10k dollars worth of gtc gets 60 billion isk? WoW that doesnt seem like much for your money :) I dont think many people would be doing this though out of the 100k or whatever subscribers and tbh some people get a t2 bpo worth 90bil isk and they dont even have to pay for it so i dont think a few people being uber wealthy affects the game much except that the limited number of t2 bpo allows them to control the market .

Originally by: Moghydin Very rich ppl usually don't have time for computer games, and they are usually obsessed with other things than building virtual business empires and buying non-existant property. So, I don't believe that it's some rich businessman, trying to be uber in Eve. Most likely it's someone's business. $10000 is a huge amount of ISK, more than enough to acquire things in game that will help to generate ISK without buying it with RL money. So, most likely, it's someone's business (money laundering seems a possibility). Is it legal, we don't know, but we know that something stinks there.
If I was really rich, I would so play EVE, hell I could quit my job and play EVE all day, and it would be far more fun to build a virtual empire with Spaceships. Though if I was super ultra mega rich then I would try and make a SpaceEmpire in real life. _______

Even if this was true, does it matter?
If one thinks ability to buy ISK (as is legal through sanctioned GTC market) is bad he should protest to CCP, not worry about individual sellers.
The only important question is; does the individual somehow hurt the game itself, the economic balances and such? More than the allowing buyers to break the Hierarchy of Achievement as GTC sale does.
Who cares if he is a terrorist laundering money? Or if he gets middle-man profit by reselling those ISKs. Neither would change anything for the game itself.
IMHO, an individual buying a lot of GTCs (and then selling them for RL money) would be more worrysome, since that would tend to break the economic balance within the game (by allowing some people to treat Eve as a work instead of game).

i've heard of some muppet who sold about $3,200 worth of gtc to buy a carrier or mothership...
there are crazy ppl you know... on the other hand, it's not that hard to imagine he's either reselling the isk or indeed using ilegally obtained money...

People care about this, if you don't then step away. It is irregular. This is a discussion board.
Seems logical that people pick up on irregular things to discuss on a discussion board doesn't it?

Sounds like a drug dealer (or the like) looking to hide his tracks...
I thought eBay ISK was cheaper than going straight up GTC's?
If so, he can't be doing this for profit, but simply to cover his/her tracks...

I'm surprized to see how many ppl defend ISK sellers. 1-st of all, we are in discution forum and not in a court of law. We don't need to prove anything beyond any reasonable doubt. No one will be executed, sentenced or convicted because of what we post here. Most likely, no one will even get banned. So, stop with all those no proof - no post thing. It's a place to discuss things and that's what we do.
2-nd. yes, I'm very concerned that someone is cheating in game, even if the cheat is endorsed by CCP. We are at the same server and are playing by the same rules. Unfortunately we don't have GTC free-zone server. I don't want to be a part of the game, where there's a RL wallet peen contest. Even now, you have to use more than 1 acct to keep up with powergaming types, and massive ISK buyers/sellers won't add much fun to the game. Why should I be concerned is very simple. Let's say, we are at war, we lose ships. We have to pay ISK to replace ships or modules. We go ratting, trading or doing any other in-game activity to get that ISK. It takes time, we can't do any other things while we're doing this. It affects the war effort. Other side loses ships, but instead of using in-game method to replace ships, they sell GTC's en-masse. Insta ISK, ships are quickly replaced, no need to disrupt war. War is won.

The real issue here is whether CCP as an morally ethical business or not. If they want to be ethical, they'd care about where the money they get is coming from and what it all leads to. They'd need to investigate this case. Otherwise, who cares if it's dirty money, blood money, as long as it's coming their way it's all good.

I know that, but it's sad that (assuming that it's not a business) ppl actually feel the need to cheat in order to be successfull in game and spoil the game for those who try to play fair.

Actually, who all did so? Most I saw was defending this individual GTC seller, and some comments akin that re-selling doesnt make the problem worse.
I fully agree with you that being able to buy ISK with RL money is bad (partially for the reasons you stated). I'll highly applaud you if you figure a (not-too-expensive) way to prevent such sales.
Then again, I can understand why CCP did saction GTC sales. It was mostly like "Hey, now that we already got this drug war at hand..how about if goverment started selling methadone and other drug substitutes?". That is, doing something bad to fix even more evil situation.
Perhaps we as players ought to despise GTC sellers, thought not so sure if that is a viable course anymore.

He could just be the 'buyer' for a large alliance, just because its one character doesnt mean only one person is behind the selling itself. These things need trust and if your new to the 'business' of selling GTC's you wont get as much business as the person who's successfully sold 100's.
My point being if you had a large corp you could just use one alt for everyone to get isk through, instead of doing it all separately with alot more effort.

Yes, because a large alliance of players are pitting all they're money together to buy timecodes enmasse and sell them for isk, and the person they decide to put in charge of the most important part of all of it? The person who speaks english so bad that hes probably using a free online translator service.

What are you, a child? Many people have $10,000, the only people who dont are either children or live in a poor part of the world. Seriously, that is the kind of thing only a kid would say.
Actually i cant stop laughing about what you said, do you honestly believe there are many people in this world who would waste $10,000 on buying isk?

vadmarr u have had about 10 threads moderated by CCP so far - do u have a beef with this toon ?
I support removing macro miners and *****ing down on ebayers as well as closing any loopholes in the GTC system but u seem to be on a one man war using an alt against the whole thing
Im assuming there is some motivation but im guessing youre oging to get a forum ban soon enough if u keep going

Originally by: Vadarr Mann 1. I think that you are unable to imagine what kind of different things rich people do with their money. They might even enjoy EVE that much so they use RL money to gain isk. Besides that your point about wealth being connected to how good someone speaks english is plain racist. Or stupid. Which is the same anyway.
Originally by: Vadarr Mann 2. Hes getting the isk so that he can sell it back at a profit on ebay or a isk selling website, the more likely assumption.
Which is spoken with an outside view completely fine.
Now from a gamer's perspective CCP should closely monitor the GTC sales and sellers. Not only for the sake of ingame balance but also in regards to helping criminals to "wash" "dirty" money (no idea if there is a special english expression for that).
But we don't want to be to optimistic. In the end CCP is still a business and money rules the world. CCP and hence EVE are part of that world. |

Its not about the one guy mining to get some free Eve quality time, its about wrecking a nice game.

If it were down to me, which it isn't (just a suggestion), make it so that if you want GTC for isk you buy them from CCP, and if you want isk for GTC you buy them from CCP also, from the pool of isk from the first option. This keeps the isk in game and at the same time puts a certain amount of automated monitoring in place. Then make it so that players cannot directly sell GTC for isk or isk for GTC from other players. Might be an admin' nightmare, might not even work, on an automated level or otherwise, just a suggestion.
