, GS made it possible for noobs to live in 0.0 and fight wars etc. But BoB shot the (...) out of them, alot of whining and smack talking occured. And then we got to the point GS are leaving the game or what?

Well, you're not correct on most of the points in your post.
Goons did indeed make it possible for new players to jump straight into 0.0, and indeed to fight wars.
However BoB were initially (and really for the entire existense of goon swarm up until a couple of weeks ago) if not supportive then mildly amused at their antics. The way the invaded Cloud ring and forced D2 into a POS war to root them out again gave many a chuckle to our enemies :)
Howver the smack talking and trash talking and sheer stupidity and crassness of a very vocal minority of the Goon Swarm players eventually started to impact on more people than just the ones in local with them, and their complete disregard for the "Eve community" managed to irritate even more.
The Goons were com[pletely unwilling to rein in, discipline or in any way control their members. And as they put it, why should they?
Well the answer it wouldappear is that if you don't then eventually enoughpeople get annoyed that you lose all supprt you may have gained, and then you start agining enemies instead.
Due to a series of events that really do not need repeating again BoB went from an inulgent and amused bystander to an implacable enemy, this coupled with the Goons eviction from Cloud Ring, and the wholesale desrtion of all their allies apart from merc corps getting paid to fight, basically drove Goons out of 0.0 into empire.
Personally I doubt very much that they have quit, or that wholesale cancelling of acounts has happened. Some probably have gone but I reckion most will be back sooner or later. Eve has a way of addicting a person :)

The idea of Goonfleet was a great one & one I hope someone else takes up if the Goons are indeed gone. I fear the combination of an ambitious leadership & some immature minors did it in for them though.
Remedial's taking the Swarm into Cloud Ring, while amusing & impressive, could never have feesably achieved its conquest against D2 & thier Northern allies. Swarms of T1 ships can only achieve ao much.
More importantly however, was the inability for a small number of Goons to keep their mouths shut. They would have lost eventually to D2 in Cloud Ring. But it was this smack from them that meant thier "safehaven" of Syndicate & S-U were full of waiting BOB camps. Thus an already disorganised retreat from XCH (or whatever that system is called) became a horiffic rout back to empire.
I hope this isnt the end of the Goons. But if & when they return I hope they have learnt the lessons if these past weeks. Dont become too big for your boots & dont insult powerful ppl who live next door to you :-). _______________________________________________ The above comments & views do not reflect the opinions of Cosmic Odyssey or Chorus of Dawn; just those of an enlightened member |

I didn't think the comment about the relative costs of tech1 vs tech2 was either arrogant nor pretentious. The truth of the matter is that I can buy 2 HACS for the price of one Battleship. That gives me a different perspective than those who have the situation reversed. It costs me less to lose a HAC than to lose a BS, and so I am more willing to fly them in to combat.
Also, you can only lose what you fly, and I don't see many Goon HAC fleets tbh.

Actually Avon, according to your statistics you've only flown a HAC into combat 4 times, you much prefer T2 BCs, BSs and AFs. It could be me reading the numbers wrong, perhaps you could ask DB Preacher to help me interpret the statistics?

Edited by: Captain Thunk on 07/08/2006 14:38:09 When he said he can buy 2 hacs for the price of 1 battleship - I looked up his stats just out of curiosity to see how many he'd got through. He's only ever used a deimos 4 times and a Battleship 34 times - so if these stats are true why is he saying he's more willing to fly his Deimos into combat than his Megathron when he clearly doesn't.
(I do believe him on the price though, he probably just sells his HACs)
Maybe he meant Elite BC - that'd make more sense (think he gets confused and has trouble expressing himself sometimes)

he says it costs me less, now perhaps he "wants" to buy a BS instead when he can afford one tech2 fitted and all and tech2 BC's. Thats how I read it.
