You say its entirely cosmetic, but once humans get their hands on things who knows. |

Xanato Kaso wrote:I think this is a good idea but is completely cosmetic in a sense that It won't affect actual gameplay. Given how our weapons automatically target and fire being able to maneuver the ship by hand will ultimately affect nothing, though it might allow people to avoid collideable objects a bit easier. I think it is a great addition to the game still. 0.o err...manual flying makes a massive difference, watch this

These and manual flying
I would also suggest that you could make the physics model little more realistic instead of this submarine simulation. |

keeping a dual system: maintaining the current system, while adding the WASD system (and by extension joystick) is necessary with Elite Dangerous launch announced for Dec. 2014
This is very viable for small ships but strategic fleet engagements would suffer from being forced into WASD
Over all this is a good thing and will re-attract former and new players to try EVE.
+1
You forget he main reason why this is problematic in eve. wasd and even more.. by a far ammount joysticks, create a MUCH larger ammounht of input commands arriving at the eve server. That might becomeproblematic in crowded nodes.
It has chance of creating a new server bottleneck. So probably you will not get somethign so responsive as traditional video game controls, but somethign with a update only once per second scheme.

I guess one place I could see it's usefulness is on Mission gates to prevent "Structure Humping" if the WSAD is active to override direction during gate warp. |

I have to second this. At the the very least add an option to invert the y-axis. |

At best theyre a solution for frigates, and hardly for anything larger than that. You just dont command a battleship from a cockpit, thats absurd. Rift features are similar to RMB camera view so it shouldn't be a problem. |

You already have a line connecting your ship and the ship you are targeting. That works quite nicely. Only major thing missing is 3rd person "follow" camera.

Joystick support please. The major joystick manufacturers would be more than happy to help with drivers given the huge Eve user base. You already have x and y axes mapped in Rhea, and you know *every* capsuleer would have to have one as it would be a monumental benefit for any PvPer!
Ship agility would become a major factor in combat literally overnight for any encounters at sub-light speeds and possibly even at warp.. You could tie skills like Evasive Maneuvering to joystick responsiveness settings, etc, etc, Many possibilities for a joystick add-on!
