Edited by: DeTon8R on 12/10/2003 22:28:05 Thread posted on my corp forum by a member - names blanked out for obvious reasons:
[Corp Name] member [attacker] attacked [our member] who was mining in Luminaire (1.0 system 4 jumps from Abud).
[attacker] is -9.9 with 50,000 bounty (bit pathetic given the sec status, imo).
I presume this means that he can't leave Luminaire?
He warp disrupted [our member] (who was in an indy) destroyed and podded him.
------ Should this be allowed, i thought CONCORD would attack anyone like that sec status in a 1.0?
Or am i right in thinking he probably cant get out of that system with that rating ever??

Edited by: Bexxly on 12/10/2003 23:07:19 I'd say the cops were bugged, it's happened a lot recently as for leaving the system? they can just pod themselves and move to any station with a med facility.
And as to the CHEAP flame about bounty level, that's not set by him (you can use an alt but IMO that's a pussies way of doing things), why not just increase it?

Edited by: Akiro on 12/10/2003 23:11:14 It is possible for a PvP pirate to enter any system in Eve to attack other players. It is difficult for them but it is possible. I'me afraid you need to be constantly aware of your local area even in 1.0 or 0.9 space etc etc. Its not an exploit, just a daring raid by a bold pirate. :)

So that means that any pirate who is bold enough can just swan around 0.9 and 1.0 systems picking off relative newcomers to the game?
Hardly encouraging for any new players feeling their way in the game to have some -9.9 pirate come along and kill them with a minimum of fuss.
I though the whole reason of having security status for a system is based purely on how well protected it is by CONCORD? If not, then it makes a complete mockery of the system security ratings.
I dare say the person involved was mining in a 1.0 system for a reason (ie, no protection - probably even doing some "AFK MINING") - and as such I'd wager that they will probably quit the game completely (although I dare say that will depend on whether they had a clone/insurance etc).
If it was me, I'd quit the game after that.

ps.
Quote from the FAQ:
"Newbies will have the option of staying in zones with high security levels, heavily patrolled by police ships and sentry guns."
Heavily patrolled my arse.

Vinknut:
Until you try initiating hostile maneuvers in a 1.0 system, please dont post on the amount of cops there are there. Most times police respond before damage has even been dealt to innocent ships, and a lot of those times it is impossible to get away.

Well, no matter how many cops there are, it still takes them time to get to the scene of a crime, you could be 3 block away from the poliece station in downtown LA and commit a murder, its just a matter of running before the cops show up. And as to getting out of the system, you can't right after an attack, but, if you hang out in the middile of nowhere in a system for around 15 minutes then cops won't be chasing you unless your sec rating is really bad, in which case they will kill on sight, but if concord isn't at the gate you can just jump through, the poliece can, like any matter, only occupy one space at any given time, and cannot possibly always be there when someone attacks, they do try though.... just fail miserably...

Iv attacked ore thieves and griefers in high sec systems, and on ALL occasions, i have lost my ship in a matter of seconds.
This is even in 0.5 sec systems.
so to attack some1 in a 1.0 sec system and get away with it amazes me .
They dont even have to warp to you, they just "pop up" and have instant lock .
the -9.9 player MUST have known he would get away with it, the risks would have been too high.

... They are still NPCs... meaning, they operate within some easy to figure out rules.
And multiple MWDs help; a lot. :s

Yeah, but NPC rats still have a lock period.
The police NPCs dont seem to have this.
Its cool though, but make a little mistake and your toast:).

If there is a -9.9 player in a 1.0 system and rides around in anything other than a pod, he is an exploiter in the true sense of the word.
If you launch cruise missiles on anyone and CONCORD don't chase you until you have no energy left in your capacitor (in 'secure' space of course), ie. they fail to respond as they should, you're an exploiter.
If you spawn camp and use induced lag, you're an exploiter in the true sence of the word.
Term: Exploiter is my definition and not CCP's
Don't take advantage of the fact that the patches don't hold the quality they should and that the GMs are understaffed to deal with 'issues' and that the devs are not consistent.
Keep on flaming, lamers.

Unless you are 50m from your target, CONCORD could warp-in, pod you, have a few donuts, and belch extravagantly before the missile even hit the target.

Well thats why i continue to file exploit and cheat petitions against our friendly neighborhood biomass corp. if ccp's petition box was suddenly filled with details of how such grievances occur, they would be forced to do something about it. I have no problem dropping out of warp and seeing a superior force waiting for me, even with a bit of connection/system lag you should have 1-3 critical seconds in which your fate is decided.
Get yer indy back in warp half a second before you hit normal space... bust out some heavy drones and try and scare em off, works more often than you might think against lone or 2ship campers...
or don't act and fall into a well placed trap. At least from a game mechanics standpoint thats completely fair... and not that I'm proud of it or anything a stupid slip up on my part where I forgot to turn the autopilot off after gettin' away from the reverend and another moo ship... i was so pleased with getting away that I noticed too late I went right back and like a deer in headlights i just fired back hopelessly without even' launching a heavy drone :)
**THE POINT IS**
Document such exploit and cheat petitions with specifics. Such as an overly suspicious amount of secure cannisters getting anchored into deep space say right at a jumpgate... in rather neat lines going from every possible warp in point, towards the actual gate itself so that you get xtra lag no matter what you do. or... you jump into a new system and before you even load up someone is locked on you and possibly very well on their way to making you dead. But because there are so many cans locked into space at the static jump, dump, points... there isn't anything high speed, high end systems can do, let alone Joe Player on his data compressed dialup.
Give system names... give individual pirate names... get corporation names, show info on cans, find out if its one person or org puttin the stuff there. If enough reports are turned in eventually a game master will have to at least go and check it out and go... hmm... took a bit too long to load... what are all these cans and pirates with droids out doin here pounding away at my ship :P
If we could kill even anchored cans somehow....

Looks exactly like my definition, and any other 'honest' player in the game. Dishonest characters are okay, dishonest players are another thing entirely...
Secure long term storeage away from big space stations... a neat new tool that every corp uses in the manner its meant to be used. If your using a storeage tool to gain an unbeatable combat edge over *ANY* single or small group of ships... THATS AN EXPLOIT.
if they we're real pirates they'd have mine's or something explosive waiting in their trap, something that gets attention for ransom that pays the bills.

i've got 7+ years doin tech support, junior-mid lvl sysadmin, 1st lvl c++ and vb code debugging and developer's kit stuff... thats worked for such great companies as netscape and cisco systems... yet once again I'm a poor college student... gives me lots of xtra idle time... I'll volunteer to help police bs like this, so that the players can play and the real pirates can come out and pvp :D
Anyways i didn't update my sig and stuff before the rant. I have on my forums though...

Erm...
If you haven't already guessed it was ME that was killed in the 1.0 system - so don't try and patronise me. There were no cops, and the "person" who attacked me was still in the same system for the next 3 hours or so (I sent people to check). There was NO CONCORD intervention either during the attack or after, so kindly shut up or speak only when you have something relevant to add (ie. nevermore).
Thanks.

The sad thing is that there are people who get a kick out of it. One or two even brag about it, 'cos they r0xx0r and are more ub3r than j00.
(I think I got that right; I don't do l337 talk.)
The name Ponder Stibbons springs to mind.
To answer the question, I believe that it is a bug. Theoretically, it shouldn't be possible, especially in a 1.0 sector.

In te 1.0 highway systems the cop response time is almost none existant. When testing this, the cops only showed if we blew up a persons ship. So it would be possible to kill and then run away. Sometimes cops don't show at all, allowing you to pod. But i think this only occurs at times when there is a LOT of online traffic.

Edited by: darth solo on 14/10/2003 16:15:34 Dont kill new players in starter systems and high security systems that fly noob ships. .
Its that simple .
Players are usually in 1.0sec systems for a reason, its usually that they dont really know all the ins and outs of the game yet. And are just figuring out how to fly their smegging ship. Yet, you get a kick out of killing them .
This is trully the part of the game that i dont understand and that i dont like.
Bet you pulled the legs of spiders when you were kids, and most prob still do it now.
