So many things have been nerfed over the years, I've looked around and have not seen a list of what used to be and is no more. So this is another fun thread (for the new and old players) about all things nerfed. Give a discription of something that's been nerfed, how whatever it was worked, etc.
I'll start off with a couple of things.
Cruise and Torps in smaller launchers
You used to be able to put cruise missiles into std launchers and torps into heavy launchers. It allowed for things like the cruise missile kestrel and crow (My first level 5 skill was missile launcher op 5) and the torp blackbird/caracal. There are still a few left on the server. Pretty obvious why they were nerfed.
Mines
Mines used to be objects that could be dropped in space and when you got to close to them, they'd go off. They did almost no damage alone, but when stacked with 100's to 1000's of others, they could insta pop a battleship. I do seem to recall a limit as to how many you could deploy, but to get around that you'd log off and back on. They were also an effective missile screen. They were nerfed due to lag and you were able to kill people from many jumps away.
Dumb missiles with spalsh damage
Missiles used to be the hardest weapon in the game to use. When you'd shoot a missile, they would hit anything in their path, be it a station, stargate, or friend. (I've been blown up a number of times by friendly fire). Torps used to have a splash damage to them like a smartbomb. Torps were rare in gangs because the splash damage would kill other missiles and reduce the DPS of the gang. The splash damage would also sometimes instapod. Nerfed for obvious reasons.
MWD's
Used to be able to throw on a couple of MWD's on a ship and go stupid speeds. Before my time you were able to put up to 8 MWD's on a scorp and go a couple of AU a sec. You'd have allot of duel MWD ravens flying about that were just about unkillable.
Feel free to add more.

Drones, one funny thing that they used to do, was engage at any range and once you were engaged by them, they'd keep shooting at you (and hitting) no matter how far away you got. Example, inty gets shot at by heavy drones (before drones had tracking) and duel MWD's 200k away from the drones, they'd still be hitting you from 200k away.
Someone do one on guns before tracking. I was never into guns.

Low sec pirating:
-First they added sentry guns (60km range) -Then increased the range to 150m (Without telling anyone) -Then added flagging (without telling anyone)
then the biggest nerf of all.... Level 4 missions

Edited by: Ethidium Bromide on 08/08/2006 11:48:15 PULSE LASERS used to have the same range as beams but less dmg mod
NPC CONVOYS you could make a living from popping npc haulers in empire space, they dropped decent ammounts of loot that you could either sell right back to the faction or sell on the market. only station sentries of the same faction would shoot you (don't know if that still works)
also with MWDs back in the days they were 1-size-fits-all same with afterburners
and for low sec pirating: you did not enter the system at a gate the were so called jump in points (JIP) somewhere in the system that were usually infested with lots and lots of pirates (lost 2 pods in sarum prime (0.4 back then) on my first day in eve ) _________________________________ just because you are not paranoid doesn't mean i'm not following!

Man I used to love diving behind asteroids to avoid rockets, that felt so much more "real" wish they would put that back.
I remember once I fired some torps at a hostile in an empire war (from my black bird) and warped off to the station. Meanwhile unbeknownst to me the target has also warped of , my torps flew on with nothing to hit till they detonated...... just as some random guy dropped out of warp right into the splash damage.
I got CONCORDed to hell with no idea why lol.

The cap penalty made it impossible to even activate all 8.
Sentry guns When exodus hit, a single raven could hardly tank them. Corp mate almost lost his ship while trying his usual thing.
Systems raised in sec status Several systems were low sec but after a patch they were 0.5 and ppl undocked while being outlaws (-5 and worse) and instantly lost their ships.
Smartbombs You could kill jet cans with them.
WCS They used to be a mid slot item.

Battleships uberness:
A dozen frigs at 20km? crush them with 3 large guns volleys.
Heavy drones being near instant death to any frig, hitting them well at close range, and even very long range once they had begun to fire.
Frigs blasted just by 2 torps.
Weird 0.0 spawns.
That was my first visit to a 0.0 belt. I was in a tristan, with 3 budies in not-that-well fitted battleships. Saw a spawn of about a dozen black thoraxes. Got my butt handed to me with their first missile salvo. 60 seconds later, one battleship down, and the other 2 running for their lives.

Edited by: Sandra Tseng on 08/08/2006 12:05:42 The old "HP-status indicator" of locked ships was pretty cool.
A blue circle around the ships indicateing shields. As the shields dropped the "donut" shaped blue ring shrunk and revealed a red circle underneath it indicating armor, which in turn shrunk as armor took damage and eventually ship popped ;]
I think I have some old screenshots of that
[Edit: Oh and I remember when the Kestrel was released and it was a turret ship! I have screenies of a Kessie with railguns all over it.! Oh! and when they messed up once in Beta and /by accident I guess) Made the HERON the UBER friggie ;] - everyone bought Herons and then they changed them back]

Dual 425mm 'scout' Artillery I
Can't Remember the stats exactly but these things were the win. They are now called the 650mm 'scout' Artillery'.
Invulnerability Field
40% to all resists, not much cap use, no stacking penalty. Invincible ships.
Surgical Strike
Used to affect damage mods aswell, it would increase the bonus they gave substantially. I remember the damage mod increase of a tech1 gyro going from 1.07 to 1.23 I think? Can't quite remember.
Bistot & Arkonor
Used to be all over empire in the low sec systems.
Cap relays
Used to give reduce the shield recharge speed instead of shield boost amount. In the time when armour tanking was pointless you would see apocs going round with lows full of these and a shield tank.
That's all I can think of.

space bowling, do a warp gang and half the people get bumped 100km away from the instajump.
borked gang invite, working only half the time and you had to relog.
roid farming, keeping them alive would make them regrow faster.

Damage Mod Stacking + Chaining
In the second month of the game or so, I owned a Megathron, one of the first. The awesome setup was 7 Modal Heavy Neutron Blaster I's & lows full of Magnetic Vortex Stabilizer I's, with an autotargeter. I sat 8km from the spawn point in a belt and nuked NPCs til my brain exploded, all the while keeping one NPC shooting me. Of course, the biggest spawn then was 2 50k cruisers and 3 45k cruisers. After 15 minutes or so of this, the respawn rate would increase, up to the point of it being instant. You needed haulers in the belt with you constantly picking up cans/delivering ammo. After doing this for a month straight and becoming "rich," I got bored of the game and quit :D
Big Quantity NPC spawns I liked these a lot. You could find 10+ NPCs in a belt. It was a true challenge at the time. We used to hunt with 2 megathrons and a Scorpion, and still die. At some point CCP decided it would be better to have smaller overall spawns with bigger NPCs. It is cake now.

When tracking wasn't an issue and 1400's were getting good hits on just about everything. This was changed about 2 weeks after I was first able to use them.
When there were no scan probes and people left expensive ships in safespots. Safespots that could still be busted by someone with half a brain and a dual/triple mwd intie.

That was before there was a cap penalty, they added that to keep people from fitting 8 of them at a time (but 3 MWD's were okay)
Afterburners used to be useless.

shield tanking:
Cap power relays didnt sued to effect shield boosters boost amount.
caldari ships:
Used to all have 10% to hybrid range per level. This includes the raven and the caracal.
Concord:
Used to be an if and when, not the ultimate pwners of doom they are now. You also used to be able to fight back.
Instas:
some people used to not have them =/
Drones:
Recentish change, but drone interfacing used to be +1 drone control per level.

hey hey
more than 5 drones in space.
missiles pre all the changes but after splash damage. they were perfectly fine.
precisions actually did as intended . . .
projectiles dont use cap <- glad thats back :))
the old industry/factory system was alot more user friendly and better imho.
L3 was actually hard and was balanced in terms of risk/reward.
agent offers PRE LP
rockets/missiles having uber range.
L4 created the longrange sniper setups as this was the w1n for L4 missions, ive been sad ever since.

I remember the old bug where you would get bumped millions, if not billions, of au away from eveything, if your ship made contact with a container while anchoring it. Many stuck petitions resulted from that as people ended up in places it would have taken weeks to get back from, even at warp speed.
