Dev blog: http://community.eveonline.com/news/dev-blogs/quick-give-me-manual-control/
They are adding WASD keys for manual flight correction because new EVE people get confused when double clicking in space. Totally optional for bittervets, of course.
Will strafing allow for new content?
Can we out-Keanu missiles fired at ships?
Will this result in new fleet dance flash mob content?
Is this the end of EVE: Valkyrie?
Will we finally be able to post on the forums using a smartphone without having a nervous breakdown?
Is EVE dying?

First of all, Lister, I like your jacket. Can I have it?
The WASD option is optional and not non-optional at all. Does that make you feel better?
And soon as you flick the option to the "on" position, EVE will be dying.

Jade Blackwind wrote:The problem with the point and click in space system were, first, that this wasn't really point and click; it was (probably because of 1 Hz server ticks) unresponsive enough to turn it into point-click-click-click-*start acceleration*-*expletive*-*pop* . Because of the lack of proper fixed camera, it was also imprecise. Controlling direction and range during a PvP engagement with that system of manual flying while being distracted by a ton of other factors, like module cycles and overview, is an art in itself (an art which a casual player like me CBA to master). WASD+fixed camera actually makes flying an interceptor a ton of fun, even more so that it is now, so, I say welcome to our joystick wielding overlords.
Now that I think about it, this will be a godsend for instaundock bookmark creation.

The double click command always reminds me of my cat dozing off.
Poke.
Opens one eye.
Hey, what, who where?
Oh ok. Move out of the way.

That plus an ability to keep shooting with "forward locked' turrets and bays when jammed would be epic. I have heard it over 1000 times, the lamentation of "Well I could not move, could not target, nothing. Then I died. This game sucks".
Well if CCP implements that then we must have Lieutenant Commander Worf style "ramming speed" ship functionality.

That is alright. We Southpaws are all possessed by evil spirits and expected to have short life expectancy anyway.
Might as well screw us on the keyboard and mouse ergonomics thing.

With original soundbites from Hunt for Red October!
In this case, we could have the slight audio distortion they had in the movie to spot the sneaky Russian sub, except for AFK cloakers! |

So I was thinking more about this. I know, I know. This Jvpiter fellow, does he ever actually think?
I imagine being able to go side to side without needing to flip your camera is a nice way to very quickly alter your traversal. As someone mentioned before, it would be interesting to see how much it affects Frigates in combat.
After all it's a pretty sound strategy that's been tested and proven in Zelda and Golden Axe so there's no reason it won't work here.
My brothers had to no e-honor at all in these games. It was all strafe to win.

This feature was likely a response to that Chris Rogers fellow and his perpetual vaporware.
