My Jump Drive Operation skill was at 30 seconds untill level five, and I decided to click on the dreaded 'abort training' button. Its only a few months of training, nothing to worry about.
OK, so maybe i dont have Jump Drive Operation . So maybe it was training mechanic from level 1 to level 2 that I did abort training... Anyway, the point is, if you use abort trainging, you dont lose skill points.
At one point everyone thought that tomatoes were poisonous. Then one guy tried it, and everyone thought he would die, only he didnt. I think skill abortion works the same way...

No... I think abortion has been proven to be effective at killing. (;

When you abort the training of a skill , it sometimes has a chance of losing all progress and being set back to original amount before training it. Test it on more skills, and then post what you find.
Your Mega Afocal Pulse Maser I perfectly strikes Asteroid (Veldspar) [R0ME], wrecking for 798.3 damage.
Your 425mm Railgun I perfectly strikes Guardian Captain, wrecking for 685.9 damage.

Experience for me has been stopping training to switch can result in the loss of skill points.
In the past this may not have been an issue, but a recent patch supposedly has made it to where there is loss when a skill is switched.
This could have both positive and negative effects. I can see it as something to make higher levels skills rarer, as they would require a time commitment many are not willing to give. Previously, we could set long duration skills to train while we were logged off and then switch to short duration skills during play time. Obviously, it will be harder to maximize training time but if it is an across the board effect I do not see a big problem.

Aborting skills has always cause loss of current training and recently switching training does the same thing. Is this an attempt to force implant tech on us ?? After putting 50-100mil worth of non-removable tech in your head who would then dare leave a station?? Get podded and its a big hit in the pocketbook and no way to guard against it because its nonremovalble and it doesn't come back with your clone. With the current lag trap exploit becoming so common now and .4 space totally accessible to PK's what a hugh risk.

can i stll swear on the forum? i ******* dident see this change anounced. i have the habit of changing training a skill when im online. long ones when im at wok earning money to pay eve ( whell a little bit more of course); short ones when im online this is now shot to hell and beyond
hmm, maybe there is hope : do the trained skill points get transferred somhow?
i trained a short skill, aborted it and those point give the impression to be added to the long one which i started after the short one.
maybe ofcourse its the port talking.
Eve is the best game to get plastered with

I have seen skill points drop back when switching to another skill. However, I think this is only a graphical error. If I switch back to the original skill, the skill points are displayed correctly.

I never lose skill points. Never have and don't now. Not sure what you're all referring to. I've done it tons of times.

Edited by: Veruna Caseti on 09/10/2003 23:00:06 Just tested it again right this second.
Don't "switch" skills, abort first. Always works fine for me - sometimes it "looks" like I have lost a few points, but it always goes right back to where I left off when I start training it again.

I never lose points either.
I did notice that when you abort, the points get reset back to the beginning of the level (8000 or something) but then they jump back up to what I had trained. Or sometimes they stay at 8000 but if I close and reopen the char sheet, it displays the 40,423 I had trained.
So I don't know. |

Switching to another skill has NEVER cause me any loss of skill points
Switching to another skill has a FEW times caused me to appear to loose skill points, UNTIL i started training that skill again.
Aborting a skill MAY cause loss of skill points

I just started a new skill as well, since the completion of Drone Interfacing 4 was scheduled to complete into a long weekend that I will be AFK due to the server downtime. I started another skill, and went back to the Drone skill, and it retained the skill points fine.
Can we get an official statement here?

Maybe I should add my experiences to this thread as well.. I have aborted skills a few times. Sometimes I get to keep the skillpoints, and other times they reset back to the same level as when I started training it.

Edited by: Jideo on 17/10/2003 15:02:33 Edited by: Jideo on 17/10/2003 15:01:43 Losing skill points (from switching or aborting) is just an illusion, at least for me. Sometimes switching or aborting will cause the skill to display back to some previous number, however if you resume training again, it will display the correct number.

The last 2 skills I recently changed over, one lost a large chunk of the points the other retained all of them. The moral of the story is if you change part way through you may lose some or all the points or maybe you won't. Do you fee lucky....?

When you start training a skill 2 thing shappen:
First you get 2% per level of learning skill the amount of skill points required to train to the next level automatically added to the skills point total.
Second you receive an amount of skill points relevent to the primary and secondary attributes that skill needs to train (I don't know the values here sadly) which gives you a total bonus of X skill point son top of what you already had. The rest is then accumulatted at the standard training rate.
IF you abort a skill then those skill points are removed from the total points for that skill (so you don't keep aborting and restarting skills to level up quickly) which gives the impression that you have lost skill points. Those points will return when you start training the skill again.
It is not a graphical bug it's just the way skill training works. The description of attributes and learning lowering training time is a bit misleading, they improve the skillpoint boost you receive when training which as a result reduces skill training time overall.

Instead of aborting just train a diff skill. Then when the new skill starts training, abort it. I've lost points by aborting but never by training a different skill. Maybe they fixed the bug, but I will always train a diff skill prior to aborting. ------------- RUS / RUA RUSSIAN Team
