I dont think it will kill Eve as I have heard rumors about CCP countering this game with "EvE: Asteroids" but I cannot confirm if its true or not.
I was told that you can take control of asteroids and make them smash into spaceships and stations or even planets causing extinction level destruction. Strategic strikes on Dust players and to take out PI command centers controlled by capsuleers will also be available in EvE: Asteroids.
Eve: comets is also a possibly planned DLC for EvE: Asteroids

CK, I think you may have saved EVE from the threat right there. I'm ready for a playable asteroid class. Join together with your mates to form a roid corp and launch it into a gravitational path-- hopefully an intersecting path of destruction! Log on, fly through space, listen to some tunes, chat with your fellow roids-- Ah!

Oh I forgot to mention the best part about Eve: Asteroids.
No longer will asteroids be a the mercy of miners. Asteroids will now have the ability to fight the miner scourge. Miners will finally have to be weary of player controlled asteroids that are out for revenge.
You will have the ability to jam their strip miners, explode into million pieces causing an area of effect blast or even form a deadly gas cloud that rivals the old school Titan AOE doomsday causing the total obliteration of everything on grid.
