This came up in some in game convos and alot seemed to be, so i'm wondering how many are? I know i am. Also feel free to rant about why you quit and why you love eve :D
myself i hated the post 60 gear grind. whether you pvped or pveed, end game was about getting t3h ph47 lewtz. and it was sh!tty.
eve is so much more open, free, and it's just huge and dynamic, no static anything. love it.

I like many here played EVE before trying WoW. I got to lvl54 as a NE Hunter and i looked ahead to what awaited me at that lvl60 bar and i felt sick. I faffed about in the game until that month's payment ended, hoping or even wondering if my interest would be peaked again enough to continue playing. It didn't my unrest grew, my distate and actual anger towards WoW and Blizzard grew and eventually i spat in its face and uninstalled it.
WoW is a horribly over-rated and flawed game. Here's a little analogy.
On release WoW is like a Ferrari and EVE is like cheap reliable car. Over the course of a few years Blizzard have been slowly altering and changing that Ferrari taking of its doors, punching in speed holes, adding monstrous spoilers and wheel trims.
While CCP have been in the garage tweaking and modifying their sturdy little car, squeezing more and more performance from it, while at the same time updating its chassis.
At the end of the race (ooooh, IÆm good ;) youÆll have a Ferrari that looks like the bastard child of a Scrap Heap Challenge creation and MTVÆs pimp my ride. Whilst CCPÆs creation will be a gleaming spectacle of craftsmanship, love and hard work.
WoW tries desperately to solve all its problems by bolting on 'new sooper features' all in the hope that the masses don't wake up and realise that they have been playing and 'paying' for a festering turd all along.
other than that its a great game ;)

I played a Tauren Shaman for a while, at the urging of my roomates (who still play WoW). The sheer versatility of the class is what hooked me. I could blast people with Earth Shock and interrupt their casting, I could smash people's faces in with Flurry blows, and I wasn't half bad at surviving and escaping battles with Foot Stomp and rooting totems.
All of that died when the "raids" took over.
Versatility? Screw that. I was supposed to be a heal-slave and like it. Just sit there throwing my retarded glowing green mist on people endlessly while they bang on some giant eyeball monster.
I quit in disgust and never look back. It's a souless, empty fantasy world that's painted over with a pretty finish like some kind of morbid Disneyland ride.

I make it a point to at lest try new MMOs once in awhile to remind myself that deep down they have many of the same elements. Even EvE has many of the MMO staples. EvE at lest amuses me and I don't feel that if I'm not grinding 24/7 to "end game" I'm some how losing the game. Sure EvE has a grind and has its time sinks.
I've done... UO,AO,AC,EQ,DAoC,EQ2,CoH,CoV,DDO,WoW,E&B, and of course EvE and all in all EvE just fits my mind set and life style. Everyother MMO makes me feel like I've been chained and thorwn into a sweatshop "Grind faster and make 60 by the end of the week or no food".
But WoW Yeah I got to the mid 30s early 40s on a few toons. My main was a Gnome Warlock.

I would be interested in seeing Blizzard's figures for the amount of people who have cancelled subscription.
I can gaurentee the percentile is large. Just look at the WoW forums they are full of people complaining about the game and posting quit threads.
I also bet they include those numbers in the total amount of subscribers that they frequently boast about.

I play WoW .. lvl60 lock with epix gear, lvl52 hunter and now leveling a druid to be 60ish.
I have 2 accounts on EVE but I find WoW much more entertaining. Better PvE and PvP.

Edited by: Dethis on 14/08/2006 12:25:36 I had 3 lvl 60's 2 of which had full tier 2 and the other was random blues (mage main, hunter and warrior alts) 2 characters +lvl 50 and 1 in the 40's.
Use to raid at least 4 hours a night not including out of raid play time and i had been playing since release.
Got a job guild fell apart after killing twin emps didnt have time to raid and pvp was crappy and stagnant and eve was alot better was an easy to decision to quit tbh i hate raiding looking back on it.
Although i still activate every couple of months to pvp with old friends

I'm another 'never have, never will'.
I am (or was) a total 24/7 fps nut. 24hrs+ solid gaming sessions on a single server? Done that. Playing UT, HL, Quake, CS, COD, pretty much anything with a crosshair. Me and our very own TheJacko, 'pwning t3h noobs' in style.
But that was before we found eve. For a first MMO it's perfect. Easy to learn, yet hard to master. One not dumbed down for the mass market "zomg pretty colours" crowd and with a fairly mature player base.
Long live EvE.

Edited by: Wintersun QC on 14/08/2006 17:06:43 Leveled 3 Rogues to 60, raided with all of them. One to TwinEmps/Naxx, One to Nef(pre-AQ), one to ZG/Rag (pre-AQ).
Raided 5+ hours a night, 5-6 days a week. Sure, shiny epics are fun - loot*****s made it painful. For those that know about endgame, at a certain time I was the only rogue with blue daggers. I lost Perdition's blade to Warriors (Whose main role in endgame is to tank, not to DPS - unlike rogues) not once but twice. While I usually don't mind, problem is they never used it in raids, saying it wasn't that good.
And yeah, pretty colors, morbid feeling. Exactly what I thought when I traveled in elven lands. Results, I never quested in Ashenvale/Felwood.
What made me leave WoW is when I realized that I was passing out on stuff IRL because of it. Lost many good friends to that and I'm trying to fix it.
Cheers, Winter

I just started playing WoW, does that count? After being hassled for months by former swg buddies, got a guest key. It's fun so far, but every mmo has something novel and semi-interesting about it when you first start. I had said I'd never play WoW, but fact is it's nice to see all the old friends, nice to recognize the voices on vent again. Can't say if I'll buy game after guest account is up, but my 2 Eve accounts aren't going anywhere. It is fun to hit something in the head with a hammer for a change though.

wow was my first mmorpg, my hubbie talked me into playing it, after a year and 4 months,a 60 nelf rogue, 60 nelf priest ad 50 human pally, i wondered why the hell i was playing to grind endessly.
Each day i Spent my time, grinding lvls as pally, grinding pvp as rogue, or grinding 40man instances as a priest. back in may my wow account was hacked everything sold, blizz re-instated the characters and none of the gear.
I spent a month and a half grinding back to playable, but it just wasnt any fun. After a few issues with the blizzard customer service (un-fortunatly the forums would censor the whole range of words that describe blizzard) my hubbie pursuaded me to try EVE.
Witin 24 hours I'd told blizz what the could do with thier account and havent looked back :)

mmo career went somthing like this.
1990's to about oct 2001... was a hardcore fpser, if i couldnt see my gun in my hands i didnt play it. Then i gave daoc a whirl... was hooked on that for 5 years. Got sick of my guild leader being a complete asshat and blaming everyone but himself when we lost pvp fights. Went to play a different realm and screwed around in the bgs for about two weeks. Saw a post talking about EVE on the vnboards. "WTFS eve?!!?" is basically what i said in my head as i began to read. Thought ah wtf ill check it out the trial is free at any rate. Two days into the free trial... my secondary (bot) account for daoc is cancelled. Figure bah ill keep my main daoc acc. open just for whatever. Was absolutly blown away by the free trial... another whopping 4 days later cancelled my primary daoc acc. Realized i was now minus 2 mmo accounts and only +1 mmo account right now... HAULER ALT! Picked up a second EVE account in less than two weeks after having started the free trial.
Just after having dorked around in the eve universe i can see CCP actually has this thing that i find highly intriguing... a sense of humor and a real willingness to want to improve thier game. Where as Mythic seems to just drag its customers along by the balls month by month.. o sure this class fix is coming in next patch (3 years later it finally does come). Thats if your lucky and not gutted as a playable class in pvp.
Ive tried wow.. THREE times. Did late beta, and two free trials. While this may not account for a ton of experiance with the game.. i was really not that impressed and couldnt find a reason for the life of me why so many people played the game. In each instance of playing i never got above lvl 15 i jsut got flat out bored with it each time and quit never making it to a full subcription. The worlds are vibrant and lively and well drawn for sure. That however is as far as the depth of that game goes. Wow makes the leveling treadmill in daoc look like a cakewalk by comparison.
Every mmo needs time sinks to some extent i can accept that, it is just the nature of the genre. Some do it well (this one where you can play 20hrs a day and still be equal to someone who plays 10m a day excluding monetary gain). I dont want ot be forced to have to play 8hrs a day a full time job really to be competitive against other people.
EVE is the only mmo thusfar that has been able to hold my attention like daoc did (rest in peace daoc).
My only peeve with eve so far is the horrid drone controls lol. unless im missing somthing though they just suck, HARD.
I will most likely stick with this game a looooong time as it seems to have a skys the limit kind of development ceiling where as daoc has kind of painted itself into the provebial expansion corner. -----------------------------------------------

I had a NE Hunter that I regretfully levelled all the way up to 60 At many points during the level grind I contemplated quitting because the game just felt so hollow, every character class I looked at had exactly the same gear and items and everyone was working toward the exact same goals. WoW is not enjoyable, even in the slightest, sure the environments look nice (although they aren't the greatest MMO environments ever, not by a long shot) but everything else is so restrictive and linear. Once I reached 60 and discovered that all I was supposed to do was repeatedly enter the same instances over and over again for a piece of armor, I realised it was just the excuse I was looking for to banish it from my hard drive into the nether regions.
I only wish I had discovered EVE year's ago

World of Warcraft is the only MMORPG in history to make PvP into a grind, as far as I know.
An amazing accomplishment, sure, but not one to be proud of.

The way he grinds battlegrounds apparently is that he goes AFK in all the 20-40 man games and only plays the 10-15 man ones .

Hi my name is Leverton, and I'm ex-WoW.
I played a 60 mage and was able to get mostly purple gear (some of you know what that means :P )
One day I thought, "I'm bored, why am I doing this?" So I uninstalled and cut myself off cold-turkey.
Then, I looked up and realized I had friends I hadn't talked to in months as a result and realized what a loser WoW had made me
So I got my life back and one thing led to another and I started playing EVE. I love it; I can still play an MMO without having to sacrifice my personal life. WooT!
