Hi there i have set up a few frigs to try out tackling with web/scram etc was wandering whets the best way to go about it is it just :- Warp to tartget hot the mwd at orbit best distance and hit the mods while gang members pound him withe the bigger ships.

That's about it. But you want to maximize your own survivability as well, which includes orbiting the target at 500m at high speed.

Depends on what you're fighting.
Some ships tend to use webs fairly often. You will get to know which ships (such as Ruptures) tend to mount webs, and you will learn to stay outside of 10km. If you get webbed, you die.
Also, you need to learn what range different ships tend to operate at. Whilst orbitting a Tachyon armed Armageddon at 500m is an awesome idea, orbitting a dual 180mm armed Stabber is not. For those, you'll want to stay as close to 20km, if you're fitting 20km scrams, as you can. You'll learn to play it safe with some ships, and you'll learn when to run or adjust your tactics when something unexpected happens.
Also, you need to learn to approach. Getting there is half the fight. If a rail Megathron is 100km away from you, hit your approach button and he'll toast you in a couple of shots. However, click in space so you approach him at a 30 degree angle, and he'll struggle to hit you.
All these things are very condensed concepts. They dont all just apply to tackling either, they apply to piloting in general. I can;t stress enough; practice, practice, watch other people do it, and practice.

Why ? At 500m you have the following love to contend with.
#Slower transversal due to reduced speed in tight orbit #Smartbombs #Even a small NoS will reach you

Transversal at 500m isnt worth worrying about, You shouldnt be worrying about damage.
Smartbombs are rare, and if they do have one bad luck.
And most decent tacklers fit a nos aswell, even the measly amount of cap you get from a small nos can keep you alive and tackling for the target to be dealt with, even when the target has a bigger nos than you. ------------

Others have given good advice, all I'll add is this:
Once you are in orbit it is generally better to turn off the mwd. Mwd increases your signature size and makes you much easier to hit. Of course, sometimes you do need to keep the mwd running - you may need to keep away from fast ships or avoid drones etc.

The essence of tackling, is web + scrambler + fast ship to stop a target running. Generally, 1 cycle the MWD to close to scrambling range (if necessary) and orbit so they have trouble hitting you. What orbit to use is very much a question of what you're flying, and what you're facing.
As a general rule, you should be using the tightest orbit you can hold at max velocity, without a MWD (but with an AB if you're using one), to keep your transverse velocity as high as possible.
Factors that influence orbital radii choice other than that: 5.5km is smartbomb range (up to 7.5km for faction smarties) 5km is small nos range 7.5km is scrambler range. 10km is web range 11km is medium nos range. 20km is warp disruptor range. 21km is heavy nos range.
Basically, if you orbit close, they have a harder time hitting you with their guns, and you can nos, use 2 pt scramblers, and webs. Of course, they have an easier time getting you with noses, webs and smartbombs, so it's all a trade off.
Warp disruptors work to 20km, but normal webs don't - they'll be able to fly to a gate/station to escape if you're not quick. Disruptors are weaker than scramblers, and use more fittings and cap though.

Do not MWD straight to the target. With no transversal and high sig even 1400s hit you easily. Fly a tight spiral movement until you are in range. You may lose a sec or two this way, but you will not lose your ship.

tbh dont even bother trying to tackle stabbers and vagas in a frig, hes probably got barrage loaded and will pwn you before you get into scramble range learnt that one the hardway, poor maledictions
