Apparently the new guys think the vets do not understand how difficult this game is. This is a list of the nightmares the older players have faced. See if you can relate it to your current experience kinda explains why some of the whines get a bad response. This will hopefully be a bit of nostalgia trip for the older generation.
MONEY MAKING.
1. No Escrow. 2. No range of roids, non of this Condensed Veldspar rubbish. 3. No mining barges and fancy mining gear, just a cruiser and some CU Vapours. 4. Low ore prices non of this selling isogen for 125. 5. No roids, roids had to be manually spawned, Placid had nothing but pebbles for months. WeÆre talking entire regions with next to no minerals. 6. No missions at all to make money. 7. No BS rats to earn ISK. 8. No officer spawns and fancy loot. 9. No complexes or Cosmos systems. 10. No GTCÆs to buy your way into the game.
PVP
1. No tracking to worry about, if the guy had a bigger ship you were toast regardless of how fast you were going. 2. Dodgy grids, you could be shot by someone you couldnÆt see. Fleets could hide 2m the other side of a grid line. 3. Lag with 10 ships jumping into a battle. 4. Kestrels with cruise missiles in empire with no transports and a crap Concord. 5. 'Jump in points' your ship doesn't appear next to a gate cloaked. It appears at a random planet. Your ship appears long before you see it and youÆre usually in your pod by then. 6. Empire gates camped because Concord could be killed along with the sentries and not dying wasnÆt an exploit. 7. Less entries into 0.0. 8. Pirates used to buy there sec status back so you had no idea who was a pirate.
SKILLS & TOYS
1. No destroyer or BC class, you go from cruiser to BS. Huge gap in funds. 2. No implants. 3. No advanced skills. 4. No nice new bloodlines with flashy attributes. 5. No tech 2 gear. 6. No character sales.
ASSISTANCE
1. No tutorials at all. 2. No guides on the website.
Anyone got anything else to contribute to the noob nightmare EVE used to be?

Valan you forgot one important thing:
Ship bonuses. The T1 ship bonuses very different before than what they were now. In the "old Eve" there was only one bonus which applied to all ships in the race & category.
e.g: Currently Raven has a missile bonus whereas previously it had a Railgun optimal range bonus. Same for the scorpion, it had no ECM bonuses.
The only thing which differentiated ships within the same race and class was the slot layout.

a few to add from my memories
No POS's or POS wars or outposts or conquerable stations. About 3 jump in points to 0.0 that were camp city permanently. Not enough space in stations to rent offices. No implants. Mid space jump in points, permacamped and mined. No overview. Just a scanner list IIRC. No alliance ingame mechanics. 7 billion jumps to get from one side of space to the other. Biggest of all - no guides / excel sheets / fluffy hand holding to help out. Hence my creation of the probably the highest charisma character in eve probably.
On the plus side: NPC Haulers dropping millions of harvester mining drones. Possible +10 security status. Trade runs that worked and weren't permacamped. No mining barges / freighters or other carebear simplification devices.

When you couldnt cancel warp before you enter. Proved hellish when undocking and a bessy would muck up everyone undocking. When Yulai was the centre of all the markets. Jita/Rens combined (with 1/10 the players tho, and 1/100 the server stability) When Corporations had less security regarding theft and permissions. When amarr guns didnt require crystals (hence the addition of standard crystals) When armor reps used to show little drones flying around repairing the ship causing extreme lag.

Lets not forget missiles that did not avoid asteroids and had splash damage.
When the only limit a launcher had was its capacity (small luanchers fired fast, but did not hold much, big launchers fired slow, but could hold lots), so you could put lots of small weapons in a launcher or a few big ones (which is what got you the cruise kestrel).
Torpedoes were 10X there current mineral cost.
And although I never lost a pod without a top quality clone, the skill loss used to be a bit more risky ..... (I beleive).

So Basicly what your saying is that We all traded one set of problems and issoues caused by the the lack of planning/development of the then unfinished product, For a whole new set of even more complacated problems and issoues caused by poor planning/development of the new and improved content, and the large player population in general.
So it would not seem that the game is getting pretty close to reaching a critical mass. EvE will either get better or tear itself appart from the inside. No matter how great the serversare, there is only so much they can do for so long for so many people. the more content the game has the more the servers have to do. the more people on line at once means the server have to work that much harder to do what needs to be done. It's just a matter of time before something breaks. More often than not, the 'fixes' do nothing more than supress the symthoms of the problem and not the true cause of the problem.
I think this is a really great game and would hate to see it destroied because of the isk farming ebay sellers or the imuture nature of some of the players crying all the time about how they game is messed up because they can't do what they want to who they want how they want when they want. Boo Hoo. Life dosn't work that way.
Like I said. I really like this game. you could lose between 1/3 and 1/2 the population and I wouldn't about it one bit. i really with the Delvs could fix the bugs and problems they have on their hands now befor they go and add more content and make those problems worse. like everyone else, I have a nice long wish list of things I'd like to see added or changed in EvE but i'd be happy to keep what i have if it means that things will work like they should vs having a bunch of cool stuff and not being able to do anthing with it because of the unstable nature of the server or game enviroment.

for me, the good O 'l days was about a month and a half ago before the person letting me use their Cable internet moved. i haven't been able to play since. i was lucky enough to have another friend let me long is long enought to bump a skill. i still lost about 2 weeks train time though. :o( i've been fighting with the morons at the cable compony ever since to get cable hooked up here. I hate having to use my old computer on dial up just so I can check mail or read the Forums.
Ok. I'm done whineing now.
*(Waaaaah!)*
OK. Now I'm done. Really.
