Whats Up With City of Heroes and City of Villains?
Are they the same game or what? Can I buy COH and play COV? Or are they two different games?
And is there PvP between the two? Does Batman get to bash the player Joker? Or is it all PVE or what?
Not sure I want to play it, but it puzzles me that the box from one doesnt mention the other at all.

I played City of Heroes for a few weeks, and I really didn't like it, In most MMO games you only start to feel the grind at mid or high level but in this game it was grind from very early on, the missions/quests or whatever you want to call them were so boring, seemed like there was no thought put into them at all, quite sad because I really had high hopes for it and I wanted to play something new.
From what I hear city of villains is just more of the same. Only good thing I have to say about this really is the chatacter creation, quite alot of possibilities. Unless you are a hardcore superhero/comicbook fan I would stay away from this. Anyway I heard one of the big comic companies is making an MMO so you might want to wait for that instead. -----------------------------

They're just more of the same junk. Sadly.
All too few MMORPGs even try to break the mold these days.

To respond to the question:
Yes, they are the same game. You can buy CoH and CoV seperately, but if you have a subscription to one, the subscription covers the other. The 2 games currently overlap in the PvP zones: Bloody Bay, Siren's Call, Warburg, and Recluse's Victory.

Agree, char creation in CoV was the best one I've ever seen. Game soon became ridiculously boring grind game. I became a badge ***** very quickly in order to find something else to do, but after I got my cape at lvl 20 I didn't really feel like playing anymore, eventually made it to lvl 30 before quitting. Pvp wasn't good on my server, every time I pvp'd it was between 3:1 and 5:1 villian to hero ratio. One good thing about the pvp zones is that they equalize everyone's lvl, so you can start pvp'ing very early and not automatically get pwnd, just that higher lvl characters will have more skills and better mods to abilities. Their newest update, Issue 7, looked like it had some very promising additions to game mechanics, char templates, and pvp, but I got sick of it getting pushed back constantly, quit before it was implemented. Not sure if it's gone through yet or not.

Edited by: Mallory Reynolds on 13/08/2006 10:41:25 CoH / CoV can get grindy but they're also very sociable games and stuffed with humour.
They're two halves of the same game, really: Heroes hang out in bright and shiny Paragon City bashing NPC villains, Villains hang out in the Rogue Isles bashing NPC villains and any NPC heroes that are daft enough to venture out there.
The two can meet in four special PvP zones, graded and balanced so that anyone who ventures in there has a fair shot at taking down anyone else.
One handy thing is the Sidekick and Exemplar system - if a friend is a lot higher than you, you can become their Sidekick and you get temporarily upgraded to their level. If a friend is lower than you and needs a hand, you can be Exemplared down to their level and they won't lose XP. This is also very handy for when a team needs a particular player class but there aren't any around that specific level available.
Unfortunately, since "Issue 7" (major updates/expansions are called "Issues") there's been a major coding problem that the players are furious about and the QA team refused to acknowledge existed for months and then can't seem to fix.
I'm a regular UK CoH player but I'm taking a break - will come back if/when things get fixed.

After looking at Archlord's orc race, yes I must say this is just another L2 stuff (Where the orc are more macho hunk rather than the ugly brutish type). ---------
