So I logged in to Eve this morning and was greeted with the following message: The EVE cluster has reached it's maximum user limit. Please try logging in again later. You are #3 in line for logon.
Ok, takes a few minutes and I get in. Then I get: Your character is located within (*****), which has reached maximum capacity. You are #1 in queue for entrance. Please try again in a moment.
I finally get in to the game and the system that has "reached maximum capacity" has 42 people in it.
Great job CCP. Explain to me again how this seemless non-shard server infrastructure works...

What time was "this morning?" The forum doesn't tell me where you come from.
The only times I've seen those messages are when trying to log in very shortly after downtime. Once the server has recovered from 20,000 people all trying to log in at once, it usually runs just fine. ________________________________________________

Major lag by Germinate atm.
Total number of people within the 8 jumps.... 40.
System with 2 people has a queue... along with 5-10 second module lag.

The purpose of the login queue is so that when the server starts up, it doesn't get overloaded by people trying to log in. Its not for normal usage, just when it starts up.
The gate queue, however, is stupid and should be removed ASAP.

A gate queue would be acceptable (maybe) if your ship cloaked and went invulnerable as it JOINS the queue - not if you have to sit there for X minutes in full view and range of all your enemies, while you wait for permission to jump. ________________________________________________

"Jotenen Traffic control: You are #2 in queue for jump-in"
I'm sure there are 400+ players in Jotenen........
Edit: made it in - four players in Jotenen, including me. Somethin wrong

The queue kicks in if the node load is above 95%. A node handles x amount of systems. So there is nothing strange about logging in and finding just 1 people in local. You dont know what other systems are sharing the same node.
Think of a node as a computer.

qft... If a system has over 600 people or the node is at 95% or above. Then there will be a queue.

Then CCP needs to spend money on hardware, if this is the case.

Hmm. Looks like the server still suffers from Sunday Evening Disease.
I wonder how long - and how much money it'll involve - for CCP to bite the bullet and decide they need a completely new server design to allow for spontaneous node reinforcement. ________________________________________________

Where do you see that they are going to disable queues? The only thing I saw was a forum mod implying that gate queues should have been listed in the patch notes.

Ive read kieron say that the queues are supposed to be turned off. Unless I misunderstood his cryptic post. :)

Then some one needs to get off their asses and adjust the threshold that these queues activate. I am assuming professional programmers would allow for such a thing...

Sure it works fine for someone who does nothing but mine or run missions. For people who are actually moving around or, omgosh, pvping in 0.0 it's one of the worst things that's ever happened to EVE.

Well, Geminate is right next to the Forge.. So, could be on the same Node to be honest..Hence the lag.. But ye, being in a queue to jump in the next system for 12 minutes and finding out that the next system is EMPTY, ye thats f***ing annoying if you ask me..Especially if its a 0.0 system..What would happen if you were running away from a huge blob? Or even chasing someone and when he finally reaches the gate, he finds out he cant jump out and POOF... He's dead meat.. that sucks..whether you are the ''killer'' or the victim..
We all know of the Lag-Monster that lives in the Forge..
Looks like that all CCP managed to achieve the last 1.5 years after that major patch with the new low sec. systems and the moving around of agents etc, was to just move the Lag-Monster from Yulai to Jita..WAY TO GO !!! w00t w00t !!
Well, next time dont move ALL offices/agents etc from ONE system to another..Just try to spread them around ;) Right? So this system that had 711 people inside it earlier, wont be that laggy..Why 711 people in Jita 30 mins ago, and like 20 in new Caldari/Haatamo, etc systems that are next to Jita? Pff..All this lag makes the game intolerable..
But wait..There IS NO lag according to the logs..EvE has no lag mates.. We all have crappy PC's and net connections..Didnt you get the memo? All 30k of us need new computers and 500mill mbit net connections :D
/me grabs his AWP and Desert Eagle. Shooty-shooty anyone? :) Dont forget the Kevlar ;)

Well my personal bit of fun with the log in queue is this...
On last stage of lev 4 mission Vengence I was clearing the sentry guns and everything had aggrod me. Then eve crashed....
In the past this has happened a couple of times before, the first time I lost my ship. It seems that sometimes when you crash eve doesnt realise and you dont auto warp out, you just sit there being shot at.
Logging back in quickly, makes eve realise you arent logged in and warps your ship same as if you lost connection.
I quickly restart eve to try and save my ship as I had left my shield booster going when I crashed, and I should have been ok.
But 'hmmm' what is this new 'feature'? You are in queue position 8 to log in...... 5 mins later I get to log in to find myself in a capsule and the realisation that my raven was uninsured.
So in my opinion, log in queues are bad mmmmmk
