Edited by: nails on 09/10/2003 21:08:20 I was thinking back to a couple old mmog games like Ultima and EQ where there was usually one spot in the universe were everyone would hang out to socialize and meet others in groups. Since EVE has started I have only seen it happen once, and that was during the whole caldari/gallente ring thing in Crielere.
The reason why I state that it is difficult for groups of us to get together in one area is because of what happened in Yulai during Nebulai's Large Secure Container event. Pretty much 1/8th of eve showed up in Yulai to participate in this event, which ended up lagging out the entire system and making it impossible to even move.
I think it would be great if there were a social location somewhere in EVE where people could gather when they have nothing else to do, just to be social and not have to worry about the system lagging out. This is the world of eve so the system would have to be 0.5 or higher of course to keep giant groups of pirates from turning the place into a frag fest. Though it would be equally fun to be there when other corps that are at war happen to run into each other, then everyone gets to watch the fireworks.
That Crielere event even though it didn't really lead to anything was actually one of the most interesting social events I have ever seen in EVE. Since eve is so big we don't get to see each other very often, we are usually in random belts mining or farming, so it's hard to just show up in a system and warp to where everyone else is hanging out.
This is mostly just a thought, but in a game that has very little new things to do these days it might help boost moral a bit for the world of eve.
Here's some old memory lane pics

yes, and in every mmorpg where this takes place(be it Realm, UO, EQ, DAOC, etc) the area these people all herd together in usually becomes a slideshow for those simply trying to get thru the area.
What's stopping you from just creating a chat channel?
Ultima was never that bad, and I played on the Pacific Shard. The point is that there was one. If I wanted to chat with people in a channel I would talk on IRC. We play in mmogs because we don't want to play alone. ------------------

There are games out there that were designed specificly for standing around and socialising. A good example is PSO and Ragnarok. People like to sit around and chat when they have nothing better to do. You might not like to, but that doesn't mean you think the same as everyone else. ------------------

there doesn't need to be a social system, just a decided location somewhere just off the highway or something. Then there would just need to be a specific meeting zone, kinda like Crielere was planet 1. ------------------

Amicus brought up a good point, since it's very difficult to moderate a channel in eve. It would only last as long as the person that started it was on, you can't stop flooding and what not if your sleeping. Since the channels have no chanserv a public no rules channel would be chaotic. ------------------
