Which is best for a new miner? I was thinking of getting a bustard since you can use shield skills with it, just wanted to be sure though. I like them all really except for the amarr ones, dunno why. Thanks for any help on the subject.

The Bustard and Mastadon are the the two best Transports for what is important for a Transport: Big cargo and hard to kill at the same time. Occator and Impel don't even come close (Occator and Impel have to sacrifice cargo to be truly hard to kill....)
I prefer the Iteron V in 0.0, as it gets into warp a little faster, but in Empire a Bustard is great to make life hard for suicide gankers (but be warned, a Bustard can be taken down by suicide gankers if they use enough fire power....)

For pure hauling though you can get the Occater's cargo up tp like 34k m3 or somesuch using cans and the proper expanders. That is, if you dont mind shelling out absurd isk for the best expanders and making yourself a very sexy target for empire suicide ganks.

Honestly hate to sound like a 'don't use that ship, use this one!' type of person , but are you sure a transport ship is what you need?
As a new miner, a tech one industrial ship may be more fitting? I haven't actually checked your characters age, so I don't know if your a newbie, or not, if your not, then just ignore my advice :)
A tech one industrial is a hell of a lot cheaper than a transport ship, and have adequate cargo bays just for hauling the contents of cans back to the station from the asteroid belt. (Will take more than one trip, unless you use a pimpedup Iteron Mark V).

No, its ok, I am new. I checked out a hoarder which looks pretty good. I was referring to transport ships in a future tense, I can't even afford the book yet hahaha. Thanks for the advice!
