I've played Eve on and off and havent really done any missions since the old pre-Exodus level 3s. Since then, I've mostly trained Amarr (focussed on Armor tanking and 11m in Gunnery) and stuff for PVP but now I'm considering trying some level 4 missions (I have Caldari state standing somewhere above 8 so it'll probably be Caldari corps I run with).
So anyway, I was wondering if my average Caldari skills would be any use for flying a Raven into level 4s.. I have
* Caldari BS 4 * 2.5m in Missiles (and only Cruise/Torps 4 so no spec) - pretty much all at 4 except Missile Launcher Op, Heavy missiles and Rockets which are at 5 * Shield Op 5 but rest are neglected - Shield Management 4, Shield Upgrades 4, Tact Shield Manip 4. * AWU 4 * Can use T2 small and medium drones (I mainly use Hammerhead IIs) or plain old T1 heavies.
The supporting cap skills are at level 5.
Would this be reasonable for most level 4s? I am kind of hoping to avoid training Missiles or Shields much further as I am going to continue training in other areas for gunnery-based PVP but, if really necessary, I could slot cruise or torp 5 into my training queue.
I'm not going to take up mission-running as a career, just something else to do now and then. Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Edited by: Tone''Def on 06/08/2006 02:32:35 Welcome back! I'm running a bit lower in SP than you (no tech II drones yet, for example), and I do many of the lvl 4 missions. There are a few to avoid, such as "In the Midst of Deadspace" with its tedious treks between gateways and mind-numbing spam in some of the rooms. The mission database pages are a huge help: EVE Info's Mission Database Johann's Kill Missions page
There are clearly a few lvl 4s to avoid doing solo early on: Right Hand of Zazzmatazz- ouch Worlds Collide In the Midst of Deadspace Angel Extravaganza The Spy Stash Mordus Headhunters - check the lastest thread about that, and take a look at this in-game screenshot, yow: So this is what 1400 DPS looks like huh?
Some say Silence the Informant should be avoided, but I've soloed that twice now in a Raven without much problem. Big hint- get that nasty pack of three elite parasite drones near the gateway playing with your drones while you take them out. I've only lost 3 hobgoblins in two missions with that tactic- believe me, you don't want to take all three elite parasite drones on at one time. Between the three of them they dole out about 600 DPS thermal and kinetic, and each has 8500 shield and armor to chew through before getting to structure.
There are some recent threads about which missions were changed since the last update- they also have some great information on getting set up. Thread Linkage Thread Linkage

I'm less skilled than you in most areas - I can do T2 drones, but my cruise, BS and shield skills are all one level less than yours.
I've managed to do a lot of the lvl4 missions in a T1-fitted Raven (some named but no faction mods). Look at some of the resources in the post above, be careful doing a mission for the first time and you'll be fine.
I've even done Mordus Headhunters, although that took about 5 warp-outs to complete. I think I'll wait a little while before trying it again.

Yeah, lvl4's shouldn't be a problem for you, but you're on the fine line of loosing a ship if it doesn't go perfectly.

My one peice of advice while you get used to the level 4s would be to fit a warp stabber, its a life saver when things go ****-up (tm)

TBH, I've never been scrambled in any mission so far. Even when half a dozen scrambling frigates were orbiting me, I was always able to warp out. It might be that I'm only extremly lucky, but warping out multiple times with scrambling frigates and not being scrambled is something like 1 % probability. -----------------------------------------------

You should be fine. As long as you have T2 drones to kill scram frigs and spiderdrones, you will not have any issues. The 130 or so mil gisti Shieldbooster is the best buy ever for lvl4s, havent warped out since.
Also, T2 torps speed things up quite a bit, but you really shoulod be fine as it is.

I have less skills than that and I have been doing level 4's for a long time. Sure, there are some I can't finish in the little time I have some days, but I'm fairly confident there are only a few I actually can't take given time...
I'm fed up with the crazy drone aggro so I've turned to two large graviton smartbombs to deal with scrambling frigates. I enjoy seing them putting the webb and scram on me and then just going boom ;)

The only thing about lvl 4 Vengance is *****ing the tank on the overseer. that and the sentries. but other than that just aggro smart and manage your drones well and you're all set ---------------------------------------
