Well, in the case of alliances, the reason for wars is usually territory, either taking it, or defending it.
Otherwise, its normally just for fun.

You win or loose (loot) Territories are won and lost The territorial map (who currently owns what) changes on almost weekly basis.

Everyone has their own reasons for doing pvp combat...but overall, the most meaningful pvp is probably in wars fought to eliminate alliances from the game. Im not saying its the most fun though... alot of people seems to agree that small group pvp is alot more fun than alliance warfare. Ive never done alliance warfare myself. But i love solo/small group pvp. :)

I do pvp for the adreniline <-- SPELLING ERROR ALERT!!!. Corps and Alliances engage in war for various reasons.
Lets take Ascendant Frontier and SA/SE. ASCN attacked Catch because A: they were getting annoying and B: They wanted the territory for a friendly alliance to move into
But than again, I'll be honest - ASCN's leaderish is corrupted for the most part. It's run by pigheaded, egocentric, *****s. Minus Cyvok of course, he rocks.
Also on the case of Ascendant, they rarely MAKE wars, usually they are engaged first simply becuase of their sheer size, size + isk = attention. Isk + killing ASCN = OMGHAX BRAGGING RIGHTS!!!11 ------------ Peregrinus Amarria

I rarely feel like I've "won" anything...just inflicted loss on someone else.
A challenging fight is entertaining whether I "win" or not. Being ganked is simply annoying and ganking others isn't my idea of fun.
Roleplaying adds some depth to the experience.
Eve is a rather odd game.

Its all I need for a workout all day thats for sure. I've never had my heart in my throat like I do when I get shot at by players in EVE. You get warped in on by a flashing red BS you in a BC... You jump a bit, maybe even piddled a bit in my pants.
Thus, its the thrill of it all. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Win a Cynabal for 10ml!!! |

I like to murder men in cold blood and then listen to the lamentations of their maidenfolk.
Oh yeah, the items they drop are also pretty nice. _________________________________________________________

To take territory you destroy your enemies POS (player owned structure) Basicly a large base in space with guns and a big ass shield around it. Then you put your own POS up, then you shoot the conquerable outpost until the sheilds on it go down. Then you dock and it's yours.
To destroy an alliance, apperently all you have to do is sick iron on them. This only works if it's a nothern alliance. ___________________________________________ The deeper you stick it in your vein, the deeper the thoughts there's no more pain. ___________________________________________ |

Does Attrition make much of a difference?
If I make a run into BadGuy Space and vape a ship, does that have an impact in the long run? Or are ships too cheap to matter?

I find the more meaningful question to be: "So whats the Point of anything other than PvP in Eve Online?"
The answer of course is simply to buy better stuff to PvP with.

Sort of. one ship wont make a difference. but kill 20, and people start to notice. Kill 100, and most likely they will start to avoid you. Kill a faction bs, and they will cry. _____________________________________ Stressed out with empire politics?

Because NPCs don't beg you to stop, whine, cry, plead for mercy, fight back, rally their allies for help, or hunt you down for revenge 3 months later.
There are only four things in life. The first one is love: Cherish that one, and keep it safe, because the other three are fear, hatred, and sorrow. |
