ONE MAN CREW - solo PVP by many
The video includes 15 fights that have been selected by our panel of judges. The fights are carefully picked to include a wide spectrum of solo PVP that both motivate newbies and impress veterans. However, frigate and destroyer fights were excluded. The total length is 66 minutes.
Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iM5Zblp9UHc
Vimeo: (comming soon) EVE-files: (Issues with evefiles. Updates will follow) Mediafire: (comming soon)
Original forum post (with rules and additional info) List of winners
To those of you who donGÇÖt know about the project. It is a solo PVP contest run by Aldap (The char has been sold and is now under new hands) and I. The concept is simple: The contestants recorded their solo fights and submitted the best one(s). A panel of judges then picked the 15 best which have been selected for this video and win prizes.
Aldap was a well-known solo PVPer who had inspired many. However he had to quit EVE and decided to raise money for the project by selling his char. He has done many great things for the EVE solo PVP community and without him this project would not have been a thing.
A huge thank you to our sponsors evebet and Garmon who allowed us to reward our winners with great prizes.
Also thanks to the additional contributors who bumped those rewards even higher. Starfleetcommander, DHB Wildcat, Leeloo Killik, Dukan Dolat, Hanshiro Arashi, Buhhdust Princess, ZaGÇÖafiel, Deen Wispa, and Liam Inkuras
A huge thanks to our judges who carefully selected the best of the best. Daneel Trevize, Buhhdust Princess , Guados, DHB_Wildcat, Clahim, are34, rekina and Garmon
A huge thank you to Daneel Trevize, big miker, iter Sektoor and El Geo who spent countless of hours helping me make this video.
And finally thanks to Aldap who made this possible.

Just a quick summary of prizes:
Quote:
Every pilot, whose fights were featured in the video, received 1.5 bil ISK + PLEX.
The 4 pilots, who were chosen for the special awards (see below), received 3 bil ISK + PLEX + Pirate Battleship.
1) The "Kickass Moves" award. For example: picking up drones on field after yours are destroyed. Offlining mods during fight to win on that last %s, etc...
2) The "Creative Setup" award. Original fit. Out of the box thinking behind the ship/situation.
3) The "Balls Deep" award. Includes things such as: fighting heavily outnumbered. Fighting outclassed ship-wise. ECM-wise, or just generally being brave as hell against the odds.
4) The "Motivational for New Pilots" award. Fight that gives hope, like winning with a simple ship that a new pilot would see and smile "I could do that"
And the pilot, who was chosen for the best unlinked solo fight of the video, will receive 10 bil ISK.
The pilot who made best use of links would receive the Links of Destiny award granting 2 Bil ISK + HG (Slave or Crystal) implant set.
DHB_Wildcat (one of the judges) decided to donate a pirate Battleship for any pilot that made it into the video with any Battleship hull. Thanks Wildcat :-)
Additional prizes were handed out. Check the thread with the winner announcement for details.

Dunno if the others who voted on these fights would like to share why they voted the way they did, but I thought it would be nice to see how the judges were processing the fights and why they picked the ones they did. So I guess I'll go first
the awards -
Motivational for newbies..... It was initailly awarded to TheUnholyTerror, that is until I personally delayed the project a few days (for this I am sorry) but I could not let Jamir's fight go. To me, fighting way off the gate in a bubble against a large number of ships is ballsy! And he killed a ton of them before dieing in glory!
Now thats not to take away from terror's fight. Fighting a t3 in a t1 is ballsy as hell, however when I dug a little deeper and saw the loki was a cloaky prober only capable of about 160 dps, I had to fight more for jamir. I hope the other judges tell you why they picked terrors, because they had some great points I dont remember.
Kickass moves - came down to a vargur mjd'ing to get another kill, or pytorian's awesome manual piloting. For me it was a no brainer..... piloting so you can not only hit, but kill frigs with BS sized guns was awesome to watch!
Creative Setup - When I saw the dreadnaught doing what it was doing, I literally said this..... "I didn't know you could ******* do that! I have to train Cap skills now!?" I had been playing this game a long time now, if you can make me say that, you did something ******* great!
Balls deep - Another award I fought tooth and nail for, several of us judges were at each others throat for this one. I personally chose the brave ferox..... I did this because, ITS IN A BELT vs 4 THORAX ALL WITH ECM DRONES! (**** ecm drones) nuff said
Grand Prize and links of destiny - I personally voted for big miker's nano navy mega for grand prize, even though it didnt fit the rules. I was unable to fight for this like I was the other two. So like a pouty 2 year old, I said **** it and left it as my vote for the grand prize even though it wouldnt count. Sorry to the winner of the grand prize but in my eyes, that fight was the best we had. So naturally it was a major landslide for the links of destiny award.
So thats how and why I voted the way I voted. Hope it gives some insight, and I really hope the other judges tell how and why they voted the way they did too, so you can all see the various backrounds of our piloting judges and how cool it was to see how everyone saw each fight differently.
Grats to the winners! and thank ******* god we have a non ***** frig vid to watch! |

Editing is very nice, slick and simple. The music matches with the fights and it has a nice high-low-high pacing throughout. Some great fights, some pretty blah, a couple of memorable ones with brilliant endings.

I just wanna give a huge TY all of the OMC people for holding this event, and an extra shoutout to Miz for putting all of the effort in making this. I know it wasn't easy for him, and he took a lot of flack throughout.
Mad props for sticking to it and seeing it to completion - a lesser man might've quit in the face of all the adversity.
Kickass video from what I've seen of it so far tho (about halfway through, just to my fight).
As the winner of the Creative Setup Award with my Dunk Phoenix, I also want to congratulate all the other winners as well for their awesome fights. This video was ALMOST as fun to watch as it was to make for all of us I'm sure! ;)
Since there might be a few folks left who don't know - the OMC clip of my Phoenix was actually MY first fight with it. It was also the FIRST EVER solo Phoenix fight, AND the first solo dread to grace TQ in well over half a decade. It was not, however my ONLY Phoenix fight...
You can see lots more Phoenix clips mixed with various subcap pvp of mine in my last video: Sui Generis (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkbDDcxw-MA)
As another side note - I am no longer in Disavowed due to the direction that other Leadership took it.
Myself and several friends have formed a new corp - Everlasting Vendetta. and we ARE looking for solid pvp oriented folks if anyone out there is looking for a new group. Don't be intimidated by my (admittedly, occasionally) slightly elitist attitude - if you're willing to learn, we're willing to give you a shot. ;)
If you're interested, or if you just want to drop by and chat with me/ask me for fitting advice I'm always in my public channel "Oatmeal"! |

Great fights.
Even I am not proud to be part of the vid as a receiving pilot :D You guys only can imagine the rage on our comms, when we lost 4 more ceppies to the vexor after myself even I yelled at the lads "he got scram and web, dont go close". They did.
Many people are complaining the quality of the fights. I am not. I think that one reason people are complaining is the very long wait that has buildt the anticipation so high, that its merely impossible to fullfill anymore.
I personally enjoyed the fights, I can see why they were picked there for the most and I enjoyed the editing. GJ erryone o7o7o7 |

I think also people are comparing this to the entirety of all frapsed fights ever in eve, of which you have only heard of the best. The comp was over a few months and you had to get the fights during that time. I tried it and mostly failed.
Getting good fights is hard. Really hard. Really really really hard. Only people who have not tried think its easy.
If you think its so easy, show us the money. And by money i mean your own vids of these amazing fights that are apparently easy to get.
If not, then please have a nice hot cup of Shut The **** Up.

Theronth Valarax wrote:I'm rather dissapointed with average quality of fights in this one. Only a couple from fiveteen presented top notch piloting, namely big miker and Pytorion of course.
Thorax winning newbie award is a little less impressive once you realize that Loki had Nullifier and Covert Ops subsystems.
Ferox while ballsy warping into 4 Thoraxes somehow managed to burn out almost every single med slot which is quite a mistake.
Grand Prize was also massively underwhelming for what should have been the best of the fights. A frigate, Ishtar who got eaten up by gate guns and a Stabber well off his gang. I was really suprized when the clip ended with only those on kill counter.
Vargur was meh. Three-way kinda made it less exciting to watch when they stopped paying attention to the Marauder.
I'm also very dissapointed by the editing. While audio being out of sync a few times is a minor slip, there were at least a few rendering artifacts left in the movie with frames dropping or freezing up. While I understand those blue-ish holographs took time to render, I'm still puzzled why video took so long to edit. I mean, numerous times here on forums have we been told that every fight has different UI and requires special approach, but pilot name and rotating ship were always in the same place on the screen. Only the soundwaves were moving a little bit in the same general area. Intro wasn't anything mindblowing either. Did you seriously put half a year into it and that's the best achieveable result?
On the other hand it's still worth watching for at least a few fights in it. Earlier mentioned Naga and Navy Mega were awesome. Liked God's Apples Eagle, kinda reminded me of Garmonation except I think this fight was better than Garmons. Lord's Servant doesn't fail to deliver with Dunk Phoenix and Skyflyer getting super lucky finding incompetent campers and moonwalking from them is also quite enjoyable.
The Thorax fight isn't about how to fit your loki. The loki pilot was terrible and hit approach as well, when he should have pulled range (he did that later though). The Thorax fight is about showing people to go for it even when they appear to be heavily outclassed. There is still a chance you outplay the opponent which is the case here. And TheUnholyTerror had also managed to slingshot a dramriel. So the fight shows us that simple manouvers and tricks can get you a far way even when you fly a simple t1 cruiser. Hence being motivational for newbies.
The Ferox is taking massive damage and even though XLASB can tank alot they require great management, especially with a low buffer, so you don't end up wasting charges. Then he had other stuff to deal with like ECM drones and such. If you take a close look you will notice that the playback speed isn't that high. The fight it self was fast and brutal so **** does happen. But still, the most important thing is that even though it burned out and crippled his ship he still kept on fighting with a cool head instead of panicing.
The grand prize has been a headache for me, because it is really hard to present the important aspects about it. He fight is all about the setup of the fight and baiting the enemies into attacking you while they are in a weak position. And remember that Aldap's success relies a lot on tricking people into taking gateguns in a situation where they think it is an easy kill. And how often do you see a t1 cruiser kill a hac, a t1 cruiser and a faction frig while other ships are still on grid?
The middle part of the vargur fight was indeed mehh, but the MJD kill was still an excellent manouvre and overall the fight shows some good piloting. Also don't forget that the Vargur and Kronos was picked over your vargur fight because we simply considered them better. So be careful when bashing it.
Regarding the editing. I challenge you to go that much into details that I have done. It is really hard to sync stuff up that well. It takes much work and is one of the things that took most time. Some of the rendering artifacts were because the input footage was bad. We had to deal with different resolutions with different quality so it's hard to make it look great in 1080p when you also have to apply much editing to present the fight well. The intro was cut down on because I didn't want to delay any further. I don't remember any of your intros to be noticeable aside from the comedy value of the police video.

GJ erryone o7o7o7
Haha yeah. I was wondering how you would react to that. Would love to have heard the comms. But I think that is one of the great things about the video. Even people who are experienced with smallgang pvp and should know better can get too eager when it is just a single t1 cruiser.
And yes, the main issue I had with the long wait was that it could lead to people over anticipating it.

Phoenix part is also entertaining. Rest are just waste of time...
As BP and Wildcat pointed out. Did you even watch the fight? It has so much more than just 4 frigs trying to kill a myrm. The fight is a prime example of how much clear thinking and great execution can do. Falcons are the bane of solo pvpers yet Syss7 still manages to deal with a freaking Widow. When he is permajammed he deagress, jumps out and back in and sends the drones on the widow which is forced to jump out. Great thinking in the heat of the battle and then he abandons the ogres to get warriors out to kill the frig. If you had paid attention you would have noticed that they do go for his drones, but he does some great drone management. And then later when more stuff arrives he brawls down a Harb and then deagress and gets out when the widow returns, which shows that he has a great situational awareness and knows what his ship can handle.

Ah finally, here it is, the final chapter of this wonderfull contest.
Good job Miz, you really did something remarquable here, not only talking about the video itself but about the whole event. First by inspiring 100-ish pilots to submit an entry to the contest but also probably many other who tried to undock and fight alone. And now with this great video about the adventure of soloing and its diverse form. Don't listen to people who are depreciating quality of fights and video. You did great job and pilots participating as well.
Premium quality content from idea to competition and video releasing! Community inspiring award to Miz. Was a pleasure to help the modest amount i was able to.

Yeah you got me on that Thorax one. I haven't considered it was a fight 'by newbie for newbies' so I'll have to agree on this one.
Mizhir wrote: But still, the most important thing is that even though it burned out and crippled his ship (Ferox) he still kept on fighting with a cool head instead of panicing.
I find that argument funny. If you're scrambled, webbed and can't even use half of your modules because you've burned them out by needlessly overheating afterburner when your target is orbiting you at ~800m, when you could've used that heat to get more out of asb charges, how is it you're 'cool headed' staying on field when you have no other choice. Well, unless he was triple stabbed and we just don't see it on the video. I'm sure you had more 'balls deep' clip sent your way and even if you didn't that brave Vexor or even Hyperion jumping back into oblivion are more worthy of the prize.
Quote:The grand prize has been a headache for me, because it is really hard to present the important aspects about it. Yeah now that you've said it yourself I can say that this clip indeed reeks of Aldap. I was never a fan of his videos, mainly because of his setups having a narrow engagement profile and heavily relying on gate guns to kill his opponents. Propably I shouldn't be suprised then that contest with his name on it would have that engagement as the 'best fight'. I honestly think that the Myrmidon should have taken that, as you've mentioned in a reply to Cyraon wars he did use the gate in a nice way and did good Drone Juggling. That's imho the best fight of all unlinked ones in this video.
Quote:The middle part of the vargur fight was indeed mehh, but the MJD kill was still an excellent manouvre and overall the fight shows some good piloting. Also don't forget that the Vargur and Kronos was picked over your vargur fight because we simply considered them better. So be careful when bashing it. I'm going to burst your bubble by saing that I'm not bashing this out of spite, as I wouldn't use the fight I've submitted myself. It's been rushed and I did too many mistakes to even compete with Skyflyer. I consider myself lucky it got included in Honorable Mentions. I've just stated that it is kinda underwhelming, as he never even broke a sweat and MJD is nothing out of the box years after being added to the game.
Quote:Regarding the editing. While different source material might indeed be hard to edit so that it all fits together, after say seven months of development, I for one, expected that I'm gonna get blown away by the visuals. When I saw static Mega, Vexor and Stabber threated with chroma key instead of 'WOAH' I was like 'eh?' Gods Coldblood, Don Peyote in Nanofiber Internal Structure or even Mr Hyde and Starfleetcommander have way better effects. I will even say that this is a downgrade to your RR Vexors and I'm sure those people and those videos didn't take months to edit. As far as my videos go, I've been limited to Sony Vegas only and my video making process closes in six hours maximum. It took me six hours to do Perfect Insanity, mainly because I had to spend like an hour and a half watching tutorials for After Effects and getting to know the program and then render some simple intro and soundwaves.
I hope this won't turn into another NightmareX-like thread

It's hard for me to argue on the behalf of the Vargur fight as it wasn't among my choices. So you gotta ask the judges who favoured it.

The visuals were actually only a small part of the time spent on the project. Most of it went to presenting the fight with a shifting playback speed so most details would be preserved without making it too long.
The intro was originally outsourced to El Geo who made it based on the logo that was designed by Rixx Javix. However El Geo had to stop working on it due to real life issues so I picked up the scraps. But didn't use much time on it. In retrospective this was probably a very impractical process of making it. Should have incorporated the logo design in the intro design instead of outsourcing to different people. So the end result wasn't what I had expected. If El Geo have had the time for it, it would probably have been something much cooler. Just look at his taranis video he released.
However the difference between this and the videos you mentioned is that this was made from scratch. Many of the intro designs used in EVE videos are either templates being used or something done by professionals.

just fyi i put the stabber fight from kinborough as a suggestion for this fight. Regardless of how he kills the hostiles, he plays really smart. He is a quality pvper and does a fantastic job of setting up the fight. This is what solo is about, using ur head to beat multiple hostiles. He deserves the award for the tactics and engagement prowess alone and thats why he won. |

While due to the wait, it is obviously extremely near impossible to live up to expectations so I shall skip that bit :P Some of the clips I had already seen through other videos and thus it was also a little less exciting for me.
After having watched it multiple times, and read the comments here, I think some of the fights could have needed better representation in order to convey their importance of various parts, some was not very obvious on first watch. (Don't ask me how, it has always been one of my own issues when making my own videos).
Btw, am curious, was the majority of clips submitted gallente ships flown?
Skyflyer, that kronos clip was impressive (even if you forgot to use the nos).

While I'm humbled you think my eagle fight was better than garmon's, it does go to show the lack of quality of fights. There weren't any ~bigplays~ and my tank wasn't really stressed at all either so if that's one of the best it's pretty sad what to think of the others. It annoys me that my best solo fight ever (the last fight of Elite Bandicam PvP 3) happened right after the deadline ((((.
Overall I think the video was decent. The pacing is really, really slow. I understand you were trying to match the speed with the tempo of the music, but it made some fights that could have easily been at 2.5x speed drag on forever and ever. If you or someone else wants to ever do a project like this again, remember: the fun part is getting people to go out an get the fights. If you put less stress on getting all the editing and whatever right, then you could make this a a bi- or tri-annual event where all of eve gets to submit their best solo fight they have during a certain period of a couple months, then you and some other people judge the fights, and after a weekend editing the whole thing it's out. Less stress, less overhype, more community involvement. A win-win imo.

I don't have a count on the full amount of gallente ships, but they make up 5 out of the 8 most common ships.
Gallente ships are very strong solo brawlers thus being very popular for this purpose.

It is intentional that the speed wasn't that high. Many newer players often comment on pvp videos that it is too fast for them to follow the details. So we have tried to find the balance point.

Bunch of good fights here and there (Eagle/Mega Navy/Phoenix especially). But about 50% takes place in nullsec gate camp, known as a gathering of the best players of this game, and some show some massive derp ending well just because opponent didn't learn how to use orbit (so many static targets) or their warp disruptor...or that Kronos warping to the sun AND not using his NOS >.>
I still believe that frigates have their place in such a contest, and they are enjoyable in the fact that their are cheap, effective and die fast making things dynamic, especially in a video. It would also motivate new players in trying solo. Cause as much as I love the spirit behing these projects (props all involved btw), to actually do any of this, it will take you months if not years (except maybe for the T1 cruiser and BC cases), since basic skills matter a lot in solo PVP. And it requires decent piloting when you do solo frigate without links against multiple targets since any mistake means you're basically dead. Please consider it if there is more of those videos to be made in the future, cause you would for sure get great footage :)
Not mentioning the links cause this is endless debate #NeverForgetKateMosh o7 |

There is no better tribute to aldap then the stabber fight where gateguns do all the job I think speed of the video should be situational, sometimes you want it slowed down for dramatic effect and other times you want it super speedy to get to the point but I hate it when a video is zooming by so fast that I can barely keep up with what`s going on!
I thought this was a great video by the way, every fight was pretty damn good if not great and the editing was good music was good, lots of variety in the types of fights as well, you got a solo pheonix a nano Navy Megathron, some great T1 cruiser footage and some great brawling.
The only thing that was missing was a good frigate fight, would have been nice to see a frigate destroying everything.

The fact that there are so many frig videos just means you would be more likely to get some epic footage.

Yeah anyone complaining about quality of fights I don't even know what to say.
I thought all the fights were really good and most were actually great.

Yeah unfortunately thats what you get with a mostly euro group making the video...... Techno everywhere 8( |

I would have loved to use a bit more metal for it, but there are 2 main problems.
First of all, I find it hard to make it match the fights. The guitar solo should be synced up with the best part of the fight, otherwise it just feels like a mismatch.
And then there are the copyright issues. It is really hard to find some good metal tracks that aren't heavily influenced by copyrights. I thought I had avoided it, but the Manowar track has caused the video to be blocked in Germany, Switzerland and other countries.

Pretty much any music you choose will have copyright issues in Germany. Must be some old copyright laws or something. |

I just noticed there was not a single Amarrian solo ship in this video.
This saddens me :(

Finally had a chance to sit down and watch this - basically I thought you did a great job with the material given, that is to say I expected perhaps something more from the fights that were presented. There was a couple/few genuinely good, and unique fights there but overall they were pretty.... ummm... ho hum? Still hats off to you for making it a fun watch anyway. |

Which fights do you think were ho hum? Because there was a lot of people who put a significant amount of time into this, trying to get the best fight's possible, I won't point fingers at the specifics (especially when I know first hand how hard it is to find those fights that you walk away very proud of.) I guess it just takes a fair bit to impress me with eve videos nowadays, probably because watching a fight and being in it are so vastly different. Then again, I could just be an ol' bitter vet who's just tough to please. :P |

This.
Also makes me very tempted to leave my eve vid hiatus and make one again with amarr ships, and not with nomens that seems the only one people fly. (Did get a pretty awesome duo fight when testing a new fit)

This gives me hope in returning to EvE. Though I know behind all these great kills are also a great amount of painful losses. |
