Oveur has posted a new News Item regarding the code update we are deploying on Tuesday, 22 August. This deployment will start at 0800 and we are estimating it will take 9 hours to complete.
This is a major step in preparation for deploying the upcoming EVE expansion, the Path to Kali. As such, there are going to be some changes made that will have an effect on the EVE community.
The mission system will be changing and missions running on older code will be disabled.
Also, EVE will no longer support Windows 98, 98 SE or Millennium. Unfortunately, we must follow in Microsoft's footsteps. This was not an easy choice to make, but users of these OSes account for less than 1% of our user base and we must keep security and encryption standards up to date.
Patch Notes will be available in the very near future. As always, set a long skill training before the day of the deployment.

Originally by: kieron Earlier this month we stated that the new Dragon client (which includes unicode support and acts as a stepping stone to Kali 1) would be out in three weeks. Now some of you have noticed that we made that comment four weeks ago.
To resolve some of the confusion, we have pushed back the deployment of this patch until October 13th. This is partly due to several critical errors in the current test build, and partly due to the unexpected downtimes we've had in recent weeks. We feel that resolving these downtimes is more important than new content.

There's still time I guess. Feel free to use that if needed.
There isn't any new content in Dragon.

Thanks
It's a patch, it's 24.2 MB.

I think the codebase should be called "Jolly Roger". EVE is a game of wars and pirates, not a game of dragons

It¦s called "dragon" in anticipation of the weeks of flameage it is bound to cause.
I'm doing my anti-repetitive strain syndrome exercises in readiness for any stray rants which require nerfage

If missions are changing, that's new content.
No, old missions are removed. The new missions replacing them were added in the last patch.

Originally by: Sky Marshal Is it possible to know if Eve Online will really require Windows 2000 SP4 ?
I use Windows 2000 SP3 since I found some problems with the SP4, non serious but annoying for a daily use.
XP is NOT a solution. I am the only one in this world who is incompatible with XP ^^ I tried all to keep him stable, I failed (Hardware changes, Microsoft KB informations, forums, use only secured softwares like OpenOffice etc..., check virus by Kaspersky and Trend online scanner, no P2P, official drivers, etc...). No one are capable to tell me what is the problem with XP, because I do nothing who can create a problem... Paranormal activities I guess, or a curse :D
I will cancel my subscription tomorrow, because I have to pay this 19. I don't want take a risk...
No, SP2 will do nicely and SP3, we just got the results from our hardware compatibility testing partner.

Originally by: Sevarus James gonna toss this over to the Transgaming support requests as a new one yet again. Dragon will not work with cedega, and transgaming already admitted that it will break cedega. They did indicate they are investigating, but this doesn't give any time frame for fixes.
So the 8/22 date for us who DID upgrade to other solutions..........means a seriously long skill train.
Of course Kieron hinted so smugly after E3 that we linux and mac types would have good news coming...........I can't imagine that THIS is what he was referring to? -sigh.
That was actually me that hinted at it, not kieron, and it's still true. Transgaming got a code drop of dragon from us recently so work has already started, but we haven't started an official relationship yet.

Originally by: Siri Blue Ok, I read the threat...
So the mission system will stay as it is, just the old missions (and their old code) will be removed, the loyalty point and reward system (and offers) and all the newer missions will stay unchanged for now?
So we can run missions normally after the downtime? Did I get that right?
It'd be nice if a DEV could answer this...

I got ready to answer some of the questions and Oveur beat me to them. Sheesh, the nerve of that guy! Oh, wait, he's my boss.....
On a more serious note, the Dev team is looking forward to this deployment. The code changes will make a big difference in future efforts to support EVE.
