Edited by: Wen Jaibao on 15/08/2006 02:42:04 His name was Pierre Malherbaud, and he played minmitar, as Catamarack already said. From what I gathered from talking to him, hes a CCG vet.

The Top 8 consisted of 6 Matari and 2 Caldari, the finals were between 2 Matari decks. Pierre Malherbaud was the winner, taking $2,000 and 96 booster packs. He is a M:TG veteran, doing well in a number of EU tournaments.

Edited by: Kasheem Cetanes on 20/08/2006 01:42:34 The winner was piere some french guy. of the top 8 decks, because of how the tournie was set up, 8 were minmatar and two was I believe caldari. In the top 16 there were 12 minmatar, 2 caldari 1 gallente and 1 ammar (Me) but yeah, 40 card decks = minmatar wins

*Wave* Coincidentally, I was the last Gallente. At least I went down to one of the Caldari... :) Btw, ryuteki AT gmail.com, drop me a line if you're still in the Chicago area. I have yet to figure out how send PMs via this board. :P -------------------------- Just here for the CCG. :) |

Kamakaze is really my only issue with the game.
any unlimited use of skills on ships like the thrasher.

Eh, I made it to the final 8 playing minmatar and I didn't have any kamikaze at all. My deck was all about waiting until I had 2 thrasher/scythe or my 1 cyclone out. I got absolutely crushed in my first round and in the quarterfinals because I didn't have the resources, but in the rest of the games I played, only one lasted longer than 10 minutes or so. Two of them took 8 rounds or less.
I've since rebuilt it a little, no cyclone but 4 thrashers and 4 scythes.
All of that being said, one of my friends, who had never played the game before (but he's really in to MTG), built a gallente deck that went something like 7-1-0 against my minmatar deck. It's crap against anything but a straight aggro deck, but he clobbers me almost every time with it.
Which is something I love about this game - there's a lot of rock/paper/scissors going on. You can beat X with Y but you can beat Y with Z. I haven't seen 'the ultimate' deck strategy yet. I'm pretty sure my cald deck would crush his gallente setup.
I honestly think that, had the tournament been with 60 (or 52) cards instead of 40, and with a little more play experience all around, we would have seen a lot more gallente and especially amarr at the top end. ------ {o,o} (__(| -"-"- EVEMon |

Aye, sorry about that... I really tried to put a Gallante in the finals, but inexperience coupled with lack of sleep led to a couple mistakes in my last game (one major) which pretty much sealed my fate. -------------------------- Just here for the CCG. :) |
