I know this must sound stupid. I'm probably just missing something basic here.
I've been doing lots of level 1 missions, and always see things like Pith Arrogator, Guerista blah blah, etc. However, I've looked at other fan websites that have NPC ship databases, and they are all based on *class* of ship.
So how do I know what class of ship I'm fighting? When I click on them for info, there really isn't any!! No ship info or anything. Did I miss a memo? :)

a small cross is either a frigate or destroyer
a medium one cruiser or battlecruiser
a large one is a battleship

The NPC ships are just ships in the game from different races. As the post above stated depending on the size of the RED +, it will give you an idea of what clas of ship you are about to attack.

Thast true. However the battlescrusers are lumped in with cruisers and the Destroyers are lumped in with frigs. After a while you will be able to tell from the pic. The destroyers and Bcs will look likt the respective race types.

Also, npc haulers in missions have, for some wierd reason, the same size cross as a bs.

iirc (somebody correct me if I'm wrong), "Show Info" on the ship will tell you if it's a frigate, cruiser, etc. It's in little bitty print in a color just slightly different from the background at the top of the info window. Beyond that, there is no info like there is on Player ships (with Attributes, etc).

Best way to tell is from the size of the red +, or by knowing the hull of the ship the design is based upon.
