Ok, so I was reading some stuff about goonswarm and BoB. Just saw a movie which gave me the feeling goonswarm is gone. Correct me if im wrong...
I also heard some stuff about whats going on, but I really dont know whats happening out there. On the forums there isnt really a story which tells all. What is going on with goonswarm and bob and who ever is involved? People keep talking about it...
Someone can tell it in a few words...? Or redirect me to a topic which opens all doors.

BoB is very stupid alliance and very VERY childish. If BoB dosen't really like someone playing same game as they are, why can't they move? I really like GoonFleet and what Remedy is doing. I hope he can continue his work regardless stupid BoB.

Hmm sad end for the Goon, an alliance I have respect deeply because they prove thaht noobs can kick the ass of veteran fleets! Goons have done a revolution in Eve by doing thath
But...the superpowers like d2 and Bob dont appreciated the affront and destroy them with everything they have. A sad end but its the destiny of all alliance anyways...
The Goons dream was dead but the peoples who understand it will never forget it anyways. The Big ones was happy now...but one day they suffer the same destiny like the great PA or the evil CA....
Bob/ASCN/D2 and the Coalition....your time shall come like all of the great before you! Why? Because all humans empire fall one day or other
And hum...the bad news...you are humans like me and all players here oh well!
Respect forever for the Goon!

The idea of the goons was actually a great one. Newbies going into 0.0 ther first day in the game, and actually competing with the big boys.
And contary to all the spin thats going on, I doubt that anyone actually is specifically attacking goons because they are afraid of the evil noobs becoming as powerfull as the vets.
I think we all know the reasons, though some will never admit it, why everyone and thier brother don't really like goon swarm (and no its not the sig) But its perhaps best if we don't argue about it, since it only turns it into a 16 page spam thread if we do.
But if its the end, and it might very well be, since all I have seen in the last week is an 'every goon for himself' situation, and no real organization. Or at least from the out side looking in. I say best of luck to the pilots who want to play eve, and not somethingawfull in space. And approch your next goal with a little more tact and pose and see where that ends up.

Assuming the OP is assuming correctly and GoonSwarm is somewhat finished (at least for now) I believe this just shows why "the silent majority" of people really are against BoB: They are zealots, priors of their own supremacy. Also just like RA I heavily doubt BoB will never get totally beaten even if the entire EVE universe would turn on them but then again they have already lost the game in the only way that matters, in other people's eyes and minds.
BoB, go ahead. Take all the regions. You can do it and it won't destroy this community any more than your actions already have done so far. ________________________________________________

They only take regions if someone has done all the dirty work for them already. Querious was coming in after 2 sides had beaten each other down, and goonswarm had just been fighting D2 quite ferociously. Not saying BoB isn't strong cause they are, but really haven't seen them in a straight up fight for quite awhile.

Its either a
1. "only kidding" response so BoB start to crow about it so they can try and make BoB look stpid on the forms
2. 2k or how many quit, temp leaving sending harrasment pations saying "Waaahh BoB harrassed us into quiting the game".
3. A subset of goons leaving the game.
4. A temp dissolving of GS to let things calm down before starting again.
But then I don't have a high opinion of the goons and could easily be wrong...
1 would be sneaky, 2 would be very lame and probably make things worse for them (and probably be completly useless), 3 would perhaps be a shame (depends on who goes) and 4 would be thier best bet.
But then again I am pretty cynical ========= "I am not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, but why can`t we just take the safety labels off everything and let the problem fix its self |

I'm not surprised BoB hasn't really gone out for a full engagement taking a region from a strongly capable force. Cause pos warfare atm does seem rather lame and i see why one would want to avoid it if possible. Cause the goonswarm/D2 fight was just a meat grinder in XZH. But i don't think BoB really needs to thump their chest so hard atm cause you guys can't honestly say you've come up against an even opponent for awhile. But really i dunno if you can find an even opponent since most alliances have the habit of napping any entity within 60 jumps.

Edited by: Emily Spankratchet on 06/08/2006 14:20:57 I hope the Goons haven't gone. They brought something new and interesting to EvE. Then BoB decided to steamroller them, and managed to get all sanctimonious about it as a little bonus. It'll be a sad day if BoB's avowed aim of removing them from the game entirely is realised.
As for the movie, I get a rather mixed message from it. I guess we'll have to wait and see. If their future mirrors their recent past, what actually happens will be completely obscured by smack and pointless argument on all sides.
Edit: I can't type, dammit.

The great thing about eve is that for the most part another player can hold you accountable for your actions. Goony leadership made some very big mistakes, ****ed off the wrong people and got owned it happens and you deal with it.

If they left, then they left, how they came. They are a big community and I suppose it's not that everyone of them was really 'addicted' to the game.
Swarm seems to be the right word. A few people started it on the SA forum and many followed their 'mates' and now it got troublesome and the swarm moves on except the people, who like EVE so much that they want to stay.

Actually, we quit because we got bored, like when lightning strikes as you're saving a game at just before the final boss on "random Jrpg #201" and rather than play through everything again you just decide it's time to move on. See also: Urban Dead and Warring Factions, except the people in Nexus war didn't cheat to my knowledge, whereas we had people cheating out the wazoo to destroy DARIS and "Whatever Tubesock had decided to name our empire that day". I dunno, I didn't play it that much, so they might have cheated in nexus war.

Well, you're not correct on most of the points in your post.
Goons did indeed make it possible for new players to jump straight into 0.0, and indeed to fight wars.
However BoB were initially (and really for the entire existense of goon swarm up until a couple of weeks ago) if not supportive then mildly amused at their antics. The way the invaded Cloud ring and forced D2 into a POS war to root them out again gave many a chuckle to our enemies :)
Howver the smack talking and trash talking and sheer stupidity and crassness of a very vocal minority of the Goon Swarm players eventually started to impact on more people than just the ones in local with them, and their complete disregard for the "Eve community" managed to irritate even more.
The Goons were com[pletely unwilling to rein in, discipline or in any way control their members. And as they put it, why should they?
Well the answer it wouldappear is that if you don't then eventually enoughpeople get annoyed that you lose all supprt you may have gained, and then you start agining enemies instead.
Due to a series of events that really do not need repeating again BoB went from an inulgent and amused bystander to an implacable enemy, this coupled with the Goons eviction from Cloud Ring, and the wholesale desrtion of all their allies apart from merc corps getting paid to fight, basically drove Goons out of 0.0 into empire.
Personally I doubt very much that they have quit, or that wholesale cancelling of acounts has happened. Some probably have gone but I reckion most will be back sooner or later. Eve has a way of addicting a person :)

The idea of Goonfleet was a great one & one I hope someone else takes up if the Goons are indeed gone. I fear the combination of an ambitious leadership & some immature minors did it in for them though.
Remedial's taking the Swarm into Cloud Ring, while amusing & impressive, could never have feesably achieved its conquest against D2 & thier Northern allies. Swarms of T1 ships can only achieve ao much.
More importantly however, was the inability for a small number of Goons to keep their mouths shut. They would have lost eventually to D2 in Cloud Ring. But it was this smack from them that meant thier "safehaven" of Syndicate & S-U were full of waiting BOB camps. Thus an already disorganised retreat from XCH (or whatever that system is called) became a horiffic rout back to empire.
I hope this isnt the end of the Goons. But if & when they return I hope they have learnt the lessons if these past weeks. Dont become too big for your boots & dont insult powerful ppl who live next door to you :-). _______________________________________________ The above comments & views do not reflect the opinions of Cosmic Odyssey or Chorus of Dawn; just those of an enlightened member |

I didn't think the comment about the relative costs of tech1 vs tech2 was either arrogant nor pretentious. The truth of the matter is that I can buy 2 HACS for the price of one Battleship. That gives me a different perspective than those who have the situation reversed. It costs me less to lose a HAC than to lose a BS, and so I am more willing to fly them in to combat.
Also, you can only lose what you fly, and I don't see many Goon HAC fleets tbh.

Actually Avon, according to your statistics you've only flown a HAC into combat 4 times, you much prefer T2 BCs, BSs and AFs. It could be me reading the numbers wrong, perhaps you could ask DB Preacher to help me interpret the statistics?

Edited by: Captain Thunk on 07/08/2006 14:38:09 When he said he can buy 2 hacs for the price of 1 battleship - I looked up his stats just out of curiosity to see how many he'd got through. He's only ever used a deimos 4 times and a Battleship 34 times - so if these stats are true why is he saying he's more willing to fly his Deimos into combat than his Megathron when he clearly doesn't.
(I do believe him on the price though, he probably just sells his HACs)
Maybe he meant Elite BC - that'd make more sense (think he gets confused and has trouble expressing himself sometimes)

he says it costs me less, now perhaps he "wants" to buy a BS instead when he can afford one tech2 fitted and all and tech2 BC's. Thats how I read it.
edit; So the point is about ISK comparing BoB and Goons.

Yep, I've reread the post and I'm clear now.
Avon is more willing to fly HACs than any other ship into combat - but wait! - he defies his gut instincts and preferences and hops into a battleship instead - even though he could buy 2 HACs for that 1 battleship, this is his way of making combat more interesting and expensive for himself - it's all about the Eve Risk Vs Reward you see?
Glad we've clarified this guys, man I feel dumb about that.

I'm quite sure Avon has more than 1 combat character in BoB, so looking at just that characters stats means nothing. In the same way just because this char can't fly Mega's doesn't mean I wouldn't pwn you from 200 km in one

What I was actually saying is that I am more willing to fly HACs than those who pay more than a BS for them, rather than I am more willing to fly a HAC than a BS - you just misinterpreted my rather plain English. You know, all you guys who jumped all over Thunk just made yourselves look like complete *******s. Amazing how Avon here can read the message and see it is really non threatening, and respond in a civil and even humorous way. Where as the rest of you got your panties all twisted over a simple question. And you wonder why people like to jump on the "all the big alliences are rude jerks" bandwagon.
Maybe if you guys took a moment to "THINK" about your replies you could word them in such a way as to not come across as total ****s. Yes, being nice on the internet takes effort. Being a jerk doesn't. Please put in the effort...

To be fair, Thunk does kinda set himself up for replies like that .. it is what he does, he is a troll. Also, some of the replies before mine contained their own little nuggets of truth, but I'll maintain the mystery as to what they might have been.
