Edited by: Lobster Man on 11/08/2006 13:49:27 So what's the deal with them? I've been living in the deklein region now for about 10 months, and I've done my fair share of ratting. In that time, I think I've ever only gotten 3 dread spawns, maybe 4. Lots of people have their theories on how they come about; some insist you must chain your spawns, others say you only get them by warping to a fresh belt and getting lucky. I know some people who claim to get them several times a week, what do they know that I don't? Everyone's thoughts, hypotheses, and observations please

In my experience, the lower the "true" security status of a system, the more likely it is to get a rare spawn.

Lately, I've been ratting in -.9 to -1's, and I haven't really noticed a difference. In fact, there seems to be more infrequent spawns in the lower sec systems.

If your'e chaining those triple 1.5's, then you're not going to see squat for dread spawns. You need to cycle through all the belts and kill every single NPC in the system to increase your chances of one popping out. ---------------------------------------- Friends Forever

Well then explain the time that I was chaining 1.4s or something and I got a hauler spawn...or are they different from the other dread spawns? (It was a dread guristas carrier or 2, and dropped like 12mil trit)

Well ive been ratting for about 8 months in Feythabolis, going all over and have had approx 6 Domination spawns during that time (and i spend ALOT of time ratting) none of them gave me anything that good (best ive got was a single Domination gyro).
On the other hand a Couple of mates of mine got a Dread Gurista spawn in a 0.5 system a few weeks ago.... it dropped a Halo (gamma i think) implant which they sold for 200mill
I then went on a ***** tirade against them about the risk/reward principle of Eve.... they got better loot in a save 0.5 system than ive ever got in deepest 0.0... very fair eh

I seem to run into Domination goons suprisingly offten. I'm a miner by trade and do very little ratting, but in the last month I've popped 3 at least in .4 and .5 systems. Only one implant from them but some nice named mods (from where I'm sitting, don't know how they stack against the rest of the game) soothed my irritation.

i spent 6 hours ratting in a -.8 system yesterday, popping every spawn (not chaining) all the way from dt, and didn't get a domination. i find the best way is to just check as many belts as poss just after startup tbh.
what's worst is when you rat for ages, eventually getting a faction spawn, and then it doesn't drop anything (just tag/ammo 9/10 times on dominations lately, but at least the bounties are ok).
i've been ratting in 0.0 for about 9 months now, and get a domi spawn maybe once every 3 weeks. i have a friend who came down just a few months ago who got an officer that dropped tons of named stuff.
it's all random luck tbh.
I got a jar of dirt!

I bet the dev's are all laughing at us becuase we can't figure out the overtly simple algorithm which causes good stuff to spawn

One of our corp members had 6 True Sansha spawns in one day in a .5 system in domain. The true security of the system is .53 I believe. He ended up making over 120ml pulling in the biggest drop of the day, a T2 implant. I've ratted all day for a week in the same system and never had a drop other than Sansha's Radio S, one True Sansha Radio S, and a couple fleeting webifiers. He is like the ratting champion, always gets at least one "high value" spawn a day that drops something spectacular (no matter where he rats really). I tend to believe its pure luck, and my luck just plain ol' sucks. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Win a Cynabal for 10ml!!! |

yaya its totally true. I really do think it comes down to pure luck. The "True" security of that .5 he was ratting in is listed as a high .5 We went and ratted for a week in a low .5 (actually I think it was .46 or something) and it was no better. In fact it seemed worse. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Win a Cynabal for 10ml!!! |

Basically you have to kill a certain number of spawns, not sure if it is overall, certain amount of each, or just a particular type of spawn. Then you have to kill everything in system, and there is a chance a special spawn will spawn. It is what we do, usually if there are other corps in the system we just end up chainging seraphims, but if it is only our corp there we go for special spawns. I've gotten dominations twice in the last week, domination ammo, webber and AB. -------------------------

Not necessarily true. I didn't play for 2 days, undocked and the first belt I hit had a TS in it. It dropped didly squad (like they always do for me) but it was still there. I don't think there is a method like you specify.
Its whatever works for you though. I'm just saying, I don't think there's a method that works better than another, because again... I think its pure luck. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Win a Cynabal for 10ml!!! |

There seems to be no exact pattern as i can see it.
While ratting in syndicate over the past month or so i have had 7 shadow serpantis spawns.
Most of them have dropped pure crap (em armour resistence boosters ftl...i have 4 shadow serpantis ones btw ), but i've had 2 snake implants, one of them worth over a billion isk.
I have noticed a strange distribution of them, 4 of those Shadow Serpantis spawns all showed up in a singular system, which is bearly a -0.03.
My corp members, of course, have tried their luck in that system but found nothing. Funnily enough, 4 jumps away, a corp member has found multiple shadow spawns over just a week, but i have never found anything in that system.
It really does seem truly random. ________________ What you do is you store up the rage, let it fester while you gain strength, then use it to gank those weaker than you... and so the circle of life is complete |

Based on what all of you are saying, and testimonials from some of my corp/alliance mates, it seems like "true sec status" of a system doesn't really dictate the quality or frequency of the said spawns; and if anything, anecdotally at least, it seems that they may preference the higher-sec systems.
Although the only time I ever saw a 4x guristas conquistador spawn was in a -1.

One day I got one Dread Guristas and an Officer, and the day after that I got four DG spawns. Generating as many spawns as possible is the trick. That is doable after a downtime or server reboot after which the belts are emptied.

Edited by: Lobster Man on 11/08/2006 17:47:25 So basically, unless I'm chaining like a 3x usurper spawn to fatten out my wallet a bit, just kill everything, move on, then come back and check on the emptied belts later? (I assme it doesn't matter if I pick up my cans?)

Our corp was ratting in Syndicate as well, pretty much all in one system. We got a few Shadow Serpentis spawns, dropping hardeners and such.
However, as time went by, there were less and less of them. At one point we wouldn't even get BS spawns anymore...
Perhaps there's a quota system in place. Like asteroids, if you over-exploit a system, then it thins out. Until you leave it be for a while, and the nice spawns come back.
Perhaps the rats get scared of being pwned all the time. -

It does make a difference. They're rare enough that it's not a huge one. NPC rat's home region? MUCH bigger difference. All IME of course...

True sec status doesn't seem to make a difference for the named spawns, but the normal spawns are definatly better the lower you go. I do think there's a system to the spawns, it's not completely random... certain things affect the probability of a named spawn appearing. I haven't found out exactly what those things are, but I have noticed a few things that I'm not going to mention =P
And yes, the npc's home region does seem to give better chance of a named spawn. I've also noticed that almost every time I've found a named spawn it's been the first or second second belt immediatly after starting to rat. And that the better the normal spawns your getting are the higher the chance you'll find a named spawn soon (doesn't seem to be much higher mind you).

I have noticed the longer you stay in a system, the bigger the rats seem to get, although I never noticed an association with dread etc. spawns.
How long, on average, would you say you stay in one system before you get a dread, etc spawn?
