Is it considered an exploit to eject from your ship right before it docks, so your ship docks, but you then can fly in space in your pod?

You can eject from your ship anywhere in space. Not just outside the station.

Err... let me elaborate.
As in eject from your ship, right as it's docking, so, your ship docks, but you stay in space in the pod.
Edit: OP clarified.

It's a well known trick...lots of people use it. I don't see the damage it could do to be deemed an exploit either.

Yeh man that trick has been in forever - for those who dont know, how you do it is as follows - Select dock when NOT in dock range, and as your ship is moving into dock range select eject. WAIT until the system tells you "Docking request accepted" then confirm that you want to eject from your ship. The ship will dock, and you will be floating in space in your egg. Nice little trick, tho with the advent of shuttles (yes, there was a time that shuttles werent available, it wasnt fun having frigs lying everywhere :@) its not reall required unless in 0.0

from what I remember, it's not an exploit, but if it does jam you up, they're not likely to help out much with "stuck" petitions, because it's your own fault.

God help the 0.0 ship builders if this was called an exploit..
i've seen heaps of people doing this to run ships built at a POS into a station for sale and distribution to corp/alliance members.

It's an expoit in a way that you are taking advantage of lag and using game features in way CCP didn't intend it to be used. However, since it is harmless, it won't be condemed as official exploit.
It's definitely one of those things that make you think "wtf that ain't right"

It is considered a bug that is very low on the to-fix-list.
Using it is not considered an exploit according to GM and devs in the help channel.

Dev's said it was a bug but as it does no damage its not going to be fixed soon.
And no its not an exploit.

there is a defect regarding this issue and it will be addressed at some point. it's not really a major major (omg close the server) type bug, but it will be fixed anyways

I'm not keen on ejecting whilst docking to park a ship and podwarp. Personally I'd rather be able to eject in the station and undock in my pod.

Why fix it when it's, you know, usefull? It's very annoying to have ships littering space and this is the easiest way to clear them.

Odds are the reason it works has something to do with a bug/glitch in the session change mechanisms, and fixing it may prevent some other bugs/improve session changes/whatever.

if they ever do get around to fixing it hopefully the fix will include a way to leave the station without a ship. 0.0 hub stations can get awfully *****ly with the shuttles and its very helpfull that the players have a way to clean this up themselves without involving ccp's payroll..
