As you can probably tell from my horrible spelling attempt at minmitar, I know next to nothing about them, being a caldari missile thrower. I am however starting to think about maybe trying out some minnie ships and would like to know if anyone can recommend anything about weapons and such? From looking at the stats of auto cannons and artillery, I can see that autocannons seem to have similar ranges to blasters, and the same for artilery and rails. Have I missed a stupidly obvious difference between them, and what would you recommend for a minnie noob?

What are you planning to do with the ship?
The general idea is to use artillery for PvE and for fleet PvP, and ACs for close range PvP. ACs chew through ammo like nobody's business and have poor range, so they're not the best choice for PvE. Artillery can't match the DOT of ACs and has absolutely dire tracking, so it's of limited use in short-range PvP.
Obviously there are exceptions but that's a good rule of thumb.

Rather than waffle on over multiple posts and still fail to give you a good picture of what the various Matari ships can do I'd recommend a visit or three to the Scrapheap Challenge website, whose denizens are unflinchingly helpful and knowledgable on all things Minmatar.

Projectiles use no cap is an important difference.

Agreed, I mostly return here due to old habits, like now, but compared this forum is a laugh (so I might still be around for the commedy value).

The Major diferances between Hybrids/Projectiles
Hybrids posibly do slightly more damage (?)
Hybrids track better
Projectiles Don't use cap
Projectile Ammo does a variety of damage types depending on what you choose.

Hybrids do more damage then projectiles. It's part of the reason why Tempest has 2 damage bonuses, to compensate. Without 2 damage bonuses AC dps is not very good(with both damage bonuses AcPest will do more damage per turret but since a blasterthron has 7 turrets it turns out bthron does more and has 5 heavy drones vs. 3 + 2 (optional) launchers on pest)

the variety in damage types comes at the cost of total damage unfortunately, emp does less damage then any other -50% ammo(not that it's wrong to have less damage for a 'non-racial' ammo, i'd just rather see ammo like Fusion to be the -50% ammo and not have this gimped damage on ammo, it gets worse the bigger the ammo gets  XL EMP does 8 damage less then others).
