Edited by: Heikki on 10/08/2006 20:31:25 iFAQ (imagined Frequently Asked Questions):
- Why should I participate?
You have extra 10M/100M you don't need that much, but could use 6B (say to buy your own profitable T2 BPO). If you already have lot of ISK, it's probably not good idea to participate (unless your luck attribute is high).
- Can you give an example of a proper buying post?
Sure. Say Xxx first sends 210M to Heikki, then posts (assuming DS has already participated): "210M sent. I pick sets of 1,15 and 1,14 and 5,48,49. Referred by Dark Shiikari".
- Could this be a scam?
Hopefully I have managed to convince you this is not. I have tried very hard to reduce the chances for scamming; being open in transactions, using RL event to decide winner and having trustable entity to back up the event in case there is some foul play.
- What happens if nobody picks the right numbers?
I keep the jackpot and the ISK sent by participants -> my chance for 'win'. It is fair since it allows me to hold the lottery even if I have very few participants.
- What happens if only one 10M ticket is sold and it wins?
The buyer gets the jackpot of 6000M and I lose 5990M. Happens. I am getting used to it.
- What are the chances to win?
With 10M tickets, the chance to win is (6/49 * 5/48 * 4/47) = 1/921.20 With 100M tickets, the chance to win is (6/49 * 5/48) = 1/78.40
- What is the payback ratio?
Statistical payback ratios are 6000M/(921.2*10M)=0.6513 and 6000M/(78.40*100M)=0.765. Including 300M referral bonus, on average from 68% to 80% are paid back to participants (assuming up to a few hundreds participants). This may vary a lot based on luck.
- Uhm, you are likely to profit from this, right?
I sure hope so, although I do have a chance to lose 6280M ISKs. Actually, if 40 say people buy 100M ticket, I am more likely to have netloss than get any profit.
Also should you prefer a game with mostly positive payback ratio, stick on generous BIG Lottery.
- How many tickets I can buy?
As many as you want, in any combinations you want.
- Can I refer to myself?
No. But if you want to bother, feel free to use your alts to achieve that.
- I want to change my numbers, is that ok?
No, too much extra hassle. Only ok in exceptions, after I've given permission, like when you in mistake pick numbers already taken.
- Will there be multiple rounds of this lottery?
Perhaps. If there is interest for it. And if I can afford the extra rounds.
- Can alts or friends/multies of your character participate?
Sure, the system should be pretty much tamper free for such situations. That is, I can't figure what harm it would cause, unless it is very rampant. Neverthless, I promise not to use my (unknown) alts to participate/advertise this.
- Why do you speak of 6 numbers, when there are 7 in the web page?
There are 6 regular and one bonus ball (the last one). The bonus ball is totally ignored and excluded from all countings.
- What is 'a valid participant'?
One that a) has first sent the required ISK to 'Heikki' b) has made an unedited post with properly picked numbers. I'll try to maintain list of such valid sets of taken numbers.
- Can there be multiple eligible winners even when they pick different sets?
Yes, but very unlikely. Lets explore the most probably case, when X picks numbers A and B, while Y picks numbers C and D. The chances that both sets ought to win are like one in 14125 (6/49 * 5/48 * 4/47 * 3/46). So, buy your numbers early.
- I made a mistake, can you refund?
In general no (too much hassle). If it was a major blunder (like sending 1000M instead of 100M), I will refund/correct the situation as seems fair, minus 5M fee to me for the extra work.

This lottery gives you a chance to win SIX BILLION ISKs with very reliable and tamper-free way, without hassle of facing 'lottery cancelled' issues.
The draw is based on real life lottery, and the event is backed up by trustable entities, as described later.
To participate, pick either cheaper 10M tickets, or a bit improved chances with 100M tickets as follows.
10M tickets: - Choose three different numbers from 1 to 49, for example: 4,12,49 - Send 10M to character 'Heikki', a member of Wreckless Abandon corporation. - Post the numbers on this thread, like '10M sent, I pick: 4,12,49 - You may pick multiple sets in a post, one for each 10M sent. - Make sure you do not edit that post. In case of mistake, make a new post - You win 6B if all those 3 numbers are among the six drawn regular numbers (not the bonus ball)
100M tickets: - Choose two different numbers from 1 to 49, for example: 1 and 33 - Send 100M to character 'Heikki', a member of Wreckless Abandon corporation. - Post the numbers on this thread, like '100M sent, I pick: 1,33 - You may pick multiple sets in a post, one for each 100M sent. - Make sure you do not edit that post. In case of mistake, make a new post - You win 6B if both of those 2 numbers are among the six drawn regular numbers (not the bonus ball)
Earn 300M referral reward: - If a valid participant HisName includes phrase 'Referred by YourName' in his ticket buying post, where YourName is the name of an earlier valid participant, YourName will get 5% of what ever HisName wins through that post (or in other words, a 300M bonus).
Rules:
- The lottery runs from Monday 14th 00:01 to Sunday 20th 23:59, Eve times and in this August.
-> ISK sent before the start will participate normally; ISK send after the deadline will be ignored. The couple days grace period before the start allows me to make rule amendments if needed.
- If more than one player is eligible for the jackpot, the owner of the earliest unedited post having the winning numbers gets the pot, others won't get anything.
-> So those participating early, or checking their numbers are not already taken, will have slight advantage.
- The lottery will be held if there is at least one participant
-> Lottery won't be cancelled due lack of required number of participants
- The winning numbers are the six regular numbers in UK National
Lottery, in the first lottery drawn after the deadline (i.e. the draw of Wed 23th August). The bonus ball is not included in this game. Everyone can check the numbers drawn from the Lotto's Draw History page.
See the posts below for iFAQ, informative list of sets picked sofar, and the vouching/insurance post. Should you have any questions the FAQ doesn't seem to answer, please post your questions or feedback on this thread.
Yours, Lasse, player of Heikki&Tudez striving for open and reliable model lottery

The lottery seems to be running well, with over 6 days to the deadline, and some 9 days to the draw. Now that I have a perl script to check the winners (and run simulation rounds), some numbers and notes:
So far 950M worth of tickets have been bought. Or in other words, I have 12% chance to lose 5050M ISK with this venture.
No-one has used the referral program; guess I need to re-plan that part should I run further rounds of this lottery.
Currently there is marginal 0.64% chance of multiple potential winners, in which case only the first one (earliest post/edit) will get the jackpot.
Also, ironically, CallMeNoob picked Set(02,14,29) which was earlier pick of Maltrox. So while legal, CMN has no chance to win with that particular set.
To be fair, can fix this with following options: a) CNB makes a new post akin 'picking Set(1,2,3) to replace the earlier double set as agreed' b) If this situation still persist, after the deadline (and well before the draw) I'll replace CNB's set with some random non-claimed numbers.

As daily bump, some statistics about the most popular numbers so far:
01=2 02=6 03=6 04=3 05=4 06=3 07=5 08=4 09=1 10=4 11=5 12=2 13=4 14=5 15=4 16=5 17=8 18=5 19=5 20=6 21=3 22=6 23=2 24=3 25=4 26=5 27=6 28=6 29=8 30=1 31=7 32=4 33=6 34=3 35=2 36=8 37=1 38=8 39=4 40=1 41=7 42=8 43=4 44=2 45=1 46=1 47=1 48=4 49=5
Considering the thread has had some 2.2k+ views, doubt we are getting that many more participants. Still have to, as per rules, wait those little over week to the draw.
Either I gain reputation of managing to lose bunch of ISK in my own lottery (14% chance to lose 4840M), or someone gonna be happy billionaire. -Lasse

Only one jackpot; so the earlier picker would win. Thats why I keep an ordered list of picked sets; the first one on that list wins. A reason to pick your numbers early..
Anyway, currently the chances for multiple potential winners are about 0.95% (or 1 in 105), so hopefully we never need to ponder this issue.

I think it would be a security risk for the participants. That is, if split winnings were allowed, I could scam part of the ISK back to myself.
A little before the end I would have my alts to 'participate' in the lottery with couple billions, using partly same number as previous customers -> I would have a good chance to win half of the ISK back.
So, I feel the current system (only one big jackpot) is better and safer. As side-effect, it does give minor bonus to early players (=bumbers). Yet, those who would mind the effect, can carefully pick numbers to minimize the effect (i.e. those numbers others haven't played much).

If i pick 3 numbers at 10mill isk and these 3 numbers apear in the 6 i would win 6billion isk?? because there is a 1 in 57 chance of picking 3 numbers and getting them. So 57x 10mill is 570mill investment with a return of 6bill isk??
can someone confirm and sorry if i am wrong.

I would guess you are comparing my odds against the UK's national lotto rules. In that game, you pick 6 numbers, and if 3 of those match 6 official ones, you win that ú10 (and chance is, I think, the quoted 1:57). In this game you only get to pick 3 numbers, with reduces your chances to that 1:921.
If my math wrong (doubt it, I both calculated the chances and wrote a simulator), then the participants will get easy 6B. If actual chances are lower than I claimed, then I shall amend the rules so that customers wont get screwed.

As per rules, the deadline for participation will be passed in few hours, 23.59 EVE time. The actual draw will not be till wednesday, just to allow last moment cries for amendable mistakes (from my part).
Don't remember seeing lottery with this high jackpot in Eve history, with (I hope) reasonable safety guarantees.
I hope nobody would win, but there always have to be those lucky bastards.
Anyway, good luck to the participants, on wednesday we'll listen to the old lady Fate who shall be the winner here.

Finally allows posting, so:
As per lottery rules, the draw of Wed 23 Aug 06 decided the winners. The official numbers in the link are 06 16 20 21 23 37.
It appears that in this round we did not get jackpot winner. Closest one was Knightofni, with two out of three numbers.
So, I no lucky billionaire this round, but at least I did not lose 4770M. Instead my total profit is 1230M, of which almost 400M seemed to come from friends (expensive bumps would think..).
Now I am left to wonder if there is need/interest for further rounds, with as high stakes..

Alas, although such method is used in RL lotteries and often results in high jackpots, it is not that viable in this case.
Those RL lotteries use format alike to 'jackpot is XX percent from value of all sold tickets' (so for this round it could have been like 1000M). Personally wanted to try format where the jackpot is (relatively) high regardless of how many tickets I sell.
Unlike BIG Lottery, I am not too eager to organize lotteries where I would (statistically) donate ISK to the participants..
So, was a fun experiment, and through luck I did get to keep some ISKs too (with repeated runs with gain a lot less on average).
-Lasse should someone need the perl script used to simulate/check this lottery drop a note..
