Quite a lot of threads these days seem to be adding 'Go play WoW' or 'If you cant handle EvE, go to WoW' or any number of combinations of sentences including the words 'go', 'play' and 'WoW'.
Now after seeing this for the 100'th or so time I actually took the advice of the 'Go Play WoW' posters and I really think its a sweet game. Very fun, enjoyable and cool.
EvE is also very fun, enjoyable and cool. So I'm wondering what exactly it is that makes WoW so inferior to EvE?
From what I can see they are very similiar in regards to grinding. Im currently a warrior in WoW, with about a days worth of farming gold to equip. In EvE I can get the isk for a battleship, Recon, HAC in a day, currently the most advanced ships I can fly.
If I get killed with a clone I dont lose anything except 30 min - 3 hours of farming isk. If I get killed in WoW by a PK I dont lose anything except 30 minutes of running around. The risks are very similiar.
In a comparison I would say they are very similiar and I wish the people who obviously never played WoW or cant think up a better insult would think up someone geniunely catchy, perhaps, 'go play cluedo' or 'go play badmington'?.
Both games rock, but in very different ways, since ones a space game and ones a fantasy game, the comparison here on these forums is assinine.

World of Warcraft sucks because its a grind.
Leveling is a grind of killing enemies over and over.
Questing is a grind of doing boring, repetitive "kill me 10 trogdolyte" quests.
Raiding is a grind of doing 50 raids until you get enough DKP to get some uber rare loot item... that will help you raid better.
PvP is a grind to get as much honor as possible to get a high ranking and "warlord" armor/items.
Heck, its all a grind, and with ZERO redeeming qualities at all.
I've played it until level 50-something and I have a friend who is level 60 and is grinding for Warlord armor (and getting 500k honor a week by playing 6-10 hours of Battlegrounds a day, over and over and over, grinding it: even he thinks its boring as hell). I don't understand how anyone can find it fun to play WoW at all.
People say "Go back to WoW" because World of Warcraft coddles you all the way through, preventing anything bad from happening to you. Its an insult to people who whine about how EVE is too harsh, and its true: if you don't like EVE's harshness, it isn't the game for you.
Heck I don't even understand why people claim that WoW is the "best fantasy MMO out there": its really really boring even for a fantasy MMORPG.

First ofall, you don't choose anything in WoW, you choose your race and class and that's it! You don't pick your own destiny, you don't get to push the balance by doing things in-game, All you do is grind grind grind, and you have to look at the endless amount of Nightelf characters running around (even in Horde territory).
Btw the PvP is the worst pile of [censored] i've ever had the pain to experience.

You make it sound like as soon as you die in eve, you end up in another ship, setup and ready to roll if you have the ISK.
Anyone (particularly outlaws) will tell you that isn't true.

I say this a billion times a day, so heres another go.
WoW has no direct player interaction, the game is linear in every way an MMORPG Should not be.
Its pure grind, level 1 to level 60, and then you grind to get items from high level instances, or you "Grind PvP".
WoW is the only game I have ever played where you can actually "Grind PvP". You die, respawn, run into the enemies, kill a few, die again, repeat 250 times.
Guild's are only their for chat channels and a name above your head.
The game has almost no depth beyond a few quest encounters.
Player's have absolutely NO control over the world, what happens in it, other then the smacktalk. No guild halls, no player controlled land, nothing. ----------------------------------------

And the very first reply to this thread, amply proves your point. People think WoW is rubbish because THEY don't like it. How they ever got the idea that their opinion is the only one that matters on the entire planet is beyond me. In fact, given that WoW has subscribers in the millions and we have barely 125,000, the only objective conclusion is that EVE sucks. ________________________________________________

I just spent 3 weeks, every spare moment of my time, grinding my way up so I can afford a dreadnought and its fittings. It'll probably be destroyed since I plan to take it to 0.0 and kill people and I will have to do it all over again.
Isnt that a grind too?

But in EVE, you have a choice. You can grind, or you can choose not to grind.
In WoW, there is nothing that isn't a grind: you have no choice.

No, thats stupidity. The fact of the matter is that if you use your dreadnaught correctly you could easily remake the cash you spent on it.
Ransom a POS.
And trying to "PvP" in a dreadnaught is not something you should try. They are mobile siege tools.
Edit: To even further my point, I *Never* Grind in EvE. I make all my money from purely pvp. Not even gate camping, just plain pvp. ----------------------------------------

Exactly. The only possible way to judge quality is how popular they are. If people like them, they're good. ________________________________________________

This depends how you judge quality. Does marketting affect quality?

WoW was good before battlegrounds. I used to have great fun killing people out in the real world with my rogue and mage.
But... then they had to kill it and introduce the grind there too, so I left. :p

Exactly my point: it doesn't.
Just because everyone knows about something doesn't make it good.
Just because something has had tens of millions spent marketing it to everyone in the world doesn't mean its better than something that hasn't.

Yer I have to agree ... EvE lets you make you're own destiny and push yourself to the limits !
WoW In my eyes is for un-educated people who can't play games like EvE online which requires logic and knowledge !
WoW is just like a mcdonalds toy you get which all it does it make a sound over and over again ... yer basically repetative and boring

This is quite true.
World of Warcraft did not originally have PvP be a grind. In the "good old days" one could do all sorts of stuff like invade an enemy town, kill their NPCs, and gank people all over.
Nowadays, you're not allowed to: people PvP in Battlegrounds instead, which has converted all PvP to a grind.

There is NO objective measure of the quality of entertainment, except how many people like it. Anyone claiming otherwise can only think that their opinion is more important than anyone else's. As witnessed above ________________________________________________

"How many people like it" is not a measure of the quality of entertainment: it is a measure of how many people have been shown that entertainment.

They call it World PVP, but its just the name on the new battleground. Its about collecting dust so your side gets advantages... its more of the same, basicly.

WoW has its strengths and weaknesses. It is definetely fun for a while and has much fewer technical issues that hamper gameplay (yes, really). Combat is more tactical than you'd expect.
The downside is, that in order to get good equipment, you have to do a lot of tedious grinding of the same instance over and over again until you get your "bind on pick-up" set items, where in EVE you have many different means of acquiring ISK and you can just buy all the good stuff (even the rare items from inaccessible complexes end up on the market sooner or later and everyone can buy them).
While WoW's world is definetely more varied, it is also more linear (you don't go to the low-level areas/quests anymore when you're L60) and it does deserve the nickname "world of grindcraft" and that's what put me off in the end. It just sucks to have to do weekly Molten Core runs for months just to get your tier-1 set and then the same thing again for BWL etc..

So basically it's a lie. Nothing to do with good PvP in the actual world
