Yes. Open the door already. There is fun to be had on the other side.
It was announced at PAX Australia that the first multiplayer avatar areas to be opened in Star Citizen will be the social ones, and they are slated to be delivered next year.
It's annoying that CCP once dreamed of becoming an ultimate sci simulator, failed to deliver, and now a competitor is coming in to deliver what CCP cannot.
Fortunately the avatar stuff in EVE (what little there is) still looks far superior to what is currently in star citizen (especially the player characters), CCP still has a competitive advantage that they can capitalize on, should they choose to.
Given that CCP is more than willing to devote an entire development studio to a game that they would eventually abandon (World of Darkness). I think it is stupid that they won't assign a few devs to enriching their current game with station interiors.

Except of course, players ARE spending money on clothing items according to the CSM minutes.
This is despite the currently limited functionality of the captains quarters.

Oh. And meanwhile Star Citizen demonstrates a ship docking with a derelict station which players explore with their avatars.
Gun fights and zero gravity follow.

Meanwhile Elite dangerous announces its plans to add walking in stations and on planets.
I remember when EVE aspired to be the ultimate sci fi simulator, now other more capable studios are stepping in to do it.

Tu Ko wrote:I'm personally kinda tired of hearing the 'if they don't add walking in stations then..'. No one has even a glimmer of an idea what gameplay element should be placed into WIS that will work with EVE(flying in space). Meeting places is just a tired and kinda pointless version of player housing that doesn't really make sense with the gameplay reality that all your corp mates will be spread daily amongst multiple systems traveling constantly. No one wants to put a combat element into WIS, at least not with actual isk or implants on the line anyway. Only a tiny portion of the playerbase has any interest at all with NPC storylines and trying to 'bring the npc's to life' will cost literal years of work to make happen.
No offence, but there has been a huge number of suggestions for gameplay within stations and derelicts. Including combat.

We don't need a kickstarter. We need CCP to stop putting money into non-existent and failed products (Legion, Dust514, World of Darkness), and stop trying to grab headlines with a VR game with a very limited audience (not many people have headsets).

What I find hilarious is that players are all "but there is are no apparent plans for new gameplay beyond the door", yet meanwhile CCP is planning on allowing us to create gates that lead to space with apparent plans for new gameplay.
Of course there are ideas and possibilities for both, I just find the rhetoric amusing.

CCP should try selling something other than clothing and ship skins for aurum. Like some sort of flair item for capsuleers CQ.
Like some sort of hologram projector that sits on the table and can display some sort of commemorative image. Like carolines star. Or a titan wreck.
I can't help but think they are wasting an opportunity to bring more money in.

CCP has resources that could be spent on WiS, but instead they are choosing to spend those resources on EVE: Valkyrie and (maybe) project Legion.
Time will show if it was a good decision ... either way its a gamble

Speaking of other space games.
I think it's funny that people wail about the processing demands of walking in stations, yet the computing resources for star citizen are much higher.
I can run the captains quarters on my computer and it is smooth as silk. Star citizen currently runs like a slide show on my PC.

The way some players outright reject avatar game play is hilarious. People are throwing money at star citizen with it's ship plus avatar gameplay, and it doesn't even run half as smoothly as the captains quarters.
Personally I think what little we have seen of the station environments in EVE are far more interesting that the ones currently available in Star Citizen. In EVE you can see the cultural influences of the four empires at work, there is a real story behind why the station interiors look the way the day. But in comparison the environments in star citizen are a bit generic despite their higher amount of detail.

I vaguely remember CCP Seagul saying something along the lines that if it does happen it would be in a separate client.
Would be a surprising twist if the successor to Dust514 turned about to be exactly that.

Jack Carrigan wrote:Honestly if they gave you the option to watch the actual news reports, that would be kind of cool.
Furthermore, why not take some of the work being done on the new FPS and put it toward WiS? I mean, you already have people working on people models, so why not utilize it to their advantage.
Unless the new FPS turns out to be a league of legends clone.
