The whole low sec/0.0 pvper mindset is the mindset of the most pathetic variety of idiot. And I stress the word "pathetic".
You all know the hollywood steriotype of the hardcore Christains who think it is sinful to even let folks dance?
That is EXACTLY what the folks who hate low sec/0.0 pvper . EXACTLY.
There is a simple solution to low sec/0.0 pvper: stay out of pvp zones .
a lot of the resentment to the high sec caerbear comes from their constant crys of nerf nerf nerf to enable them to fly around low sec/0.0 with impunity. its these constant attempts to change the game play which causes the resentment towards high sec caerbears. _____ They were monsters. They rode across the world we knew and brough terror, and death. Where they were, life ceased. They were without mercy. They were without fear - They were MASS |

That is EXACTLY what the folks who hate empire carebears are really like. EXACTLY.
There is a simple solution to Empire Carebears: IGNORE THEM. If they step into 0.4 or below, begin their education of surviving and dying in low sec, but otherwise IGNORE THEM.
Problem solved.
*sigh*, these forums just ate my reply.

Originally by: Tarminic I think a much better idea than simply an uber-barge would be a capital-sized mining barge, or a new module or two for mining barges that makes defending themselves easier in low security space, but with an interesting twist. For example, a module that could not be activated when any strip miners are activate, or strip miners that could also be used as offensive weapons...i feel like that could be interesting. How about a gun that shoots ore? That would be highly entertaining, at least.
wtf? i wrote somthing diffrent

What about the hulk...
With Tech 2 drones and shields it can easily tank 0.0 spawns and pawn BS's.
All the while out-mining anything else in the game.
If that isnt the uber miner you want then nothing is.

I think carebear / industrial tools should inflict a certain degree of damage too. Particularly the Miner modules.
Less damage than say a civilian gun, but still some damage.
In the spirit that it is quite possible to kill someone with a nailgun in rl.

Hmmm, gonna have to think before I post next time, seems as though things get silly quite quickly.
Anyhoo's, by kick arse, I didn't mean super powerful, I merely meant having a chance to deffend itself, or by putting people off attacking it via some damage dealing capabilities.
Yea, I could get a friend, but the thing is they are either in a different region, not online, wanting to do something different. I suppose I could grow an alt :).
Still, the origonal post wasn't a 'this is a major problem', 'I want super ship o' doom', it was merely a thought, something to discuss with other peeps.
I agree that there needs to be balancing in games but why is it always so severe?, it's either all offense or deffence and no middle ground. This pretty much goes on in every game (huzzah for general statements), which is quite sad really.

question... why does a barge have to get worse at mining just because it can tank better?
faction battleships, does not get worse at shooting, just because they have better stats than normal ships...
dreadnaughts do not suck at tanking and ganking, just because they have more shield/armor/structure....
what they all require is just a heavy load of skills...
why cannot the miners have one ship that requires a **** load of skills, that can mine like a big barge, but can tank for extended time?
are you all locked in your little world thinking only your preferred part of the game is the part that gets the upgrades? can you not look over your nose and see someone else get upgrades? for crying out, you guys get T3 battleships... miners/haulers do not get anything that lets them survive for long... Edited by: Plutoinum on 24/08/2006 09:19:11 Interesting thread, because I saw a bit of a TV broadcasting today about the history of merchant ship that ran onto a reef and sank in the 17th century. Think they said it was the best armed trading ship of that time that is known. They said, first they thought that the amounts of guns fits more to a non-civilian ship, but those got usually cannons of one size on board. This ship had a mix, like 25 small cannons and don't know how many mid-sized and large.
Well, it was surely to avoid being captured and that reminded me of piracy and industrial ships in EVE.
But if something like that should make sense, I think we'd need a sentry nerf and more close range piracy. But somehow I like the idea that pirates try to tackle such an industrial ship or freighter and it actually fights back for some time, maybe even manages to survive, until reinforcements arrive.
Such a scenario seems a lot more interesting to me than just sniping at poor guys or sentry tanking with big ships, while everything small gets annihilated.
